* Literature/StarTrekNovelVerse:
** Hikaru Sulu is one when it comes to his daughter Demora, even being willing to defy all of Starfleet to protect her. When an old adversary tries to claim Demora was not his daughter Hikaru calls his bluff as a DNA test was one of the first things Dr. McCoy did after Demora's mother Susan Ling died. Later Demora asks Hikaru if he would have considered her his daughter if they were not genetically related and Hikaru replies that yes he would have.
** When the Jem'Hadar observer Taran'tar is compelled to kidnap Prynn Tenmei her centenarian father and Starfleet officer Elias Vaughn takes off after them in the USS Defiant. Catching up with them, despite being over 100 years old Vaughn still manages to fight Taran'tar to a standstill.
** In the novel "Child of Two Worlds" the Klingon General Krumm is one when it comes to his adopted daughter Merata, and is even willing to risk a larger conflict with the Federation over her safe return.

Do not trope own words.

* A slightly twisted variant occurs in Dexter By Design: Dex, of course, is already a SerialKiller masquerading as Just a NiceGuy, but it wasn't until relatively recently that he decided that he had feelings of love-ish for his stepfamily and foster sister (or, you know, anyone). So, when a rival slasher decides to mess with Domestic Daddy Dexter by stabbing Debbie and trying to kidnap his stepkids, out comes Deadly Defensive Dexter.

* Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire has a few examples:
** When Jaehaerys' daughter Saera lost her virginity to a suitor, he went ballistic on the guy and killed him however other than that time, he was kinda a crappy dad especially to his daughters and granddaughters
** When Rhaenyra Targaryen's Velaryon sons had their parentage claimed, her dad Viserys ordered the tongues removed of those who dared question his grandsons' legitimacy and then when someone did say it within earshot of Rhaenyra, the boys' step-father, Prince Daemon beheaded the guy.
** When Prince Lucerys died in the war, his step-dad, Daemon, ordered a hit on the opposing King's child. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son"
** The ever honorable Ned Stark was willing to sacrifice his honor if it meant keeping his children sake.
