While in this story it doesn't take him that long to realize that Hinata likes him (helped by the fact they become close friends much earlier than in canon) and that he likes her back in a romantic way, he's still somewhat clueless to the attraction some of his friends have for each other. Case in point, he's the only one not to realize that Kiba and Tamaki's bickering borders on BelligerentSexualTension.

[[{{Tsundere}} Sakura's]] failed attempts to get Sasuke's attention won't help Naruto any. [[CombatMedic Tsunade]] would only bring up [[TheLostLenore her dead boyfriend]]. [[CoolBigSis Shizune]] is single and tends to tease him relentlessly on the subject of relationships. [[IneffectualLoner Sasuke]] is a CelibateHero who finds love annoying. Compound the fact that he's going through puberty and you get one very confused little boy. A confused little boy who thinks that finding someone attractive means you're a pervert.

* ''Fanfic/FrozenWight'': It takes Elsa a ''looong'' time to realize Fritz is in love with her, despite him acting like a lovesick puppy. She also mentions that half the castle has confessed to her--she claims it's because they want to marry a royal for the prestige, and is unable to conceive of any other reason. The fact that she is a beautiful, kind, and immensely powerful woman doesn't even seem to occur to her.

* In ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/19337503/chapters/46001422 Everyone Loves Mob]]'' (Gender swapped)Mob spends the first four chapters not knowing that Onigawara, Shinji Kamuro, Musashi Goda, and Tome have feelings for her.

* In ''Fanfic/FlyALittleFaster'' Stiles is extremely oblivious as to with whom it is Derek is actually in love, until the evidence becomes too much for him to ignore. Unfortunately, at that moment, Ennis attacks.

* ''Fanfic/ASongOfSilkAndSaplings'': A running joke is that Maki develops a colossal crush on Hornet after she kicks his ass in a duel that he's profoundly embarrassed by and does a rather poor job of hiding, and which Hornet is the only person to remain consistently oblivious to as a result of her poorly-developed social skills.

* ''Fanfic/KyonBigDamnHero'' has Kyon completely unaware of the affections of [[spoiler: Haruhi, Mikuru, Nagato (sort of), Kanae, Tsuruya, and many of the girls in his school. Until his shoe locker is filled with notes from those girls, that is.]] He's also incapable of spotting the [[{{Polyamory}} polyamorous]] relationship that several other characters share. Even ''Mikuru'' worked that one out.

* In ''Fanfic/MyHuntsmanAcademia'', Izuku and Shouto are this to varying degrees. A lifetime of being bullied powdered Izuku's self-esteem and he's thoroughly convinced that no girl on Remnant would want to date someone as high-maintenance as he is. Because of this, he has no idea that his [[NiceGuy kindhearted demeanor]] and [[MrFanservice impressive abs]] are winning his female friends' hearts until [[spoiler:Yang decides to ask him out.]] In Shouto's case, his [[NoSocialSkills lack of human contact]] prior to coming to Beacon has just made him oblivious to social cues that could be interpreted as romantic. He thinks nothing of stripping a girl's wet clothes off during a rescue mission and is confused when Weiss starts fidgeting when he starts feeding her ice cream.
* ''Fanfic/AHerosWrath'': Having inherited Asura's lack of social skills when it comes to love, both Izuku and Mithra are ''terrible'' at picking up signals. For Izuku, Nejire had to be the one to ask him on a date. In Mithra's case, Inko had to ''physically shove Ryuko onto her'' for her to finally get the hint.
* ''[[https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/the-chronicles-of-tanya-the-holy-youjo-senki-warcraft-complete.780787/page-31#post-61601890 The Chronicles of Tanya the Holy]]'': Tanya spends the entire story believing she's merely securing her place as a valuable subordinate to Prince Arthas. It's not until the final scene where he proposes to her that she realizes he's madly in love with her.
* ''Fanfic/ColosseumOfTheHeart'' downplays this: [[Anime/PokemonTheSeries Ash]] is a few years older than canon and has matured enough to figure out that, in hindsight, [[Anime/PokemonTheSeriesXY Serena]] had feelings for him when they were traveling in Kalos. However, he has yet to figure out that she still does, which the rest of their friends are fully aware of. Even [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Sora]] picks up on it pretty quickly.
* ''Fanfic/TheMonkeyDHaruSeries'': [[Manga/OnePiece Luffy]] was this prior to him and Boa Hancock getting together, with Hancock having to go through all sorts of trials and tribulations so he would realize her feelings. It's why she makes sure that their adopted son [[Literature/HarryPotter Haru/Harry]] [[AvertedTrope is unlike his father in that aspect]].
