In early 2020, several of the region's prominent members left the region due to fading interest, including the founder Midrasia. At the same time, newer members such as Glytter and Welch began to exert larger influence, eventually attempting to significantly change the foundation of the region, including the map. Experienced members noted that the suggested changes were an attempt to give space for more eurocentric and white nations, and rejected the changes. The ensuing conflict caused the newer members to have tantrums in Discord and rage-quit the region. Glytter later rejoined for three days and was welcomed to work on new lore by moderators; this insulted the region's older, more helpful members, prompting them to leave. Some of the people who left ultimately joined Kylaris, where there was room for nations that the newer members wanted to create, and which they had already been neglecting Aeia in favor of. The combination of these events caused the disintegration of the region by July 2020.

In Nationstates, it is a medium-sized region that has recently risen to prominence. The region was founded in 2016 by NS user Midrasia.

With 72 member countries as of March 2019 (users, puppet users, lurkers etc.), the region is not password protected and welcomes most newcomers. However, the canon is closed, meaning one has to become a member to participate in roleplays, which can be achieved by submitting an application. As of 2019, several countries have joined and left, but there are an appreciated number of people who have chosen to remain in the region for an indefinite time.

In contrast to some other regions, Aeia largely detaches itself from IRL entities, either by renaming them or replacing them altogether. For example, Scandinavian is renamed Lhedwinic, and Christianity is replaced by the fictional religions Alydianism and Trúathi. For the sake of reader understanding, the tropes and country descriptions have their IRL culture name attached to them.
