* AdultFear: Downplayed. Olympia and Otis try going to their co-workers to have them babysit Baby Genius. They first try Ocean, only to be warded off by his lobster claws (in place of his hands), and they find Oona to be far too klutzy and dangerous to take care of a baby. They eventually settle on Orson, but he doesn't get along with Baby Genius, and Olympia and Otis are forced to be the bonafide babysitters for the episode. It can generally resonate with parents who have trouble finding a safe, competent, and reliable babysitter.

** Olympia later does an ''amazing'' one when she and Otis are attempting to figure out who should take Baby Genius with them to their assigned address on Flower Street (Otis takes 22, Olympia takes 18). Her "idea" consists of Otis taking all of the bags that are on her person, then immediately running in the opposite direction without a word. It leaves Otis to do multiple [[DoubleTake Double Takes]] before he realizes he's stuck with the baby.

'''''Ocean and the Fly'''''

'''Airdates:''' October 19, 2017 [[note]] PBS Kids premiere[[/note]], December 3, 2016 [[note]] TVO Kids premiere[[/note]]

Oona recalls when she switched bodies with a fly.

----
!!Tropes:

* APirate400YearsTooLate: Captain Butterbeard is a pirate who wishes to start up his own company, which sells butter. Despite his silly motives, he has the [[TalkLikeAPirate pirate talk]] and the [[DressedToPlunder attire]] to match.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Subverted. When Owen tells Otis that Oona switched bodies with a fly, he calls it ridiculous, when he himself works at a place full of oddities. While Owen agrees, Otis expands on his statement by saying that he was just having lunch with her.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Owen states that flies aren't allowed in Odd Squad headquarters, due to the fact that they can get into the walls and chew through the wiring. While it is possible for flies to enter the walls of buildings, they much prefer food, garbage, and other things, and (quite obviously) can't eat electrical wiring. Owen being [[TheDitz who he is,]] it's likely he got mice mixed up with flies (since mice ''do'' enter walls and eat through wires often), but he is later shown employing such things as flypaper and garbage to lure the fly-in-Oona's-body to him at the climax of the episode.
* BaitAndSwitch: When Ocean and Oona come across Captain Butterbeard, we're led to believe that he's giving them a difficult task. In reality, he just wants them to choose a packaging for his butter.
* BigWhat: Ocean and Oona give one when Owen tells them he hasn't found the fly.
* BlandNameProduct: One of the butter labels looks near-similar to the [[https://img.apmcdn.org/14712fc6cf141a5109de59a1b6ff90d41e2f9f1a/portrait/d27492-20200420-landolakes-packaging.jpg Land O' Lakes brand]] (before they got rid of the Native American woman on it, that is). The other label looks more akin to the [[https://marvel-b1-cdn.bc0a.com/f00000000209980/www.sunmaid.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/12oz_CaliforniaSunDriedRaisins_Box_Front_Website.png Sun-Maid brand]].
* BrickJoke: One occurs in this episode that comes in the form of Owen asking Otis and Olympia where the fly-as-Oona is, only for them to not know. This causes him to believe that both of the conversations are wastes of time, to which they point out something minorly wrong with him -- which in turn causes a back-and-forth exchange RuleOfThree style.
* BugBuzz: Oona emits one while in fly form that causes Owen to begin swatting at her. On the other side of the coin, the fly in Oona's body also does this.
** Owen also combines this with HeliumSpeech at the end of the episode.
* CallBack: This is the third episode that focuses primarily on Ocean and Oona, following [[Recap/OddSquadS2E8AndThenTheyWerePuppiesACaseOfTheSillies "A Case of the Sillies"]] and [[Recap/OddSquadS2E20OonaAndTheOonabotsTheNinjaSituation "Oona and the Oonabots"]]. And just like "A Case of the Sillies", it's another "find the ingredients for the cure" plot.
* CaptainColorbeard: This episode has a variant -- the captain that Oona and Ocean meet is named Captain ''Butter''beard, as a reference to his butter that he's selling.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Owen hears from Ocean how Oona got turned into a fly, the first thing he asks is the status of the ham sandwich and if it's still up for grabs.
* ContinuityNod: The martial arts teacher from [[Recap/OddSquadS2E15OIsForOppositeAgentOksanasKitchenNightmares "O is For Opposite"]] returns in this episode, only with his real identity revealed: Karate Karl.
** Owen is reading a Security department-branded book covering [[Recap/OddSquadS2E23XsAndOsDrONo batons.]]
* CoveredInGunge: Owen and Oona both end up slathered in the cure when the latter gets turned back to normal.
* DancingIsSeriousBusiness: Ocean and Oona must perform a dance for Baby Genius in order to obtain a griffon whisker from him. However, Ocean finds the music Rivka plays on her keytar impossible to dance to, so Oona flies around his head and annoys him to get him to move.
* EarAche: In a twist of {{Irony}}, Oona's eardrums feel the full extent of Owen's "going on break" shouted with both HeliumSpeech and a BugBuzz, whereas Owen was complaining about Oona's own high-pitched voice giving him a headache earlier.
