* Creator/CrispinFreeman, with his gruff and unmistakably badass voice, is mostly cast in roles as an intimidating and/or incredibly badass characters. While he has recently taken on many less intimidating roles in which his voice isn't gruff in the slightest (to the point of doing a convincing Creator/OrlandoBloom impression for playing Will Turner in most video games based on or featuring ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean''), he is most known for such characters as Alucard from ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'', Albedo from ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}'', Albel from ''VideoGame/StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime'', Itachi from ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', Holland from ''Anime/EurekaSeven'', Rude from ''Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren'', Regal in ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'', Baldur in ''VideoGame/TooHuman'', Overlord Zetta in ''VideoGame/MakaiKingdom'', Heat in ''VideoGame/DigitalDevilSaga'', Siegfried in ''[[VideoGame/SoulSeries SoulCalibur 3]]'', Red Arrow in ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'', and Electro in ''WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan.''
** He's also placed as a normal/straight man in extraordinary circumstances: Kyon in ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'', Togusa in the ''Anime/GhostInTheShell'' series, and a journalist in ''VideoGame/HitmanBloodMoney''. Also, ironically enough, Zelgadis in ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}'', despite him looking the weirdest, is also often the OnlySaneMan.
** Creator/CrispinFreeman has also been cast in the "Dark, Quiet, Brooding Goth Guy" role: Haji in ''Anime/BloodPlus'' and Amon in ''Anime/WitchHunterRobin''.
*** And Karasu from ''Anime/{{Noein}}'', Alex Rowe from ''Anime/LastExile'', Fuuma from ''Manga/{{X1999}}'', Nigredo from ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}'', Tsume from ''Anime/WolfsRain'', round out his dark, brooding, cool guy schtick. He should have played Genosuke in ''Manga/{{Basilisk}}'' and Zagato from ''Manga/MagicKnightRayearth''. They would have been perfect for him.
*** Creator/CrispinFreeman tends to gravitate to either a raging sociopath voice, like Albel in ''VideoGame/StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime'', or the calm, voice of reason (like with Kyon). Also, note that in ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}'', he plays both Albedo AND Negredo: so in ''Xenosaga Episode II'', he [[TalkingToHimself talks to himself]]. To top it off, in ''Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War'', he actually pulls off both over the course of the game as Captain Hamilton.
*** Thanks to Straight Cougar in ''Anime/{{Scryed}}'' and Jeremiah in ''Anime/CodeGeass'', he's now a LargeHam as well.
*** He's also Fire Leo from the ''VideoGame/ViewtifulJoe'' cartoon. That's a pretty big difference from [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Alucard]], [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Itachi]], or most of his characters.
* Creator/DomDeluise often plays a nice and innocent (or at least, one with a set of morals that means well), bumbling non-human supporting character. Said character is usually a SicklyNeuroticGeek.
* [[Creator/CheechAndChong Cheech Marin]] is known for playing hyperactive, loudmouthed Hispanics. The best examples are Tito in ''WesternAnimation/OliverAndCompany'', Banzai in ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994'', and Ramone in ''Cars''. Most of his roles are reminiscent of his character in Creator/CheechAndChong.
* Creator/JenniferHale plays mostly {{Action Girl}}s in video games, such as Junko Zane from ''VideoGame/{{Freelancer}}'', ComicBook/SilverSable in ''VideoGame/UltimateSpiderMan'' and ''VideoGame/SpiderManShatteredDimensions'', the female version of Commander Shepard from ''Franchise/MassEffect'' and of Jaden Korr from ''[[VideoGame/DarkForcesSaga Jedi Academy]]'', Bastila in ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'', Prier in ''VideoGame/LaPucelle'', Sheena in ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'', the ComicBook/ScarletWitch in ''VideoGame/XMenLegends II: Rise of the Apocalypse'', and Alexandra Roivas from ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness''. An exception would be Xel'otath, the Ancient from this same game, or Fall-From-Grace from ''VideoGame/PlanescapeTorment'' (though Fall-From-Grace is still a intelligent and capable woman). She's also [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Samus]]. Oh, and both June the bounty hunter and Avatar [[LadyOfWar Kyoshi]] from ''{{WesternAnimation/Avatar|TheLastAirbender}}''.
** Hale also voiced the Julia Carpenter ComicBook/SpiderWoman in ''WesternAnimation/IronMan: The Animated Series'', Black Cat in the '90s ''Spider-Man'', ComicBook/{{Zatanna}} in ''[[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague Justice League Unlimited]]'', Comicbook/MsMarvel in ''WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes'', etc.
** She was also Mallory from ''WesternAnimation/TheMightyDucks'' cartoon.
** And Jessie Bannon in the second season of ''WesternAnimation/JonnyQuestTheRealAdventures''. Yeah, ActionGirl is pretty much her schtick.
** Some notable exceptions include Ms. Keane in ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls''[[note]]To make up for it, she also voices [[SpoiledBrat Princess Morebucks]] and [[BeautyIsBad Sedusa]] from the same show, both of who ''are'' action girls.[[/note]], and Disney's current voice of Cinderella.
** Played to type in ''VideoGame/PN03'' with the main character Vanessa Z. Schneider and flipped with the client [[spoiler:who is a clone of the main character]].
** She is also apparently the only person allowed to voice [[Franchise/TheDCU Killer]] [[AnIcePerson Frost]].
** [[Franchise/MetalGear Naomi Hunter and Emma Emmerich]] are fairly different from the action girl pigeonhole. Ironically the former was one of her earlier famous roles.
* Creator/JohnDiMaggio pretty much just has [[GutturalGrowler the one voice]], that comes with a pitch dial with three settings on it: [[VideoGame/GearsOfWar Marcus]], [[WesternAnimation/KimPossible Drakken]], and [[WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}} Bender]]. These three pitches usually get used for similar characters: the badass, the incompetent villain, and the laid-back hedonistic guy, respectively.
* Creator/GaryChalk, whose most notable voice work has been as Optimus Prime/Primal in many of the ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'' series, tends to play authoritative, military, or police roles (Such as the Russian Colonel in ''Series/StargateSG1''). He has played other roles, however, and his live action career is somewhat broader.

