* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The game was going to be a small project made in 4 weeks, set to be released as a free gift for Halfbrick fans. It was then delayed and had variety of things changed. Luke Muscat discussed most of these in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pdFvJ4mT8M 2012 GDC Postmortem]].
** Each run was originally going to start with Barry breaking through the window, complete with few front-facing sprites. This was replaced with breaking the wall on the left to save pain of drawing front sprites for every single costume and make an entrance more dynamic.
** The game's main theme was going to be a dramatic and futuristic track known as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LMsc8HDFYw Serious Joyride]]. It's not used anywhere in the game, replaced by now-iconic upbeat theme of the final release.
** For a while, developers couldn't decide on the health system. Before it was decided on making Barry a OneHitPointWonder, 3 Hearts system (like in ''VideoGame/MonsterDash'') or regenerating health over time (Luke mentioned ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'' as an example of games that use this mechanic, but it also worked similarly in Barry's earlier game, ''VideoGame/AgeOfZombies'') were considered.
** Developers wanted to include regular Power-Ups, including the shield. These were replaced by the vehicles in the final release. However, they would be added to the game 5 years later.
** Bad As Hog was going to retain its red coloration from ''Monster Dash''. It was decided to make it black in the final release.
** The way missions worked in the game could be different as well. At one point, developers considered Optional missions (players were able to choose between two missions and decide which one they would complete) and Daily Missions.
** There were going to be a special pickup items, that would add additional points to the distance score. Additionally, players could earn bonus distance points by getting "Close Calls" with Zappers. The latter mechanic was repurposed for one of the Missions.
** After getting hit by a Zapper or Missile, Barry would pop out of existence, instead of flying additional distance. Something similar would be added in 2023 with Half a Brick gadget, that turns Barry into a brick upon getting KO'd and landing on the ground without additional bounces.
** Original announcements of the game refered to Legitimate Research as Maxtreme Industries.
** When the game was playable during the public events, jetpacks had [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jetpackjoyride/images/6/5f/BGJPED.png different]] [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jetpackjoyride/images/7/8f/SPJPED.png descriptions]], and were planned to have unique stats, so that the speed of rising, dropping and changing directions depended on what jetpack you are using. Those voice clips would be reused for his appearences in other Halfbrick games, like VideoGame/BattleRacingStars.