* EmbarrassingRingtone: Defied by Otis, who asks Oona what his ringtone should be. However, since "Oona" is really a fly in Oona's body, all it can do is buzz, which Otis agrees is a good ringtone. [[note]] Keep in mind that he's not putting his phone on vibrate; the ringtone is more of a harsh buzzing, like a swarm of bees or wasps.[[/note]]
* FindTheCure: ''Find the Ingredients for the Cure,'' [[Recap/OddSquadS1E15TheOddAntidoteTheOneThatGotAway Part]] [[Recap/OddSquadS2E8AndThenTheyWerePuppiesACaseOfTheSillies 3:]] [[OddlyNamedSequel2ElectricBoogaloo Electric Boogaloo!]]
* FlashbackCut: Two are seen when Olympia and Otis are recounting their interactions with the fly-in-Oona's-body.
* FreakyFridayFlip: Parodied. The episode revolves around Oona switching bodies with, of all things, a fly, as a result of an experiment gone wrong. [[note]] She was initially attempting to switch the bodies of a fly and a ham sandwich.[[/note]] While she still retains her own voice while in fly form, it is pitched high enough to be near ''Franchise/AlvinAndTheChipmunks'' levels -- meanwhile, the fly still retains its BugBuzz while in Oona's body, and also gets the hang of being bipedal versus having six legs.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Owen attempts to kill Oona, in a fly's body, at the beginning of the episode. Even if she is a fly, it still constitutes as murder nonetheless.
* GratuitousFrench: Rivka calls Ocean's improvised dance performance "avant-garde".
* {{Hammerspace}}: Apparently, this isn't just an ability Odd Squad agents have -- Rivka has it as well, as she pulls a keytar out from behind her back.
** Ocean also demonstrates a variant on the usual ability by pulling a shoelace off of what appears to be the ground.
* HeliumSpeech: Employed for Oona, natch, while in a fly's body. It gives Owen a headache, but it manages to grow on Ocean. Funny enough, Owen manages to develop a high-pitched voice near the end of the episode, as a result of swapping bodies with the fly.
* HereWeGoAgain: Ocean manages to splash the cure on Owen, Oona and the fly, and while it turns Oona back to normal, Owen is also affected, having the same BugBuzz and HeliumSpeech Oona had while as a fly (simultaneously, to boot!), leading Ocean to start finding the ingredients and mixing up another batch of the cure.
* HiddenDepths: Rivka is quite skilled at playing the keytar.
** Similarly, Olympia shows promise with strumming a ukulele.
* {{Kiai}}: Karate Karl uses this often when chopping boards.
* KillTheLights: A sort of heroic variant -- Rivka kept the Odd Squad Warehouse dark and mysterious because she thought that's how Odd Squad liked their interactions with her and Baby Genius. Ocean tells her that it's super-creepy.
* LetsDuet: Olympia and the fly-in-Oona's-body both do this with the "Wheels on the Bus" song, with Olympia singing the "wheels on the" part and inviting the fly to finish the lyrics.
* LightswitchSurprise: Rivka is unable to see Oona in her fly form, so she turns on the lights, which allows her to see the Scientist better.
* LowerDeckEpisode: The episode focuses on Ocean and Oona, as well as Owen.
* MartialArtsForMundanePurposes: Played with. Karate Karl calls Odd Squad to his classroom so he can demonstrate his karate chops to them as a means of showing off. He can chop through at least 2 boards with his bare hands, but can't chop 10.
* MusicalisInterruptus: The full "Wheels on the Bus" song doesn't even play in full, as the end of the FlashbackCut cuts Olympia off from singing it.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Par for the course for [[TheKlutz Oona,]] as she manages to drop a gadget from her pocket, causing the FreakyFridayFlip to occur.
* OhCrap: Ocean and Oona have one when the pirate manages to find them in the grocery store after people become driven away by his butter's label. He ends up giving chase to them, but they both manage to make it back to HQ intact.
* OnlyOneFindsItFun: The only people who are interested in the afternoon sing-along are Olympia, a few background agents, and the fly.
* {{Overcrank}}: Employed when the fly-in-Oona's-body runs towards Owen, who has garbage to lure it in.
* POVCam: A few shots in this episode are shot from Oona-as-a-fly's point of view, where her vision is kaleidoscopic.
* PutOnABus: This is Rivka's and Baby Genius's last appearances on the show, as they aren't seen again for the rest of the series.
* RuleOfThree: Employed in the BrickJoke, with Otis and Olympia telling Owen that he has lettuce stuck in his teeth and a stain on his shirt, respectively. When he attempts to get rid of the lettuce and the stain, this occurs.
--> '''Owen:''' Did I get it?
--> '''Otis/Olympia:''' Nope.
--> '''Owen:''' Did I get it?
--> '''Otis/Olympia:''' Nope.
--> '''Owen:''' Did I get it?
--> '''Otis/Olympia:''' Yep.
--> '''Owen:''' Really?
--> '''Otis:''' No.
* SickeningCrunch: Karate Karl manages to break his wrist when attempting to chop 10 boards -- and in a surprisingly audible fashion for a Creator/PBSKids show (although it wouldn't be the [[Recap/OddSquadS1E32NotSoSplashByTheBook first time]]).
* StealthHiBye: While this is Rivka's and Baby Genius's modus operandi, this episode has a bit of a twist on the norm, where Rivka and Baby Genius fail to hide properly due to the lights being on.
--> '''Ocean:''' Thank y- ''whoa!'' They're gone.
--> '''Oona:''' Actually, they're right there.
--> '''Rivka:''' I admit, it is harder to mysteriously disappear with the lights on. Or is it? ''[rams the stroller into a door and backs up]'' It is! It is.
* YouExclamation: The pirate spots Ocean and Oona at the grocery store and gives a very angry "Ye!" before chasing them.