** Opposite him was Creator/DavidKaye though, who was nearly EVERY Megatron and Galvatron in English Transformers series until ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'' in which he was Optimus Prime.
* Speaking of ''Transformers'', Creator/PeterCullen, who is most remembered as the voice of Optimus Prime in the first animated series, is so strongly associated with the role, fans actually successfully petitioned for him to reprise the role in the 2007 live-action movie. It also happens to be one of his two favorite roles, the other being [[Franchise/WinnieThePooh Eeyore]]. He's also done work in other series, such as ''Anime/{{Voltron}}'', and was the main announcer for ''Creator/{{Toonami}}''.
** Likewise, Creator/FrankWelker (see below for additional roles), as a consolation to fans when a similar petition could not overcome the awesome that was Hugo Weaving's voice, reprised the role of Megatron for the movie's video-game incarnations. He's also the voice actor for Soundwave, another character he voiced in the original animated series, in the sequel.
* Creator/DougErholtz provides the English voice of ''Gin Ichimaru'' in the anime adaptation of ''[[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manga/Bleach Bleach]]'', as well as ''Hazama'' from the ''Franchise/BlazBlue'' fighting game series, and the resemblance between the two is more than on the nose. They share a near identical hairstyle, snake-like facial expression, and both service the role of a playfull [[TheTrickster trickster]] antagonist known for feining alturism and innocence to scheme his way to power across thier respective stories.
* Creator/PatrickWarburton's another American example. His deep, burly voice means that he makes the perfect voice for a muscle-bound type, many of whom are quite [[DumbMuscle moronic]]. In an unusual twist, Warburton is also able to play these types in live action as well (see ''Series/TheTick2001'', for example), since he is tall, fit, and quite muscular. See him as Kronk in ''WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove'', Brock Sampson on ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers'', Mr. Steve Barkin on ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'', or Joe on ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy''.
** It was fans of the original TV series who decided he should play Hymie in the ''Get Smart'' movie.
* Creator/MarkHamill, in contrast to his live-action typecasting as ingenue heroes like [[Franchise/StarWars Luke Skywalker]] and [[VideoGame/WingCommander "Maverick" Blair]], has been typecast in animation as a player of deranged villains like ComicBook/TheJoker, whom he portrayed masterfully in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' and ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamCity''. In one interview, he jokingly remarked that he wanted to be on more shows like ''Franchise/HelloKitty'' or ''Franchise/StrawberryShortcake'', but always gets cast as "creepy villains or old degenerates".
** He also voiced Musuka, the power-mad government agent, in the English dub of ''Anime/CastleInTheSky''.
** Other roles includes such {{Big Bad}}s as the Skeleton King in ''WesternAnimation/SuperRobotMonkeyTeamHyperForceGo'', Fire Lord Ozai in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'', and Adrian Ripburger in ''VideoGame/FullThrottle''.
** Don't forget Solomon Grundy and the Trickster in ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'' (he was actually reprising the Trickster from the live-action series ''Series/{{The Flash|1990}}''), and Stickybeard in ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'', and a ton of other stuff.
** Also Mr. Selatcia in ''WesternAnimation/{{Metalocalypse}}''.
** He was also Majima in the American release of ''Videogame/{{Yakuza}}''.
** Hamill also voiced the Hobgoblin in ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'', and Maximus the Mad in ''WesternAnimation/FantasticFour''.
** Played the deranged mad scientist Klaw in ''WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes'', but he at least got to do a German accent.
** Averted somewhat with one of his roles in ''WesternAnimation/{{Metalocalypse}}'', Jean-Pierre, a chef sewn back together wrong.
** Converted into a live action pigeonholing in Creator/KevinSmith's ''Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack'', where he played the super-villain Cock-Knocker.
** This may now be somewhat self-afflicted; judging by his cameo as himself playing Luke Skywalker in the ''WesternAnimation/RobotChicken'' ''Franchise/StarWars'' special, years of playing raspy-voiced villains (plus natural aging) have made his voice permanently rough and sandpapery.
** Skips in ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow''.
** Master Eraqus from ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'', anyone?
** Pyro, the psychotic leader of the Elemental Masks in ''VideoGame/CrashBandicootTheWrathOfCortex''.
** His performance as The Watcher in ''Videogame/{{Darksiders}}'' was just a rehash of his Joker voice.
* Creator/KevinConroy, who will ''[[IAmNotSpock always]]'' be known as the voice of Franchise/{{Batman}}. He's not complaining. Then again, who ''wouldn't'' want to be instantly recognized as The Goddamn Batman?[[note]][[RhetoricalQuestionBlunder Bruce Wayne, probably]].[[/note]]
* Creator/TimCurry usually provides the voice for villains, with the exception of [[WesternAnimation/TheWildThornberrys Nigel Thornberry]] and VideoGame/GabrielKnight (twice). An example is [[ShallowParody Ben Ravencroft]] from ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooAndTheWitchsGhost'' . This probably stems from the fact that [[Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow his most famous role was as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.]] If said villain gets a VillainSong, expect them to commit another crime by ''stealing the show''.
** Then again, he was Princess Sally's father, King Maximilian in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM''.

* Similarily, Creator/ClancyBrown is known for being typecast as iniquitous characters. His best-known portrayal is probably ComicBook/LexLuthor of the Franchise/{{DCAU}} and Long Feng in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'', as well as the more lovably greedy Mr. Krabs of ''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants''. He, too, can pull this off in live-action, as his performance in ''Film/TheShawshankRedemption'' will attest.

** In ''WesternAnimation/TransformersPrime'', he plays Silas, the cruel and cold leader of MECH, who seems obsessed with cutting up Transformers.
** However, he's also voiced [[WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures Captain Black]] and, more recently, [[WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan Captain George Stacy]], who are [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure anything]] ''but'' iniquitous. Averted in a somewhat cool way in ''WesternAnimation/MortalKombatDefendersOfTheRealm'', in which he voiced Raiden - a role that had been played in TheMovie by Creator/ChristopherLambert.

* Many of Creator/GreyDeLisle's characters are notably similar, often cast as some form of bitchy teenager, ranging from the bossy and overbearing (Mandy from ''WesternAnimation/TheGrimAdventuresOfBillyAndMandy'') to the sociopathic (Azula from ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'') to the flat-out criminally insane (Vicky from ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents''). [=DeLisle=] herself has said this is contrary to how she thinks of herself as "a sweet pollyanna type", a role she finally got to play in ''VideoGame/BaldursGate 2'' with Nalia de'Arnise, although she also played DarkMagicalGirl Viconia [=deVir=]. She also plays [[WesternAnimation/XiaolinShowdown Kimiko]].
** While Nalia could be considered "sweet", she's undoubtedly also a bitchy teenager. A ''rich'' bitchy teenager. Still, she means well, which is more than can be said for most other characters Grey [=DeLisle=] plays...
** In WesternAnimation/EvilConCarne, Major Doctor Ghastly is somewhat evil but very sweet.
** Of course, in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' she also plays Roku's wife and ''Katara and Sokka's mom''.
*** She does play the bitchy, nymphomaniac party-girl Jeanette and her straight-A counterpart Therese in ''VideoGame/VampireTheMasqueradeBloodlines''...
** Subversion, [[WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom Sam Manson]] is a goth. Despite outside appearances, goth girls are nice, {{perky|Goth}}, and fun.
** Another subversion, [[WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends Frankie Foster]] is pretty nice and sweet, she just has her patience tested by living in the freakshow that is Foster's.
** She played Lor [=McQuarry=] in ''WesternAnimation/TheWeekenders'', who started off overbearing and insensitive but later toned down to simply competitive and rather ditzy.
** An '''aversion''' - [=DeLisle=] also voices Wubbzy of ''WesternAnimation/WowWowWubbzy.''
** And a complete aversion when she does sweet, kind-hearted could-do-no-wrong Emily Elizabeth in ''Literature/CliffordTheBigRedDog''.
** It's safe to say that she has 3 main voice types: the bitchy teenage girl, the sweet/annoying kid, and the strong villainess.
** Averted when she played Penny's Mom in ''WesternAnimation/{{Bolt}}'', whose voice's wholesome, motherly qualities rival those of Laurie Metcalf in ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory''.
** Frida from ''WesternAnimation/ElTigre'' is a subversion. She may be a delinquent, but she's one of the good guys.
** She voiced [[WesternAnimation/TUFFPuppy Kitty Katswell]], who is nice and sweet. She's just angry over at stupid things [[DogsAreDumb Dudley]] would do.
** Voicing the female BountyHunter in ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'', this is played completely straight with rude/Dark-side dialogue options. [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] if you play Light-side, where, while still killing people for money, becomes a HitmanWithAHeart.
** Catwoman from ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamCity'' counts on this as well.
*** Black Canary in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold''; she even gets to sing in the MusicalEpisode
* Creator/KeithDavid usually plays monstrous/alien/conniving characters with a [[BadassBaritone deep]] [[EvilSoundsDeep voice]], such as Goliath from ''{{WesternAnimation/Gargoyles}}'', the title character of ''{{WesternAnimation/Spawn}}'', and The Arbiter from ''{{Franchise/Halo}}''. He also does excellent narration.

