* Leela's condition in "Leela and the genestalk". Poor Leela. She begins to turn into a writhing mass of tentacles and gets the grim news from Dr. Tenderman that there's nothing they can do for her. Then when things start to look up when she finds the beautiful realm in the clouds, she's captured by Mom and forced to undergo genetic experiments for three weeks. When she's found by Fry and Bender, she's fully transformed into a squid-like monster, feeling like the most hideous creature on earth. She doesn't even believe that Fry could possibly still love her. It becomes a moment of Heartwarming when she sees that his devotion to her is sincere and certainly a confidence boost, knowing she's always beautiful to him.

The sad look Bender gets after calculating for a considerable amount of time, implying that there is absolutely no hope for Fry and Leela and that he didn't have the heart to tell Fry... for me that was the most hopeless scene on the entire show.

** The HopeSpot where Fry [[BackFromTheDead fully reconstitutes from spilled royal jelly and trace amounts of his DNA found in the couch cushions]], [[SubvertedTrope only for Leela to wake up]] ''[[RealityEnsues again]],'' is roughly the point where you realize that [[UnexpectedlyDarkEpisode you should have buckled up]].

It's a BittersweetEnding more than anything as Calculon's VirtualGhost is now content, being remembered as a great actor rather than a has-been, but there's something sad about knowing that one of the ''Futurama'' universe's most beloved constants has run its course, even before you take the RealitySubtext of the second cancellation into account ("Calculon 2.0" being among the show's last episodes).

It's made worse by TheReveal that Zoidberg could have had a lucrative job at MomCorp at any time and instead chose to work for peanuts and live in a dumpster out of loyalty to Farnsworth.

** What's worse is that the episode implies an EndOfAnAge for [[RidiculouslyHumanRobot the screwed-up and lovable robots seen throughout the show]], as the new model is a greener and more practical counterpart to the edgy and environmentally disastrous model pioneered by Farnsworth, but hews closer to JustAMachine in terms of personality and self-awareness. Fortunately for Bender and his ilk, [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse it was barely brought up again]].