'''Airdates:''' October 19, 2017 [[note]]PBS Kids premiere[[/note]], December 3, 2016 [[note]]TVO Kids premiere[[/note]]

Olympia and Otis baby-sit Baby Genius.

----
!!Tropes:

* ActingUnnatural: As Olympia and Otis make a not-so-graceful landing with Baby Genius's stroller, they immediately get up, and Olympia tells Otis to "try and look cool". Marty Marmalade immediately admits defeat.
* ArtisticLicensePhysics: While a stroller having rocket booster capability (and by extension, flight capability) is something that can easily be overlooked with this show, Olympia and Otis shouldn't be able to both grip the handle of the stroller and fit on it without immediately falling off, no matter how fast the stroller is going; the partner pair exceed the length of the stroller's handle when standing side by side.
* BabysFirstWords: Baby Genius says his first words in this episode. Considering he's a BrainyBaby, it's surprising he hasn't said them sooner, but it's only natural that his actual first word would be "division".
* BabysittingEpisode: The episode revolves around Otis and Olympia attempting to babysit Baby Genius while trying to track down Marty Marmalade, Jamie Jam's cousin. When passing babysitting duties to other agents doesn't work out, the partner pair are forced to take him out into the field.
* BabyTalk: Yep, even as a BrainyBaby, Baby Genius still talks like this. Surprisingly, though, his voice sounds a lot more kid-like than that of an infant.
* BackToSchool: It's revealed that Rivka asked Olympia and Otis to babysit Baby Genius for her so she can go back to Shmumbers U and graduate from pilot school.
* BrainyBaby: Par for the course with Baby Genius, who helps Olympia and Otis crack Marty Marmalade's codes. Unfortunately, they fail to realize that he's ''called'' Baby Genius for a reason until the climax.
* ChekhovsGunman: When asking other people to babysit Baby Genius doesn't work out, Olympia and Otis are forced to take him on their case, and end up repeatedly failing to find Marty Marmalade. As it turns out, Baby Genius is the one who helps them out at the end of the episode. Ms. O even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it, which is later recited by Otis at the climax of the episode.
--> '''Ms. O:''' Don't see him as a problem. See him as an opportunity!
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Otis vents to Olympia that he tried everything to calm down Baby Genius, including funny faces, he mentions how geniuses are just fussy. Olympia asks him to repeat what he said, only for him to believe that she's referring to the "funny faces" portion. She's not;
* ContinuityNod: The ColdOpen client, Pam, from [[Recap/OddSquadS2E15OIsForOppositeAgentOksanasKitchenNightmares "O is For Opposite"]] makes a return appearance, and is revealed to have gotten ''seven promotions'' since she last say Olympia and Otis.
** This is the second BabysittingEpisode in the series, following [[Recap/OddSquadS1E19HoldTheDoorFlatastrophe "Hold the Door"]]. However, that's about the only thing the two episodes have in common, aside from both Olive and Otto ''and'' Otis and Olympia being ineffective babysitters; hence, this episode doesn't serve as a SpiritualSuccessor to that one.
** Ocean has [[Recap/OddSquadS1E14TheJackiesInvasionOfTheBodySwitchers lobster hands]] when he is approached by Olympia and Otis about babysitting.
* DancingIsSeriousBusiness: Both Pam and Olympia begin dancing in the ColdOpen. Otis, on the other hand, looks on with a smile, but doesn't dance.
* TheDiaperChange: While it's not shown onscreen, Ms. O informs Olympia and Otis that Baby Genius most likely needs a diaper change, before handing them the case and sending them on their way.
* DoubleTake: Olympia and Otis manage to presumably crack Marty Marmalade's code, and before heading out to intercept him, Olympia asks about Baby Genius. Otis responds that everything is fine, since he's being babysat by Orson. Just then, Baby Genius begins crying offscreen, and they turn to look with calm expressions on their faces...before an OhCrap settles on both of them moments later.
--> '''Olympia:''' Baby fight, ''baby fight!''
--> '''Otis:''' We'd better take him with us.
* HiddenDepths: If the robotic arm Ms. O built is any indication, she's part GadgeteerGenius.
