* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The Linux port, which was outsourced to Aspyr. Gearbox pretty much cancelled their contract with Aspyr and as a result the Linux version doesn't get the Commander Lilith DLC, and is no longer capable of cross-platform play with Windows users. This has led to a strange situation where Linux users are now running the Windows version using [[UsefulNotes/{{Wine}} Proton]] instead of the native port, which is a shame because the Linux native port was really well optimized and was previously held as a shining example of how smoothly a game that has been properly optimized on Linux would run.

* DevelopmentGag:
** The side mission "The Name Game" has the Vault Hunters... well, hunt down bullymongs while Hammerlock attempts to come up with a catchier name for the beasts. He eventually gives up and sticks with bullymong. According to interviews, "The Name Game" was developed as a parody of their attempts at giving the bullymongs a suitable name, with ferovore and primal beast being among the considered names. Hammerlock even suggests renaming the bullymongs to ferovore and primal beast during the mission, only to find out that he can't use them for his almanac.
** The "No Vacancy" side mission has you restore power to a motel truck stop by repairing its generator. The three components you need are a [[Creator/GearboxSoftware Gearbox]], a Creator/{{Valve}}, and a Platform/{{Steam}} capacitor. Scooter then makes an in-universe application of this trope, narrating allusions to the development process of the game from the 3 aforementioned parts. Plus, the statement where "the steam pumps used to run on a different power source, until people complained and they changed it." is an allusion to how the PC port of this game now runs on the Steam matchmaking system instead of the more problematic [=GameSpy=] system used in the first game. In addition, [[VideoGame/HalfLifeOpposingForce this isn't the first time a Gearbox and a Valve were used to solve a particular problem]], though thankfully this time the mission doesn't involve a boss.
** One NPC in Sanctuary says "If you're not a fan of Bambugira's latest single you should be shot to death. Just a fact, man." Bamboo is an automatic software deployment tool, and JIRA is a bug-tracking system.

It is not available for the UsefulNotes/Xbox360, UsefulNotes/PlayStation3, UsefulNotes/PlayStationVita or even the [[UsefulNotes/{{Unix}} Linux]] ports[[note]]Though Proton might help, although given how ''the Linux port was once [[PolishedPort the shining textbook example of a port done right]]'', this just served to upset those who prefers the Native port even further[[/note]]. * {{Nepotism}}: An unintentional example. When Anthony Burch wrote the character of Tiny Tina, he unthinkingly created her based around his sister [[Creator/AshlyBurch Ashly]]. When he realized it, he figured he might as well ask her to audition for the part. While other actresses placed an audition, none of them could portray his sister better than his own sister, so Ashly ultimately got the part.

** On the other end of the spectrum, the companion app for the game, ''Loot the World'', is only available in the US iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Not even the Canadian or Mexican stores has it. Only the United States. Given the title, it is apparent that Gearbox is that ignorant of world geography. Needless to say, players of the game from outside the US aren't too pleased, especially since Gearbox had promised that the app unlocks unique weapons not usually found by looting in-game.

* DoingItForTheArt: Remember the [[OneSceneWonder "Face McShooty" sidequest]]? The one where you simply have to shoot a crazy guy in the face? Turns out that that was one of the hardest quests in the game to program, due to a number of problems when shooting him in other places. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2YYwM1coOU&t=8131 While on a skype call at AGDQ 2014]], Anthony Burch mentioned that a group of Gearbox employees worked on the quest "on and off for months."

* FanNickname:
** "Girlfriend Mode" - Coined by the game's Lead Designer John Hemingway for Gaige's Best Friends Forever skill tree, since the tree makes the Mechromancer a SkillGateCharacter designed for more survivability... Other variations include "the girlfriend skill tree" or the mode that your newbie girlfriend can play without being overwhelmed.
** Some fans have taken to calling the Bullymongs "Bonerfarts", even going so far as to never finish the quest given by Hammerlock so they keep their names.
** Other fans also refer to Axton's turret as "the little lady" or "the missus" after the affectionate nicknames Axton himself uses when deploying it.
** Various digs at Creator/FUNimation once the fans realized almost all of the actors involved have done work for them at some point.
** "Playthrough 2.5" refers to the mechanic wherein enemies and quests scale up to Level 50 once you complete [[NewGamePlus True Vault Hunter Mode]], which allows you to catch up with your gear and prepare for the harder "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode", the 3rd playthrough.
** Some GameBreaker gear combinations may get {{Portmanteau}} names such as the following:
*** "Pimperhab" for Pimpernel + Ahab
*** "Shamfleet" for Sham + Norfleet
*** "RocketJump" - Using Sham + Badaboom (preferably a low-level) to invoke this trope, jumping while shooting the rocket launcher on the ground will propel you to heights without wasting much of your rockets. Salvador can turn this UpToEleven since he can dual-wield two Badabooms for further heights.
** Likewise, some [[GoodBadBugs glitches]] outside of gear combinations are so well-known and exploitable that the community has given them names for easy identification, such as the "A.S.S.[[note]]Axton Super Speed[[/note]] Glitch" wherein Axton can have a stacking movement speed if he drops and picks up guns when aiming down the ironsights in another user's game session.
** "Deputy Sal" for a Salvador build focused on abusing an oversight in his Money Shot skill to deal huge damage with an offhand Jakobs shotgun (usually an Orphan Maker).
** Krieg's inner, sane personality has been referred to as "Inner Krieg", whereas his loud, screaming psycho persona gets called "Outer Krieg".
** Preferred weapons with otherwise long names or prefixes get acronyms to easily distinguish them, such as "DPUH" for the [[GameBreaker Double Penetrating Unkempt Harold]].
** "Trolling Thunder" for the Rolling Thunder grenade mod, as its combination of [[HyperDestructiveBouncingBall being a rubberized grenade that explodes on each bounce]] makes it exceptionally good at killing the user when deployed in enclosed spaces.
** "Slag Simulator" for the [[HarderThanHard Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode]], since you mostly have to rely on slagging your enemies and constantly switching weapons just to deal with their increased health and added regeneration. The mode also [[HardModePerks exclusively buffs the slag mechanics and weapon swapping]] as well, which really encourages players to incorporate slagging in their strategies while playing in UVHM. On the other hand, this nickname is also used as a derogatory term from those who hated UVHM due to the DifficultySpike and the over-reliance on slagging just to even have a decent pace of progressing against enemies.
** Since the names of the 4 major DLC campaigns have otherwise long names when written out in full, fans and community discussions (including this wiki) simply call them by the name of the starring character from that DLC:
*** "Captain Scarlett DLC" - ''Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty''
*** "Torgue DLC" - ''Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage''
*** "Hammerlock DLC" - ''Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt''
*** "Tiny Tina DLC" - ''Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep''
*** "Lilith DLC" - ''Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary''
** Salvador is known in Mexico as "Chava", which is how people named Salvador are widely known.
