1. #77 handwaves this as their memories being tampered with (when they 1st got the Elements, it was due to what they thought was Discord but according to the comic was Cosmos. And I remembered the Plunder Vines, so he wasn't unaware of the Elements threat. 2. His actions from "Return of Harmony" don't seems so bad in hindsight (no-one was hurt) or fit the direction they took him. 3. Maybe she created Everfree Forest centuries before then, they're the kind of beings who'd be long-lived enough for the story to take place over such a long time. Moving points of contention to Fan Disliked Explanation.

** Celestia and Luna are shown using the Elements of Harmony against Cosmos alongside Discord, which clashes with the idea that Discord was unaware of the Elements' power when they were used on him in "Princess Twilight Sparkle". In fact, ''they'' shouldn't know what they are, because they explicitly discovered them ''to'' defeat Discord in the first place, and Celestia says as much, but in the scene presented, Discord hasn't taken over Equestria or done more than 'mere annoyances' in Celestia's words. They're also small enough for all three of them to slot easily into necklaces the two wear, while when used by them in the past the Elements were so large they needed to be carried in saddle bags or stored separately when not in use.

** Discord says Cosmos's star prison was knocked out of the sky 'years ago' while he was unsealed, which Twilight implies was a very long time ago. Yet canonically, immediately after the Elements were first discovered, Discord was turned to stone. While the show is vague about time passing, the first three seasons canonically took place all in one year. Discord has only been free a few years max, not the period of time Twilight suggests.
** Issue #77 reveals Discord's reign was actually Cosmos while he was trying to limit her damage and she was the one who took over and threw everything into chaos, while Discord was a prankster at worst. This overlooks that when Discord escaped in the season two opener, he was genuinely evil without Cosmos being present and threw everything into chaos and did sadistic things all on his own, as well as him later betraying everyone to Tirek for his own selfish desires.
** According to Discord, Cosmos made Everfree Forest. However, she was defeated using the Elements (along with other magical artifacts), and Everfree Forest existed when the Pillars were around, before the Elements ever existed, meaning this is impossible.

** It's shown Discord says was unsealed when he witnessed Cosmos's star prison was knocked out of the sky 'years ago' while sky. But he was unsealed, sealed at the start of ''Friendship is Magic'', which was far more recent than how long ago Twilight implies it was a very long time ago. Yet canonically, immediately after the Elements were first discovered, Discord was turned to stone. It just states Cosmos needs someone powerful, doesn't specify magical power. Zecora and Big Mac could be mental and physical power in this case.

** The first issue says only extremely powerful beings like the Alicorns can serve as Cosmos's hosts, with the rest of the Mane Six being unaffected by her necklace and not even hearing her voice despite being powerful in their own right. In the second issue, this rule is promptly forgotten and Big Mac and Zecora are suitable hosts with no real explanation.

1. Snarl is inconsistency with other works, not internal. 2. Maybe it refers to mental strength which is related but not necessarily connected to magical Power Levels.

Celestia describes Discord's previous actions as 'mere annoyances', while Cosmos's rampage was implied to have just begun. Even if Discord replaced Cosmos with himself in their minds, it doesn't line up at all with the show's timeline of Discord taking over Equestria and ruling it as a dystopia until being defeated.
