** Emma and Lily, in terms of how their lives went vs. how they could have (same background, and whether one was good or evil/had a happy life or one of suffering was enforced by a spell). Described by Lily as "Savior vs. Anti-Savior."
** Emma and Regina. Continually lampshaded by the latter to try and steer Emma off her dark course. Emma at first also tries to play this card by pointing out what she would do to protect her family is no different than what Regina would do to Zelena to protect Robin...but aside from the fact Regina's quite right about it being different (she isn't the Savior, so taking such actions only threatens her own heroism and happiness, not everyone else's), the fact Emma is saying being more like Regina is a ''good'' thing is cause for alarm. Even Regina's "Really, Swan?" look says as much.

* ContinuityNod: Emma's ability to find people is brought up by Maleficent, and her ability to tell when people are lying returns. Also, the wolf that drove her off the road when she tried to leave Storybrooke back in Season 1 appears again.

* DiabolusExMachina: In-universe, this is Lily's life in a nutshell. Something will always happen to screw with her.

* EnemyMine: Maleficent teams up with Emma and Regina to stop Gold in exchange for them finding her daughter. However, it's heavily implied that she plans to kill the Charmings once Emma reunites her with Lily. Thankfully for them, the next episode subverts this as when her daughter arrives she changes her mind and by the end of the episode is no longer one of the [[BigBad Big Bads]].

* MoralityChain: ''Regina'' manages to be this to Emma. Hook also speaks of this as to how she can stay on the right path (and what is keeping him on his).

* LonelyFuneral: For Cruella, with only Gold and the Author in attendance (and a plain wooden coffin). One might have expected at least Maleficent to be there. Then again, Cruella did admit to leaving her daughter to die in the woods right before her death.

* ThereAreNoCoincidences: At least not in the case of Emma and Lily--as the Sorcerer himself says, the two of them are bound together forever (thanks to both the nature of the spell and the former's darkness being placed in the latter) and thus will keep being drawn together. Lampshaded by both Regina (referencing her having adopted the son of the Savior) and Emma. Subverted a bit, though, since while Emma and Lily's first meeting and the one shown in the flashback happened on their own, it seems very clear that Lily and Emma living near each other as adults is due to the Apprentice's information.

* EnemyMine: Maleficent teams up with the others to stop Gold. However it's heavilly implied that she plans to kill the Charmings once Emma reunites her with Lily.
* EvilVsEvil: Maleficent has abandoned Gold after Cruella's death and throws her lot in with the others so Emma can find her daughter. But Gold being Gold, this actually works out in his favor.

* LonelyFuneral: For Cruella, with only Gold and the Author in attendance (and a plain wooden coffin). Acts as {{Foreshadowing}} that Maleficent was about to turn on Gold for his betrayal, but also displays how hardly anyone cared about her.

* BeingGoodSucks: Emma can't kill an innocent (or an old friend), and instead makes the tough choice of sparing Lily and trying to fix her life as atonement for what her parents did. But since Lily herself said that doing this would let her destroy everyone in Storybrooke, and Maleficent would be happy to help her punish the Charmings in particular, Emma has just set herself up for a future conflict when she might have to kill Lily anyway.

* ContinuityNod: Emma's ability to find people is brought up by Maleficent, and her ability to tell when people are lying returns. Also, the wolf that drove her off the road when she tried to leave Storybrooke back in Season 1 appears again. (The fact it was connected to Graham, and Regina was sitting right there and dismissing it, is [[ElephantInTheLivingRoom a separate issue]].)

* KarmaHoudini: InUniverse, Maleficent and Lily overlook the part the Author played in their separation and instead focuse their hate on the Charmings.

* BaitAndSwitch: At first we think Gold is going to do something horrible to Will then we find out he just wants him to break into Regina's office to steal back Belle's heart.
