* For most of the game, Dail is a bombastic KnightTemplar who hounds the heroes as they get in his way. Except in the intro, where it's shown why he's this way. Brevon layed seige to Shuigang Palace and beheaded the king. [[ForcedToWatch Right in front of Dail]]. Dail is rightly horrified and in tears as his life and family is torn apart before his eyes. Then Brevon [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashes him into his puppet]], and all we hear is a scream. For the entire game, he helps with Brevon's dirty work in the name of avenging his father, and doesn't realize he's working for his killer. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.

** The whole situation gets even worse in hindsight. As revealed in the sequel, Milla was traumatized by the experience to the point that years later, when she hears even the ''possibility'' from Serpentine that Brevon might return, [[TraumaButton it all comes rushing back]] and [[HeroicBsod the poor girl breaks down in absolute terror]]. It's then also revealed that she's an extra-terrestrial who comes from the same planet as her tormentors, leading to [[IAmAMonster her horror at the possibility that she's just a weapon rather than an actual person]]. ''Then'', while it fortunately fails due to Milla's HeroicWillpower and ThePowerOfFriendship, Serpentine tries to brainwash her by having Syntax use a "Resonance Link" on her, putting her through the very same trauma all over again.

* Probably not a good idea to get too attached to Lilac's treehouse. After an exhaustive chase with Aaa's mechanical GiantEnemyCrab at the start of the sequel, Lilac returns home only to find the tree cleaved in the upper branches and her treehouse in ruins. Her subsequently collapsing to the ground and protesting the fate that befell it only adds to the drama... not to mention the argument she gets into with Carol because both were away from home at the time. One has to wonder what would have happened if one of them ''was'' in the treehouse when it fell...
* Lilac laying into Spade for how he effectively forced her into the life of a criminal by stealing her egg.
-->I have a ''criminal record'' because of you, Spade! I had to ''live in the woods'' because my wanted posters were everywhere!

* Milla's a sweet child. This makes both Carol and Lilac's reactions near the end of the game when Brevon turns her into a monster and forces them to fight and [[KillTheCutie seemingly be killed by them]] much more painful. For extra points, Lilac's body language and voice-acting really underlines her heart breaking at that very moment, and it is only amplified by her ''furious'' screams as she [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown delivers multiple Dragon Boosts right into Brevon's gut]] when she defeats him. The fact that [[AndIMustScream Milla was aware of what she was doing the whole time]] and [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone apologizes tearfully later]] only makes it more bitter; thankfully, Carol and Lilac immediately forgive her, as it wasn't her fault. The tears Carol visibly sheds after ''that'' boss battle when you play as her can pretty much lead you to shedding tears of your own with her, too.

* When Carol and Lilac are excitedly thinking of how fun it would be to go on an adventure in space, Torque wistfully notes he once thought the same thing. But says he wasn't prepared for the sacrifices he'd later have to make, likely referring to his old crew. * Milla mentions making a feather potion to her CompanionCube MR. Stumpy to fly high enough to find her parents. Later making a wish on the deck of Zao's ship to find them implies she's too innocent to understand that they're more than likely dead. As for her aforementioned CompanionCube, she merely gives a halfhearted giggle that he's so quiet around her, making it ambiguous if her time alone has driven her to make up imaginary friends to talk to in order to stave off being alone in the forest for years.
* When Carol and Lilac are excitedly thinking of how fun it would be to go on an adventure in space, Torque wistfully notes he once thought the same thing. But says he wasn't prepared for the sacrifices he'd later have to make, likely referring to his old crew. When giving the girls exposition about Lord Brevon, he mentions that he'd sworn on his captain's dying breath that he'd stop him or destroy the Kingdom Stone. He's normally quite stoic, but this gets to a breaking point before the Final Dreadnought as he first insists on going in alone. When the girls protest that they'll do it together, he suddenly shouts, "I can't lose another crew!" [[IronWoobie This guy needs a hug]].
