* OldShame: Downplayed with "If We Were Gay". Danny said if he had written it now, he wouldn't have relied so much on gay stereotypes. Played straight with the original unreleased lyrics to the song which both Brian and Danny admit were not cool.

* FanNickname: The fans took to jokingly calling Danny's grandmother Granny Sexbang. When Danny told her this, [[CoolOldLady she apparently loved it]].

** Ross O'Donovan, a longtime friend of Creator/{{Egoraptor}}, was one of NSP's earliest fans from before their popularity exploded, and was even the one who introduced Arin to their music, which in turn paved the way for Arin and Danny meeting and collaborating for many projects. In addition to getting to work with Danny and Brian after they all became part of the Grumpverse, Ross has since been featured in numerous NSP music videos over the years.

* PromotedFanboy: Creator/FinnWolfhard is a huge fan of not only NSP but the rest of the Grumpverse projects. When he met the Grumps, [[https://www.instagram.com/p/BO3OkE1hT-b/?hl=en Dan made the instant observation]] that Finn could easily pass as his little brother. This was eventually capitalized on, as Wolfhard was eventually commissioned to play a younger version of Danny in the music video for "Danny Don't You Know".

* ActorAllusion:
** "Why is that guy naked?" in ''Let's Get This Terrible Party Started''. The naked guy is played by Xan Alda.
** From ''Let's Get This Terrible Party Started'', Barry and Alex Kramer are part of the Jewish country band that are hired.
** Ninja Brian as UsefulNotes/AlbertEinstein in ''Dinosaur Laser Fight''.
** Danny as romance and Brian as science in ''Sex Training''.
* BigNameFan: Music/ChildishGambino was instrumental in growing the band's popularity when they were starting up; he posted the video for "The Decision" on his blog, leading to many more eyes being drawn to NSP, including Funny or Die.

* ColbertBump: According to Danny himself, the group took four years to get 40,000 Youtube subscribers. After joining WebVideo/GameGrumps, that number went up to 90,000 in the first month alone, and is currently sitting on over 200,000 subscribers. Exclusive fans of [[Creator/{{Egoraptor}} Arin's]] channel but not Grumps also found out about NSP from the insanely popular [[Music/StarBomb Luigi's Ballad]] video. As of 2018, they're sitting pretty on 1 million subs.
* TheDanza: Both Danny and Brian are played by people with the same names as them. While they are portrayed as entirely different people, there are some [[ActorAllusion Actor Allusions]] that cross over into their characters; more so with Danny than Brian. For example, Danny is indeed really Jewish, and if his stories from WebVideo/GameGrumps are true, he has had some very interesting sexual escapades, if not exactly the same as those his character has had. Brian, as per his character, is indeed the band's actual keyboardist, and his day job is a theoretical physicist, making his dressing up as a scientist in ''Dinosaur Laser Fight'' a mild ActorAllusion.

* PlayingAgainstType: "Under the Covers" features nothing but covers of rather serious songs, such as [[Music/TearsForFears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"]] and [[Music/PinkFloyd "Wish You Were Here"]]. NSP, meanwhile, mainly focuses on comedic songs that heavily rely on IntercourseWithYou.
** ''Danny Don't You Know?'' is an emotional PepTalkSong that doesn't rely heavily on [[IntercourseWithYou sex]] and more on [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre uplifting motivation and self-worth]].

** However, Danny's mom DOES voice Danny Sexbang's mother in "Welcome To My Parents' House."

* AbilityOverAppearance: Danny's date in ''I Don't Know What We're Talking About" is described as having oceanic eyes and golden hair. In the music video, she's played by the dark-haired, brown-eyed Safiya Nygaard.

* DawsonCasting: Both played straight and averted in the "Danny Don't You Know" music video; young!Danny is played by the then 16-year-old Creator/FinnWolfhard, the kid that bullies him is played by the then 29-year-old [[Creator/NateWantsToBattle Nathan Sharp]], and Ninja Brian apparently hasn't aged at all since high school, as he doesn't get a younger actor to play his counterpart.