** Although partially averted in ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}''; he also played Wheeljack and Sparkplug Witwicky and the heroic Gung Ho in ''Franchise/GIJoe''.
* Six words: Special Vocal Effects by Creator/FrankWelker. Pick a monster/alien/animal, and if it doesn't [[TheUnintelligible talk comprehensibly]], there's a good chance he did it.
** Welker is so completely ubiquitous that in a commentary track for the ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond'' [=DVDs=], the sound effects for a dog in one episode were initially attributed to him before the crew remembered that for that episode they used a recording of an actual dog.
** And of course he's the voice of Fred in ''Franchise/ScoobyDoo''.

In ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' he voices all of the animals in the show, from [[TeamPet a flying lemur]] to [[NonHumanSidekick a giant flying bison]]. Also a [[strike:hippie]] "nomad".

** However, this also extends to non-human characters that ''can'' speak, which includes the Gravemind from ''VideoGame/{{Halo}}'', Klaus (a goldfish with a human brain) from ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'', pretty much every male non-human in ''WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}}'' (except Blunk and Thynar; they were both Creator/SteveBlum), and Olmec the giant talking animatronic Olmec head on ''Series/LegendsOfTheHiddenTemple'' (where he's also the announcer, playing against type). He's also done human roles that vary wildly from the titular character of ''VideoGame/ViewtifulJoe'' to Numbuh 4 from ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor''.

** In a ''Franchise/StarWars'' special on E!, a comedian said that when watching ''Return of the Jedi'', he got shocked that Darth Vader, that seemed to be a huge black man with that armor and voice, was actually white.
** And if James Earl Jones isn't available, there's always Creator/KeithDavid. He even [[PoorMansSubstitute replaced Jones]] as [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Mufasa]] in ''WesternAnimation/HouseOfMouse''.

