** Clive agreeing with everything Gordon says even if it contradicts something he previously said, and to a lesser extent his repeated mentions of having won the breakthrough talent award in 2003.
** Paula very obviously not having watched any of the performances in question and constantly using the same template for all her comments, starting with "(actress) stole my heart in..."

Overlong plot summary replaced with concise version, as per mod decision.

The Royal Academy of Motion Picture Arts is to decide this year's winners of its prestigious TV awards, and Jury 9 is assigned to choose the Best Actress award. Clive, a struggling writer, arrives and chairman Giles introduces him to the rest of the jury. The others are Jackie, a member of the public chosen for the jury; Gordon, a popular director; June, a TV critic, Rupert, a respected veteran actor; and Paula, a theatrical producer. Clive tries to get Gordon interested in one of his scripts, but Gordon clearly isn't paying attention. Paula meanwhile is keen to leave and get to another appointment. The jury quickly narrows down the longlist to four nominees.

Everyone discusses Shona Andrews' performance as Marie Curie. It becomes clear that Rupert is biased in favour of another nominee: Dame Dorothy Sutton, with whom he went to drama school together and once had an affair. Giles suggests Rupert abstain from voting on her, to Rupert's distaste. The conversation rapidly goes off-topic as Paula struggles to cover the fact she has not watched any of the performances, while Clive tries to promote his own writing. Gordon, Clive, and June agree that the third nominee (Kelly Marsden) is not quite ready for the award just yet. Giles asks Jackie's opinion; she is a fan of Marsden, whose performance made Jackie and her mother cry.

The conversation comes around to the final nominee: Anna Adeyemi. When everyone looks at Gordon first (since he and Anna both happen to be black), Gordon becomes angry and feels he was chosen for the jury because of tokenism. Rupert complains that they're expected to have at least one person of colour on the panel while Giles tries to deny it. He tries to get the jury back on topic, but Gordon starts another argument with June; he's upset that she published a very negative review of his work. Giles calms the situation by suggesting everyone have a break. Clive again tries to get Gordon interested in his script, but Gordon isn't impressed.

Jackie asks about June's job, causing June to conlude she is dissatisfied; she doesn't have any input in the creative process. Giles calls out Paula on not watching any of the performances but she cuts him off. The jury reconvenes, and it's decided to remove Anna from the list of nominees. Clive pushes to also rule out Shona, since he feels she wins too many awards just on her name as a star. This leaves Kelly and Dorothy as the final two candidates, but the jury is evenly split. Paula wants to change her vote so she can leave in a hurry, so the jury argue again, everyone now deciding they want to change their votes. Gordon yells at Clive and flatly refuses to have anything to do with his script. Rupert humiliates Jackie, who bursts into tears and says she is not experienced enough to give an opinion. She decides to leave.

Gordon hands out electronic voting devices. The remaining jury members quickly cast their votes and leave. Jackie returns, saying she forgot her phone; and Giles apologises for the way the others treated her. He refuses to tell her who was voted as the winner, but says that her influence helped the jury decide to vote with their hearts rather than their heads. When he leaves, Jackie removes fake eyebrows and a wig, revealing that she is Kelly Marsden in disguise. She says, "No, Giles. It's because ''I'm'' the best actress." She looks at the board, where Kelly's photo is the only one left, revealing her as the winner.
