* TravelingAtTheSpeedOfPlot: Zuko. Where Azula has her train... car [[BuffySpeak thing]], all Zuko has is an ostrich-horse, and he still manages to catch up with everyone at the end.

* VillainOverForDinner: When she leaves the camp, Toph happens upon Iroh, and they share some tea and give each other advice. Subverted in that Iroh is actually pretty nice, and not really a villain at all.

* AllYourPowersCombined: The Gaang and Zuko combining all their elements in one last ditch attack against Azula. Formerly provided the page image for ElementalPowers.

* ImplacableMan: Azula really comes off as one in this episode.

* ConflictBall: Katara spends a lot of the episode needlessly antagonising Toph for not being a team-player, even when it's clear Toph tends to retaliate physically.

* ISurrenderSuckers: When Team Avatar, Zuko, and Iroh has Azula surrounded, she surrenders, but when Iroh lets his guard down and turns to see his new friend, Toph, standing with Aang and the gang, Azula takes advantage of this and fires at him.

* KickTheDog:
** A badly sleep-deprived Katara makes a crack about Toph's blindness when tensions start boiling over.
** Azula shoots Iroh with fire right after saying she surrendered.
** Toph blaming Appa for the gang's predicament, and earlier pushing Sokka's buttons on not being as competent a fighter as the rest of the kids due to his lack of bending.

** The Avatar Extras call back to this joke. "This is the first time we've seen all four elements attacking at once." A beat later, it adds, "...Plus Sokka."

* EnemyMine: Zuko works alongside the Avatar for the first time in the series (not counting his [[Recap/AvatarTheLastAirbenderTheBlueSpirit earlier Blue Spirit stint]]). Well, sort of. He does spend most of the fight attacking Aang ''and'' Azula in equal measure. By the end of the fight it's all five bender protagonists vs Azula, and she still pulls off a draw.

* EnemyMine: Zuko works alongside the Avatar for the first time in the series (not counting his [[Recap/AvatarTheLastAirbenderTheBlueSpirit earlier Blue Spirit stint]]). Well, sort of. He does spend most of the fight attacking Aang ''and'' Azula in equal measure.

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Aang can't help but laugh when Azula mentions Zuko's EmbarassingNickname: Zuzu.

* NoSell: In the otherwise [[CurbStompBattle one sided battle]], Ty Lee tries to disable Sokka's head for no effect.