* Voice actress Creator/MonicaRial is well-known for her work for Creator/ADVFilms, where she has accumulated a resume filled with quiet, withdrawn or depressed girls with soft, high-pitched, whispery voices, such as [[Anime/{{Noir}} Kirika]], [[Anime/SteelAngelKurumi Saki]], [[Anime/NajicaBlitzTactics Lila]], and [[Anime/PaniPoniDash Rokugou]].
** {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d in an audio commentary for ''Anime/KidouTenshiAngelicLayer'', where she [[PlayingAgainstType was cast against type]] as a GenkiGirl. Her recent work with Creator/{{Funimation}} on ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'' also cast her against type in ''three'' roles, with Konoka's high-pitched exuberance, Kazumi's brassy near-Valley Girl, and stolid Yotsuba's lower, slower tones. She can also pull out more tomboyish roles, like the tough kunoichi Okoi in ''Manga/{{Basilisk}}''.
*** Complete subversion in her role as Jo in ''Anime/BurstAngel''.
** Her roles as Ai from ''Shin Chan'' and Momoka from ''Manga/SgtFrog'' adds the RichBitch SpoiledBrat types to her resume as well. Not to mention her role as [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair Bulma]] from ''Anime/DragonBallKai''.
** As of lately, Monica seems to be adding {{stalker|WithACrush}}s and [[{{Yandere}} creepy girls]] to her list as well. (''Manga/BlackCat'', ''Manga/BambooBlade'', ''Anime/OriginSpiritsOfThePast'', ''Manga/AxisPowersHetalia'', ''Manga/SgtFrog'' etc.) She actually alludes to this in DVD commentary for ''Manga/SoulEater'' ("For once I'm not playing the insane person.")
* As noted above, some voice actors get stuck in roles similar to their live action personas. Three examples:
** The late Phil Harris played essentially the same role in Franchise/{{Disney|AnimatedCanon}}'s ''WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook1967'', ''WesternAnimation/TheAristocats'', and ''WesternAnimation/RobinHood''. Creator/WaltDisney picked him for Baloo after watching him singing live- his live acts very much depended on his on-camera personality.
** The same can be said about the late Eva Gabor, who co-starred with Harris in ''The Aristocats'' and went on to play a similar role in ''WesternAnimation/TheRescuers''.
** A more recent example: Creator/GilbertGottfried the [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} parrot]].
* Terrence Stone is seemingly on this track. His two most recent VA roles are Mayuri Kurotsuchi in ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'' and a similarly voiced alien (down to the same mannerisms) in a recent Gamestop commercial.
* Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson usually voices really really big guys, usually in a fantasy or sci-fi setting, and often with a hint of the ScaryBlackMan. Examples include Sarevok of ''VideoGame/BaldursGate'', most of the villains of ''VideoGame/ViewtifulJoe'', Captain Gantu from ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'', and ''many'' different characters in ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack''. However, he played that great salvation of every voice actor, ComicBook/TheJoker, on ''WesternAnimation/TheBatman'', and also did a fair showing as [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] OldMaster Jolee Bindo in ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic''.
** Lobo from ''WebAnimation/LoboWebseries''.
** Trigon in ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' and the lion-turtle in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender''.
*** Also Chairman Drek in ''Franchise/RatchetAndClank'' and Jabba the Hutt in ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars''.
*** Then again, he was also Antauri from ''WesternAnimation/SuperRobotMonkeyTeamHyperForceGo'' which is definitely a change of pace from his usual characters.
*** [[WesternAnimation/{{Thundercats2011}} And now he's Panthro.]]
* Creator/KathSoucie pretty much has 3 types of roles she plays: The typical Mother (and a hot one at that), the cute girl, and the bratty little boy. She can voice a whole family if she wants, in fact, she DID in ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'', playing twin brother and sister Phil and Lil as well as their mother, Betty. Nonetheless, it's still not hard to tell all three are done by her.
** This is averted on ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}'' where [[WordOfGod Greg Weisman]] said that she voices over 100 characters. All of the main ones she did are completely different from on another.
** Don't forget Amanda Evert from ''Tomb Raider Legend'' or Marjolaine (using a fake French accent) from ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'', both of which are slight aversions to her usual character types..
* Creator/JimCummings is easily recognized as the deep voice on virtually every Disney production since the 1980s. He voiced Pete from ''WesternAnimation/GoofTroop'', Negaduck and the titular character from ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'', Rasoul the guard from ''Aladdin'', the centaur ''Nessus'' and the Fat Thebian from ''Hercules'', and is the voice of both Tigger and Franchise/WinnieThePooh.
** His portrayal of [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Robotnik]] in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'' sounded like he enacted his name on everything he said.
** Debatable, since - as some of the above examples show - Jim Cummings is used for high, wacky voices (''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'', [[WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers Professor Nimnul]]) just as often as he is used for deep, gravelly ones. He ''does'' seem to be Disney's go-to voice for Generic Foreigner, Generic Guard, and Generic Foreigner Guard, though.
** Outside of Disney, however, Cummings is renown for a wide range of voices, shown in such variable characters as enthusiastic BoisterousBruiser Minsc from the ''VideoGame/BaldursGate'' series to snobbish DimensionLord Thrakkorzog on ''WesternAnimation/TheTick''. He is used very often in Creator/DreamWorks' animated films, usually as extras or a minor scripted character.
*** The current voice of [[WesternAnimation/TheLooneyTunesShow Taz]], which he reprises from ''WesternAnimation/TazMania''.
** What Disney film is Cummings ''not'' in? Seriously... He does tons of background voices, and he's also [[WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog Ray]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Ed]]. Disney's got Cummings on Speed Dial.
*** At at a panel at [=ConnectiCon=] 2013, Cummings actually made a comment[=/=]joke that yes, he is basically on Disney's speed dial. And they happen to have a habit of calling him at 3 in the morning.
** See also the Terror Mask in the new ''VideoGame/{{Splatterhouse}}'', which combines his recognizable deep voice with a healthy dose of [[ClusterFBomb profane expletives]].
** Wanna see how versatile his voice is? Look no further than his role as the Master in ''VideoGame/{{Fallout|1}}'', for which he provided three of its four voices: it's "normal" voice, a computer-ish sounding voice, and his well-known villainous voice.
** With domestic violence and animal abuse allegations surfacing after one too many dustups with his ex-wife, Cummings's career may be in peril, but Disney has thus far kept quiet about it and appears to have opted to take a wait-and-see approach in his case. It seems to help him both that he and his ex-wife successfully obtained restraining orders against each other almost as quickly as the allegations arose, a situation Disney could be watching closely to see who blinks first, and that the last time Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn [[Creator/JamesGunn fired someone for sexual misconduct so quickly]], it caused a major backlash even among feminists.
* Not the 80s yet, and you need a deep voice? Thurl Ravenscroft. It's a toss-up whether he's best known for supplying the voice of Kellogs' Tony the Tiger for decades, or from ''one song'': "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". He and his group the Mellomen also did a lot of the choral singing in Disney cartoons (and rides ... if you've ever thought the bass in "Grim Grinning Ghosts", the song at the end of Disney's Haunted Mansion ride, sounds a lot like Tony the Tiger, you now know why).
* An example crossed with IAmNotSpock: Yeardley Smith, who plays Lisa on ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons,'' has an instantly recognisable voice, which is why whenever she plays another character on ''The Simpsons'' (making her one of the only actors one the series who doesn't) it gets lampshaded (cf. "Missionary Impossible," when Homer befriends an Islander girl who looks and sounds like Lisa, and "The Last Tap Dance In Springfield," when Lisa watches that Spanish dancing movie and the girl Eduardo picks is a HotLibrarian named Lisabella). She also voiced one of the telekinetic kids in the remastered version of ''Manga/{{Akira}}''. It's impossible to escape the fact that she sounds exactly like Lisa.
** This was referred to briefly in an episode of ''[[Series/HermansHead Herman's Head]]'', when her character Louise angrily hung up on someone and then demanded to know from her coworkers if she really sounded like "that girl from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''."
** Oddly, Julie Kavner almost never plays any ''Simpsons'' characters besides Marge and her immediate family members (i.e., her twin sisters Patty and Selma, her mom, and her deceased great-aunt Gladys from "Selma's Choice". Marge's father [who only appeared in "The Way We Was" and "Fear of Flying"] was voiced by Creator/HankAzaria), who all have the same gravelly voice at different pitches. It's odd because Kavner's real voice sounds nothing like that and she could easily play different-sounding characters if she chose.
* Creator/YuriLowenthal is often typecast into KidHero roles such as, ''[[WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce Ben Tennyson]]'', ''[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Simon]]'', ''[[LightNovel/KyoKaraMaoh Yuri Shibuya]]'' and ''[[WesternAnimation/LegionOfSuperHeroes Superboy]]''. However, like many English voice actors, he does have a bit of flexibility. [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Sasuke Uchiha]] and [[Anime/CodeGeass Suzaku]] are well known characters that are ''not'' kid hero roles.
