* How about Pvt. Jackson's death in Episode 8, "The Last Patrol"? He tossed a grenade into a German outpost, but then in a TooDumbToLive / LeeroyJenkins moment, goes in before it blew, and ends up getting his face horribly mutilated by the explosion and shrapnel. Despite the best efforts of Doc and the others, Jackson can only whimper "I don't want to die" before his throat becomes clogged with his own blood, leading to him gagging and choking before the trauma finally does him in and he goes silent for good. Even the German POWs looked disheartened and ashamed of being partially responsible for Jackson's death.

No meta moment, see this query.

*** It becomes sort of a meta-example when you realize that the Easy Company men didn't ''know'' that he survived: the "fact" of his death was gotten from interviews with Easy Company men who were mistakenly informed he'd died, so his compatriots had no idea that he actually lived almost another 20 years.

Removing some ahistorical nonsense that let everyday Germans off the hook for their complicity in the Shoah and misrepresented why the US was in the war.

*** Earlier during the episode, Perconte had laid into a new recruit for being so eager to fight, especially since Easy Company had just earned themselves some rest time. Now, Perconte has a greater understanding of why exactly the Allies are fighting this war, and comes to the realization that an entire culture of people have had it ''worse'' than him simply on account of who they are.
** Local civilians living nearby apparently had no idea that there was a concentration camp next door to their town. Many broke down in tears upon witnessing the horrors within after being enlisted to help clean up the place.
*** In particular, Nixon had earlier gotten a DeathGlare from the wife of a German soldier when she caught him looting their house. When Nixon spots her as part of the clean-up crew, she can't even look him in the eye after learning what her husband was really fighting for.

*** Probably even more sad in real life. Leibgott wasn't a practising Jew at this point in life but a Roman Catholic and there abounds a rumor his parent's made him convert to Catholicism to conceal his Jewish identity due to the rabid antisemitism at the time and the fact that both his parents were direct immigrants from Germany (with a few distant ancestors who were Jewish) just makes pain even far worse. Notably, Leibgott intentionally broke off all contact with anyone from Easy Company after the war was over.

** Local civilians living nearby apparently had no idea that there was a concentration camp next door to their town. Many broke down in tears upon witnessing the horrors within after being enlisted to help cleaning up the place.

** When Easy Company starts taking food from the bakery to give to the prisoners, the baker is upset about this, and Webster puts a gun to his head and after the baker says that he needs to eat, he says "What about human beings?", referring to the Jews who were starving because they were "undesirables". Then Leibgott translates to Webster what the baker said (which Nixon already knew because he also spoke German), and Nixon tiredly not shooting the baker.

After being demoted, embarressing himself trying to find Vat 69, and his wife divorcing him, you can just feel how all the things he's just been through taking a toll, and how if the baker is lying, than that means that he's been ignoring this for years.