** Neither Ocean, nor Oona, nor Orson have any skills in babysitting whatsoever. On that note, neither do Olympia and Otis, although they're much more competent than their co-workers.
** Rivka is apparently going to pilot school, and manages to graduate and receive her certificate -- which would explain why her stroller has rocket boosters and can fly, but isn't good at landings.
* IAmSong: The song in the ColdOpen about Pam. It definitely has a very nice and smooth jazz feel to it.
* InsistentTerminology: Ms. O makes sure that Olympia and Otis know the difference between an assignment and a case.
--> '''Ms. O:''' ''[slamming her hand on the folder]'' And now, here's your case.
--> '''Olympia:''' I thought Baby Genius ''was'' our case.
--> '''Ms. O:''' ''Nooo,'' that's an ''assignment.'' Your ''case'' is stopping Jamie Jam's cousin, Marty Marmalade.
** A RunningGag in the episode is Olympia, and later Otis, explaining the differences between jam and marmalade.
* InvisibleBackupBand: Pam's problem is that every time she performs an action, she has a backup singer narrate it for whoever happens to listen. She actually enjoys hearing him sing, but would prefer he sing about something other than work. As a result, he begins to sing about her other interests, such as getting a pilot's license and running for charity.
* TheKlutz: Oona, natch -- so much so that Olympia and Otis immediately forgo their idea of her being Baby Genius's babysitter once they see her accidentally knocking stuff to and fro.
* MixAndMatchMan: Ocean has lobster hands, which leads Olympia and Otis to try and find someone else to take care of Baby Genius.
* MusicalSting: This episode has a unique twist on the usual "dun-dun-dunnn" sting -- the camera cuts closer to Marty Marmalade on each "dun".
* NoTitle: Like all Season 2 songs, the song in the ColdOpen isn't given a name.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Played with. The bags that Olympia and Otis hold seem to provide padding for their landing, and are completely uninjured. Likewise, Baby Genius is also uninjured, but doesn't have anything to prevent the stroller's landing, like any sort of cushion.
* NotQuiteFlight: Otis and Olympia achieve this with Baby Genius's stroller, which has the ability to fly via rocket boosters. They take ahold of the handle and go for a RocketRide, managing to hover a little ways above Marty Marmalade.
--> '''Otis:''' There he is! Drop the marmalade, Marty Marmalade!
--> '''Marty:''' Odd Squad?
--> '''Olympia:''' That's right, we can ''fly'' now!
--> '''Marty:''' [[LampshadeHanging You're not really]] ''[[LampshadeHanging flying,]]'' [[LampshadeHanging you're more hanging on to a...weird-looking...]][[BuffySpeak carriage rocket thingy.]]
* OffModel: When Otis tells Olympia to get on the stroller, his mouth doesn't match his words; he's depicted as yelling rather than speaking.
* RevealShot: For their third option, Olympia and Otis go to someone that they know is responsible and has experience, and is the most mature person here. Cut to the someone in question: Agent Orson.
** A little later, Olympia and Otis hear the sound of a baby crying, and go to take Baby Genius with them...before it's revealed that it wasn't Orson crying, it was Baby Genius.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Olympia and Otis see that Ocean has lobster hands and immediately book it out of the Creature Room with Baby Genius.
--> '''Otis:''' ''[growls]'' [[ActuallyAGoodIdea That]] ''[[ActuallyAGoodIdea was]]'' [[ActuallyAGoodIdea a good idea.]]
* TheSmartGirl: [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]] -- Olympia is well-versed in Odd Squad history up to the ''very second.''
* SpearCounterpart: Marty Marmalade is one to Jamie Jam, having the same powers as well as the same InsistentTerminology trait when it comes to the differences between jam and marmalade. His overall appearance is similar to her as well. It helps that they're cousins.
* StealthHiBye: The backup singer in the ColdOpen appears suddenly from behind Pam's chair, and later ducks down behind her chair.
** Ms. O later invokes this when she tells Olympia and Otis to look to their right, then look back, so Rivka and Baby Genius can appear, and also does it at the end of the episode to summon Rivka only.
** Olympia and Otis do this when Oona agrees to watch Baby Genius. As soon as Oona knocks some more stuff over with the handle of her Broom-inator, they get out of the Lab.