** Also angsty roles that require him to scream from the absolute bottom of his lungs. Sasuke Uchiha, Ben Tennyson, Suzaku Kururugi, [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV Cecil]]... Probably the absolute biggest example is Haseo from ''.Hack//G.U''
*** "Come on.. Come on... I'm right here.... '''''[[SkywardScream SKEEEEIIIIIIIIIIITTTHHHH!!]]'''''"
*** ''Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'', where not only did he pull off a foreign accent he pulled off the accent of an Iranian taught English by the English!
*** Also sort of broke the mold by voicing ''Persona 4'''s Yosuke Hanamura, a generally normal (if not slightly awkward and goofy) high school student who ends up becoming [[TheLancer the hero's right hand man]] as the game progresses.
*** And in ''Persona 3'', where he [[CallingYourAttacks Calls Out Attacks]] for the otherwise HeroicMime Protagonist, and also voiced Ryoji and CreepyChild Pharos [[spoiler: and it's not a coincidence]].
*** He broke the mold again when he voiced {{Cloudcuckoolander}} [[BackAlleyDoctor Underground Doctor]] Shinra Kishitani in LightNovel/{{Durarara}}!!.
*** He also voiced Rubirules in the web series {{WebAnimation/Tome}} Though energetic, comical and charismatic he still voices a level headed adult [[spoiler: he also ends up being the main Villain of the series showing off his range of emotion]].
* Creator/ScottMcNeil is a good voice actor, but he really has two major voices, exemplified by [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Duo Maxwell]] (high-pitched and cocky with a bit of a rasp, usually for younger characters) and [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars Dinobot]] (Deep, with a lot of growls and/or snarls, perfect for more inhuman ones). His roles usually shift somewhere between the two. (Arguably, he has a third sub-voice, "Piccolo", but that's really Dinobot with more of a rasp than a snarl). To be fair, it's a cool voice.
** Two notable exceptions are Waspinator and Silverbolt, also from ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars''. And Waspy does not use flanging. I've heard the man do it cold.
*** Then you have Lord Bale ([[MemeticMutation SSSSINDRIIII!!]]) and Lord Firraveus Carron of the ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}}'' Dawn of War games, which have been described as "Evil Dinobots"
** Since his most used character on ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars'' was Rattrap (A Duo-style voice), Mr. [=McNeil=] spent more then one episode essentially talking to himself, as Rattrap was often paired with [[KnightInShiningArmor Silverbolt]] or [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Dinobot]]. The recording sessions must have been entertaining to watch.
*** There's a sound clip floating around the net where he gleefully rattles through his Duo, all his voices from ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars'', a couple of other characters from various shows, and the ''X-Men Evolution'' version of {{Wolverine}} (Which is kinda like Piccolo, but not as raspy) in about two minutes flat. It's a thing of beauty indeed.
** Then there's Hack and Specky of ''WesternAnimation/ReBoot''; Jeice (Duo with a Brit accent), Tao, South Kai and Buu of ''Anime/DragonBallZ''; Suezo, Grey Wolf, Naga, and Gali of ''Anime/MonsterRancher''; Principal Kuno of ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf''; Pelvis and Blokk (Dinobot with an German accent) of ''Shadow Raiders''; Stratos (Silverbolt) and Ram-man of ''He-Man and the Masters of the Universe''; Vulture of ''Spider-Man Unlimited'' - none of which sound mildly alike (really, the list goes on).
** That and in the animated version of ''Ben-hur'' he was '''JESUS'''.
** In the ''WesternAnimation/MegaMan'' cartoon, his Proto Man voice was essentially Duo, but his Dr. Wily voice was a bit different. It was vaguely like Dinobot, but it was lower in pitch and he put on a German accent.
** He also voiced [[WesternAnimation/DragonBooster Cain]] and [[WesternAnimation/JohnnyTest Mr. White]]
** In One Piece, he got to play Gold Lion Shiki, who he made sound like an African warlord.
* Creator/RinoRomano tends to play suave, sexy Hispanics, such as the inexplicably Mexican [[Franchise/ResidentEvil Luis Sera]], the future man [[WesternAnimation/EvilConCarne Destructicus Con Carne]], or the charming hacker Randy Hernandez on ''WesternAnimation/GodzillaTheSeries''. Of course, he's also ''WesternAnimation/TheBatman'', and did Franchise/SpiderMan in ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManUnlimited'' and many video games.
** And now he's Lone Starr in the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Film/{{Spaceballs}}'', who is none of those things.
* If a character is large and slimy, there's a good chance he's Creator/RonPerlman.
** Except for [[WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom Mr. Lancer]]
** And [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Slade]] isn't especially... large. Or slimy. Unless you mean metaphorically.
** The same could be said for [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Fire Lord Sozin]]. And ''Hellboy'' (who [[WesternAnimation/HellboyAnimated he voices]] ''and'' [[Film/Hellboy2004 plays in live action]]) who's large, but not slimy. Really the only Perlman voice character that would count as slimy is [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries Clayface]].
*** I think "slimy" is meant here in the personality sense, not the literal sense. Slade and Sozin are as slimy as you can get.
** Of course, the whole point is that [[VideoGame/{{Fallout}} war never changes]], [[{{Pun}} right]]?
* Carrying over from his typecasting in live-action roles, Creator/RLeeErmey still tends to play DrillSergeantNasty characters in animated roles.
* Creator/ChristopherSabat is usually cast as more gruff roles like Zoro in ''Manga/OnePiece'', Giroro in ''Sgt. Frog'', Alex Louis Armstrong in ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'', and most notable, Piccolo and Vegeta in ''Anime/DragonBallZ''.
** His exceptions to this are Yamcha, Jeice, and Burter in DBZ, the latter of which sounds similar to his Vegeta voice.
*** In a behind-the-scenes video for ''VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokai 3'', Chris Sabat explains that as the ADR Director, he's done all the voices for the actors to mimic.
* Creator/RichardIanCox is frequently cast as action-oriented, impetuous, somewhat jerky male characters, including the second Ranma Saotome in ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'', the title character of ''Manga/InuYasha'', Quicksilver in ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution'', and Bit Cloud in ''Anime/ZoidsNewCentury''.
* Got a GenkiGirl with a sharp, upbeat voice? That's Creator/LaraJillMiller for you.
* Creator/CreeSummer tends to end up in the "feisty" roles for black females (''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor, WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom, WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}/WesternAnimation/AllGrownUp''). Or the BlackBestFriend. Or sometimes females of different colors, such as Comicbook/SheHulk.
** How is Princess Kida feisty?
** Also [[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Hyena]] is much more AxCrazy than feisty.
** And she ended up lampshading her typecasting in phenomenal fashion on ''WesternAnimation/DrawnTogether'', probably her best voice work ever.
** Though ironically, two of her most famous voice roles, those of Penny on ''WesternAnimation/InspectorGadget'' and Elmyra on ''Tiny Toon Adventures'', were both white characters.
** She gets to reprise the feisty role as Blackarachnia in ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated''. And she's black (well, her armour plating is).
** She also did the feisty Cleo in ''Literature/CliffordTheBigRedDog'' using a voice similar to her Foxxy Love voice. If you watched ''WesternAnimation/DrawnTogether'' before watching Clifford, be prepared for {{Narm}}. Same for ''WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot'' wit Tiff Crust.
* Miss Kittie ends up in the role for "sassy" black females (''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong'', ''WesternAnimation/TheBoondocks'', ''BET'''s ''Cita's World''). She did get to play against type in ''[[WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}} W.I.T.C.H.]]'' as the shy genius girl Taranee.
* Creator/HilaryHaag tends to voice a lot of young or young-sounding girls -- Becky in ''Anime/PaniPoniDash'', Milk in ''Super Milk Chan'', Seth in ''LightNovel/TrinityBlood'', Ume in ''Manga/AirGear'', Puchiko in ''Anime/DiGiCharat'', etc. But she's also been known to voice trolls (''Manga/SorcererStabberOrphen''), dogs (''Anime/ExcelSaga''), and normal adult women (Nene in ''Anime/BubblegumCrisis 2040'').
* Arthur Q. Bryan's roles in ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' shorts typically [[ElmuhFuddSyndwome sounded like Elmer Fudd]], like the title character in "WesternAnimation/DangerousDanMcFoo" and the narrator in "WesternAnimation/NuttyNews". In fact, the only time he used his natural voice was as the annoyed, sleep-deprived customer in "WesternAnimation/sAPestInTheHouse" (who was essentially a caricature of Bryan).
** Some of Creator/MelBlanc's voices, [[ManOfAThousandVoices despite his famous title]], tend so sound similar.
* Creator/LuciChristian tends to do a lot of {{action girl}}s in dubs... to the point where it's probably best to say that one of the only exceptions is her turn as Dejiko in ''Anime/DiGiCharat''. She also does young boys, such as Sasshi in ''Anime/MagicalShoppingArcadeAbenobashi''. Mind you that [[ManOfAThousandVoices she does have a wide vocal range]]- she can basically be convincing as ''any type of female character and every kind of little boy''--''Manga/BirdyTheMighty: Decode'' really gave her a workout! One of the reasons she is used so often in anime is because she can nail a character's voice after hearing ''only a few seconds of footage of the Japanese, with no effort.''
** She was also the voice of Duck/Princess Tutu in ''Anime/PrincessTutu'', so she definitely has her moments of evading the ActionGirl character role every so often.
* Do you need a voice for a small, cute, sidekick type character? Well look no further than Creator/BrinaPalencia who's known for doing many CrossdressingVoices like [[Manga/DragonBall Chaotzu]], [[Manga/OnePiece Chopper]], and [[Manga/SgtFrog Tamama]]. At this rate, she might end up being the next Creator/MonaMarshall, [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools although that's not necessarily a bad thing.]]
* When it comes to game voices, look no further than Creator/CharlesMartinet. Since he's been hired as [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario's]] voice, he's never really done much else than voicing Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, their baby counterparts and occasionally someone else. Okay, that's not completely true, he also voiced some completely unrelated characters in other games (just as ''Franchise/StarWars''), but the vast majority of his work is Mario and Crew. Not that he seems to mind.
* Creator/LeahClark usually voices either cute {{valley girl}}s or nerdy young boys. Her valley girls include Blair from ''Manga/SoulEater'' and Marron from ''Anime/DragonBallZ''. Her nerdy young boys include Coby in ''Manga/OnePiece'' and Fuyuki in ''Manga/SgtFrog''.
* Also ''The Voice of God'', the late [[http://www.donlafontaine.com Don LaFontaine]] -- 5,000 movie trailers and nearly 350,000 commercials; the most successful Voice Actor of all time. (The ''"InAWorld... where (X) verbs (Y)... one man... will verb."'' guy.)
** [[Creator/DonLaFontaine LaFontaine's]] distinctive voice was {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in an early trailer for ''Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'':

* Need your English production to have a good ButtMonkey? Look no further than Creator/SpikeSpencer. Two of his more famous roles are [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji Ikari]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Hanataro Yamada]]. Not to mention Majik from ''Manga/SorcererStabberOrphen'', who's got it almost as bad as Hanataro.

** This example is particularly ironic when you consider the fact that Spike Spencer ''really'' didn't like playing Shinji, and says that his favorite type of roles are "psychos". Yes, the anime dub actor most known for Shinji Ikari wants to be the Creator/MarkHamill of anime.
*** He got his wish in one of his more major roles in the dub of ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic'', where he plays a completely AxCrazy terrorist... who happens to be a Shinji {{Expy}}. It borders IAmNotSpock really.
*** Apparently, he's getting another chance as [[TykeBomb Rolo]] [[{{Yandere}} Lamperouge]] on ''Anime/CodeGeass''. For once, the Shinji-{{Expy}} aspect seems to absent... perhaps there's hope for him, yet?
*** Rolo's not quite a Shinji {{Expy}}, but he's still insecure and effeminate. He's not even really that aggressive personality-wise, he just has [[spoiler:a sociopathic lack of inhibition for killing people]].
*** He also got to be badass, German assassin Yeager in ''Tales of Vesperia''.
*** Even more hilariously lampshaded in the VA commentary track for ''Anime/BubblegumCrisis 2040'', where he played Mackie Stingray. The director points out that Spike himself is 6'2" and a black belt in tae kwon do, but always, always, ''always'' gets cast as effeminate young boys who've yet to hit puberty.
*** Spike himself frequently points out that he is, in his own words, "a whore" and that earning a living as an anime dubber means taking every role he can get, even the annoying ones.
*** He does get a chance to play a full-on psychotic role with Arakune of ''VideoGame/BlazBlue''.
*** ...and then there's Manga/BusoRenkin, where Spike Spencer is the gloriously camp and fabulous ''Papillion.''
*** Then there's Wukong, the cocky BloodKnight simian warrior from ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends''
*** And then he's completely PlayingAgainstType with the mildly HotBlooded, {{Keet}} hero [[Manga/{{MAR}} Ginta Toramizu]].
*** Plus, Koichi Tsuruchi in ''Manga/KnightsOfSidonia'', an expert mech pilot who's friendly and easy going (if [[ChivalrousPervert a bit of a perv]]).

** Then again she's also energetic {{Yandere}} Akira Kogami from ''Manga/LuckyStar'' (''even during her frequent character breaks''). {{Anime/Eureka|Seven}} is kind of a borderline case, to the point of nearly being PlayingAgainstType.
** Then again, again, she also played ''three'' different roles in ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis''. Namely, CoolBigSis Nanako Meino, {{Tsundere}} Tomoka Osakada, and PluckyGirl An Tachibana.

While Rebbecca is kinda flat, she ''is'' something of a ShrinkingViolet and YesMan. The subversion lies in the fact that these appearances (and ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil0'') show Ms. Chambers to be ''very'' cunning, as well as [[TookALevelInBadass far more competent]] than her original portrayal.
** She also gets a chance to voice badass women in ''VideoGame/AnarchyReigns'' as the Rin sisters: the professional Rin Rin, the perky Ai Rin, and the seductive Fei Rin.
** She does GenkiGirl voices very well. Just look at her portrayal as Mika from ''VideoGame/KillerIsDead'': they don't get much Genki-er than her. She also played Yui Hirasawa from ''Manga/KOn'', and is also the new voice of Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon) in the Creator/VizMedia re-dub of ''Manga/SailorMoon''.
* Creator/MichaelSinterniklaas has your typical, fresh, young male hero voice (like [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 Leonardo]]) which can at times be confused with Yuri Lowenthal's or Vic Mignogna's when in the right tone, and it can be used for utterly snobbish, charismatic, handsome bad guys (Xellos in ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}: Evolution'', replacing the previous actor, or Luppi in ''Manga/{{Bleach}}''). But he can also go really high-pitched and crazy to portray a pathetic wimp if he needs to ([[WesternAnimation/KappaMikey Mikey Simon]], [[WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers Dean Venture]]). Interestingly, a good portion of his roles are wimps who are on either side of an ironic romantic crush!
** Averted in ''Franchise/ThePinkPanther: Passport to Peril'', where he voices a whiny British youth.
** He's developed a knack for voicing [[TheUnintelligible unintelligible]] creatures too. There's been Punipuni, a dog, in ''[[Manga/BlackGod Kurokami]]'', [[CrossDressingVoices Cozy Heart Penguin]] in ''WesternAnimation/CareBearsAndCousins'', and now the majority of the Hemkas, most notably Purple and Orange, in ''WebAnimation/HanazukiFullOfTreasures''.
* Creator/JessicaBoone is known for playing cute girl roles like Chiyo-chan from ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'' and Azmaria from ''Manga/ChronoCrusade'' -- enough that she mentions in the audio commentary for ''Manga/DNAngel'' that she was happy to play a character with a "deeper voice" when she played GenkiGirl Mio Hio. This might be changing, however, since she's also recently gotten roles like the DarkMagicalGirl Rue/Princess Kraehe from ''Anime/PrincessTutu'' and {{Tsundere}} wannabe-MagicalGirlfriend Ayumi Mamiya from ''Manga/{{Magikano}}''.
** She was also the strict by-the-book Princess Inarba from ''Anime/UFOUltramaidenValkyrie''.

** Creator/RobinWilliams tends to be cast as [[IAmNotLeonardNimoy Robin Williams]] in all his voiceover work.
** Given Williams' proclivities, it's probably regarded as a) a waste and b) futile anyway to cast him as the voiceover actor for any character whose description does ''not'' include the words "like Robin Williams".
* Try as you might, it's difficult to find characters in the late and great Creator/TonyJay's filmography that weren't menacing, nefarious villains: From Judge Frollo of [[Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon Disney's]] ''WesternAnimation/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame'' to [[PoorMansSubstitute Shere Khan]] in ''WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook1967'' sequel as well as ''House of Mouse'' and ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin'', to ''WesternAnimation/ReBoot's'' Megabyte, to the [[EldritchAbomination Lovecraftian]] reject Elder God from the ''VideoGame/LegacyOfKain'' series, and even the beholder Xantam in ''Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.''

** Also the narrator in the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' episode "Transformation".

** Sul-Van, Superman's biological grandfather in ''WesternAnimation/SupermanTheAnimatedSeries''.
** Played with as Death in ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'', who is naturally intimidating, but isn't really evil - he's just doing his job of taking souls to the after life. Fortunately for the title character, [[AllJustADream his apperance was just in a nightmare]].
** This was subverted [[PlayedForLaughs for laughs]] when he voiced Peking Duck in ''WesternAnimation/TheTwistedTalesOfFelixTheCat'', a bumbling villainous duck who [[VillainousUnderdog stood no chance in hell of ever beating Felix]] and who's goal was to steal Felix's Magic Bag. Tony Jay's voice was so ill-fitting and so mismatched, that hearing such a suave and intimidating voice come out of [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/steprightup.png such a complete joke of a character]] was easily the most hilarious thing the show ever did.
* Creator/SandyFox is typically type casted as a cute, naive, character such as Flonne (''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}''), Marona (''VideoGame/PhantomBrave''), or Mieu (''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'').

** Because of her pitched voice, she also tends to play lolis, such as Chibi-Usa from ''Manga/SailorMoon''.

* Okay, Creator/CoreyBurton ''does'' play a lot of evil robots, [[VideoGame/CrashBandicoot N. Gin]], [[Franchise/TransformersGeneration1 Shockwave]], [[WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated Megatron]], and [[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague Brainiac]] being some of the most famous. But he does other stuff, too!
** Technically [[VideoGame/CrashBandicoot N. Gin]] is a cyborg, so that might not qualify as a robot.
** Do computer programs count as robots? Because he did a very convincing impression of Creator/DavidWarner (MCP, Sark) in both VideoGame/TronTwoPointOh (the ''Killer App'' sequel, as a malicious hacker implied to be Dillinger) and the ''Film/{{Tron}}''-based Space Paranoids world in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''.
*** He does like his David Warner impression. The fact that Shockwave (in both G1 and Animated) bear more than a slight vocal resemblance is no accident.
** He's also Dale from ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'', which is definitely different from his robot voices.
** He also seems to be the Creator/ChristopherLee replacement as [[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars Count Dooku in the series]] and [=DiZ=][[spoiler:/Ansem the Wise]] in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories'' and ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep''.

Most notable is his role as King Haggard in the animated version of ''WesternAnimation/TheLastUnicorn''. In the German dub of ''The Last Unicorn'', he did ''his own'' dubbing, since he speaks German.
** On the other hand, he also played [=Ansem/DiZ=] in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', who may have been a magnificent bastard in the past, but is definitely not in the game itself.
** On the other hand, he's also done the voice of Death in the few animated ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' productions there've been, and Death is anything but a MagnificentBastard.
*** He doesn't have to be, he's just gotta wait. Actually, that might not be a bad strategy for Creator/ChristopherLee, either...
** Sony Online Entertainment went straight to Lee and asked him to Lucan D'Lere, the immortal tyrant who rules over the evil city of Freeport when they created ''VideoGame/EverQuestII''. His voice is well deserved and fitting for the character.
* If they have red or brown hair and are either impulsive and violent, or occasionally, levelheaded and extremely powerful, Creator/QuintonFlynn has probably voiced them (comic relief is optional): [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Reno]], [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Kon]], [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Axel]], [[Anime/DigimonSavers Marcus Damon]], [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Iruka AND Deidara]], [[WesternAnimation/TimonAndPumbaa Timon (the first season of the TV series)]].
** And [[Franchise/MetalGear Raiden]], who was blond. Only mildly impulsive and violent in the second game, but went totally overboard with both in the fourth game.
** He voiced the Human Torch (who is a blond) in ''WesternAnimation/FantasticFour: The Animated Series'', ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' and the 2000 ''VideoGame/SpiderMan''.
** He also plays both sides of the coin in ''one'' role: Henry in ''VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes'', who switches from calm and methodical to impulsive and violent at the drop of a hat. Must be the Irish in him.
* Need someone to voice a calm, intellectual character, like [[WesternAnimation/TheRealGhostbusters Egon Spengler]] or [[WesternAnimation/PinkyandtheBrain The Brain]]? Creator/MauriceLaMarche is the man for the job. Any Creator/OrsonWelles pastiche as well.
** Though [=LaMarche=] is fully capable of other types: for ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'', he does the voices for hammy robot actor Calculon, Lrrr [[IncomingHam RULER OF OMICRON PERSEI 8]], AmbiguouslyEvil newscaster Morbo the Annihilator, the aptly-named [[TheHedonist Hedonismbot]], and mentally unstable robot mobster Clamps ([[ManOfAThousandVoices among others]]) in addition to the (intellectual, but not always calm; ''neurotic'' might be more apt) Kif Kroker.
* Temuera Morrison has (arguably) gotten ''the'' biggest single-character voice-acting deal in history. His roles of note? [[Franchise/StarWars Jango Fett]] (Played him in the films, and in every single video game featuring him), the Republic's Clone Army (same deal: every film and video game [except ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'', where the character(s) were voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, and the ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsCloneWars'' cartoon, and Republic Commando offered other voices for other squad members]; the clones were cloned from Jango), and Boba Fett('s voice) (yet another Jango clone) in the ''Franchise/StarWars'' [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks Original Trilogy 2004 DVD re-release]], and all subsequent games. The problem? Although he's been getting ''plenty'' of work recently, he (literally) plays the '''exact same character''' in all of his work. Talk about pigeonholing/typecasting...
* Need a high-pitched squeaky voice for your anime dub? Look no further than Creator/StephanieBeard (or, as you may know her from her Canadian radio show, Suga [=BayBee=]). She's been Rini of ''Anime/SailorMoon,'' Ming-Ming of ''Anime/BakutenShootBeyblade'', Momo of ''Mirmo!'', and Creech of ''WesternAnimation/{{Cyberchase}}.'' She was also [[Franchise/CareBears Wish Bear]] at some point. Basically, if you can't get Creator/TaraStrong she's your go-to girl.
* Way too loud little kid, usually male: Pamela Adlon (aka Pamela Segall). She's Bobby on ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'', Andy of ''WesternAnimation/SquirrelBoy'', ''VideoGame/PajamaSam'', Otto from ''WesternAnimation/TimeSquad'', Zach from ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresFromTheBookOfVirtues'', and Milo from ''WesternAnimation/TheOblongs'' along with several other supporting roles with that same voice. Also tends to do tomboyish female characters like Moose of ''WesternAnimation/PepperAnn'' and Spinelli of ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}.'' Oddly enough, along with Milo she also voiced the [[AlphaBitch Debbies]] from ''The Oblongs.''
* Creator/MichaelMcConnohie's deep, commanding voice usually leads him to being cast as a [[Manga/BoboboboBobobo narrator]], an [[Anime/CodeGeass authority figure]], or an [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIV imposing villain]].
** Averted somewhat by Lexor in ''WesternAnimation/{{Visionaries}}'' and Cosmos (Creator/PeterLorre impression) and Tracks (camp yuppie) in ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}''.
* You can afford a movie star to narrate your movie? Get Creator/MorganFreeman!
** But if you need your narrator to have an exquisite British accent, get Creator/StephenFry instead. If you can afford it, get both!
* Who do you call when you want someone to voice a short or soft-spoken boy? Creator/BrianneSiddall's your man (err.. boy. Or girl rather..), who has voiced Tsukasa from ''[[Franchise/DotHack .hack//SIGN]]'', Kunikida from ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'', Taro from ''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain'', Mithos from ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' and Jr. from ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}''.
** However, she has voiced female characters, like Pamela of ''VideoGame/{{Mana Khemia|AlchemistsOfAlRevis}}''.
** I once saw her (try to) play an adult female character in ''Anime/{{Geneshaft}}'' and could not get Jr. out of my mind. She is so good at playing young boys that she isn't able to play females. I could hear traces of her boy voice and the character just sounded more boyish than female and it was hard to get it out of my head.
* Creator/MonaMarshall falls under this category despite being an excellent voice actress. If you need a young male voice for your show, then seek no further. She's most well known for being Izzy in the first season of ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'', and has done young male voices in ''Anime/CowboyBebop'', ''Anime/CodeGeass'', ''Anime/MoribitoGuardianOfTheSpirit'', and many others. It's gotten to the point where no one realizes she can do great female characters as well, such as the pilot episode's voice of Penny in ''WesternAnimation/InspectorGadget''.
** She's also done a [[ChildProdigy similar character type]] to Izzy as well, this being Minoru Kokubunji from Manga/{{Chobits}}.
* Relative newcomer Creator/TaraPlatt is starting to find her way into this, usually playing stern, serious female roles (and rarely, even teenage or androgynous boys). She's pretty much starting to take over the niche that Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn held unchallenged for so long.
* Creator/CaseyKasem, renown radio personality and voice actor, is [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Shaggy]]. This remains an inescapable fact, to the point of doing a double-take when watching episodes from the first season of ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'', in which he voiced at least two of the titular robots. In the 1970's, Creator/HannaBarbera cast him in various Shaggy Expies when they produced ''Scooby-Doo'' clone shows, and he ''still'' used that same voice for them all!
** Not to mention Robin in the original Creator/{{Filmation}} series of ''Batman'' and ''WesternAnimation/SuperFriends''.

* Sab Shimono always plays old Asian men; most notably {{WesternAnimation/Jackie Chan| Adventures}}'s Uncle, WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack's Father, and [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Monk Gyatso]].
* Creator/SherryLynn is one of few female voice actors capable of playing female child roles authentically. If her name is in the credits, she's almost certainly going to be a little girl.

How he ended up ''voicing'' Dante from ''[=DMC3=]'' onwards is not common knowledge.
* Christine Cavanaugh, while she was still voice acting, seemed to be pigeonholed into voicing [[Animation/DavidAndTheMagicPearl little]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}} red-haired boys]] [[WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory with glasses]].

* Go look up any clips starring Brandon Keener on Website/YouTube and almost invariably, you'll find any number of comments somehow relating [[Franchise/MassEffect Garrus Vakarian]] to Keener's on-screen role (be it his bit part in ''He's Just Not That Into You'', an episode of ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' or random commercials) via MemeticMutation. To his credit, he doesn't seem to mind that he's only known for Garrus... ''yet''.
* Raphael Sbarge has a very distinctive voice and is also best known for voicing Carth Onasi in ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic''. Unfortunately, this has led to Carth's detractors linking nearly every role he's done since then to Carth, even if there's no similarities between them character-wise (see Kaidan Alenko in ''Franchise/MassEffect'').
** And in live-action roles (''Series/StarTrekVoyager'', ''Series/ColdCase'', ''Series/BurnNotice'', ''Series/{{Journeyman}}''), he's usually playing someone deeply disturbed and violently psychotic...His role on ''Series/OnceUponATime'' is an exception, but he's in the Creator/BioWare-type position of being TheConscience.
* And one of the kings (or at least princes) of this Trope is Robbie Benson. Disney's ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast'', ''ComicStrip/PrinceValiant'', ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVIHeirTodayGoneTomorrow''... Guaranteed, he'll be playing some variety of TheWisePrince.
* Averting this trope may be one of the reasons Robert Clotworthy opted to do some work for ''VideoGame/StarCraft'' and films like ''WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove''. If not for that, he'd mostly be known for doing narration on ''Series/AncientAliens'' and other dubious pseudo-science programs on Creator/TheHistoryChannel: not exactly a boost to one's credibility.
* Creator/TomKenny once stated himself, that he usually ends up voicing characters who are "really sweet, but not smart at all." Examples: [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls The Mayor of Townsville]], [[WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends Eduardo]], [[WesternAnimation/RockosModernLife Heffer Wolfe]], and, obviously, {{WesternAnimation/SpongeBob|SquarePants}}. He also does a good announcer voice for said shows, such as the Narrator in ''PPG''.
** He's got some range, though. [[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder General Peepers]] holds a lot of the same comical aspects his characters usually exhibit wrapped up in a HyperCompetentSidekick. And then there's his [[WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan Doctor Octopus]], [[KnightOfCerebus the polar opposite of them.]]
* Roz Ryan is usually typecast as {{Sassy Black Wom|an}}en, such as [[WesternAnimation/{{Hercules}} Thalia]], [[WesternAnimation/TheMarvelousMisadventuresOfFlapjack Bubbie]], the driving instructor from ''WesternAnimation/SymBionicTitan'', and Witch Lexah from ''WesternAnimation/TheLooneyTunesShow''.

* Creator/TaraStrong tends to voice her characters that are good and sweet ranging from a cheerful child (Bubbles from ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'') to an understanding adult (Batgirl from ''[[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries The New Batman Adventures]]'') to a hyperactive girl (Rikku from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX''). One of her favorite roles is Melody from ''Disney/TheLittleMermaidIIReturnToTheSea'' as she happens to be joyed of siding with Jodi Benson.

* Aaron Spann makes himself known for playing as good boys like [[WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTime Littlefoot]], [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls Mike Believe]], and [[Disney/PeterPan Lost Boy Twins]].

* More often than not, you'll hear Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn in "authoritative female"-type roles, often a LadyOfWar, such as [[Anime/GhostInTheShellStandAloneComplex Major Motoko Kusanagi]], [[Franchise/DotHack Helba]], [[Anime/CodeGeass Cornelia li Britannia]], [[Manga/WolfsRain Lady Jagura]], and [[Anime/EurekaSeven Dr. Misha]].

* If you need a GenkiGirl (or [[CrossdressingVoices guy]], in one case), and Stacey DePass has it covered. We have [[WesternAnimation/RubyGloom Iris]], [[WesternAnimation/RobTheRobot Rob]], and [[WesternAnimation/TurboDogs Mags]], among others.

** However, this also extends to non-human characters that ''can'' speak, which includes the Gravemind from ''VideoGame/{{Halo}}'', Klaus (a goldfish with a human brain) from ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'', pretty much every male non-human in ''WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}}'' (except Blunk and Thynar; they were both Creator/SteveBlum), and Olmec the giant talking animatronic Olmec head on ''Series/LegendsOfTheHiddenTemple'' (where he's also the announcer). He's also done human roles that vary wildly from the titular character of ''VideoGame/ViewtifulJoe'' to Numbuh 4 from ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor''.

* Do you need a voice for a small, cute, sidekick type character? Well look no further than Creator/BrinaPalencia who's known for doing many CrossdressingVoices like [[Manga/DragonBall Chaotzu]], [[Manga/OnePiece Chopper]], and [[Manga/SgtFrog Tamama]]. At this rate, she might end up being the next Creator/MonaMarshall, [[TropesAreNotBad although that's not necessarily a bad thing.]]

* WHenever they appear in a Creator/DavidMacaulay work, Creator/BrianBlessed is always the master builder, and Creator/DerekJacobi is the one doing the chronicling of the construction process.

* Creator/JeffreyCombs has a creepy voice that is just perfect for villains, like [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012 the Rat King]], [[WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes the Leader]], [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold Kite Man]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheNewBatmanAdventures the Scarecrow]]. When he's not playing villains, he has a tendency to portray intelligent but quirky characters like [[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueUnlimited the Question]] and [[WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated H.P. Hatecraft]]. Almost all of his characters, either good or evil, have a slightly annoyed or condescending note to their voices as well.

* Creator/MichaelSinterniklaas has your typical, fresh, young male hero voice (like [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 Leonardo]]) which can at times be confused with Yuri Lowental's or Vic Mignogna's when in the right tone, and it can be used for utterly snobbish, charismatic, handsome bad guys (Xellos in ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}: Evolution'', replacing the previous actor, or Luppi in ''Manga/{{Bleach}}''). But he can also go really high-pitched and crazy to portray a pathetic wimp if he needs to ([[WesternAnimation/KappaMikey Mikey Simon]], [[WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers Dean Venture]]). Interestingly, a good portion of his roles are wimps who are on either side of an ironic romantic crush!

** He's developed a knack for voicing [[TheUnintelligible unintelligible]] creatures too. First was Punipuni, a dog, in ''[[Manga/BlackGod Kurokami]]'', then [[CrossDressingVoices Cozy Heart Penguin]] in ''WesternAnimation/CareBearsAndCousins'', and now the majority of the Hemkas, most notably Purple and Orange, in ''WebAnimation/HanazukiFullOfTreasures''.

** The same could be said for [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Fire Lord Sozin]]. And ''Hellboy'' (who [[WesternAnimation/HellboyAnimated he voices]] ''and'' [[Film/{{Hellboy}} plays in live action]]) who's large, but not slimy. Really the only Perlman voice character that would count as slimy is [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries Clayface]].

* Need a high-pitched squeaky voice for your anime dub? Look no further than Creator/StephanieBeard (or, as you may know her from her Canadian radio show, Suga [=BayBee=]). She's been Rini of ''Anime/SailorMoon,'' Ming-Ming of ''Anime/{{Beyblade}},'' Momo of ''Mirmo!'', and Creech of ''WesternAnimation/{{Cyberchase}}.'' She was also [[Franchise/CareBears Wish Bear]] at some point. Basically, if you can't get Creator/TaraStrong she's your go-to girl.

** He also voiced Ares, the BigBad of ''VideoGame/GodOfWar''.
