When snipers popped 682's eyes from afar, it responded by growing bullet-proof eyes all over its body so that it could keep 173 from getting close to it.

* [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-035 SCP-035]], a comedy mask that constantly secretes a corrrosive substance from its eyes and mouth. This calls for a glass containment since glass dissolves slower than everything else. People that see it want to put it on and when they do they are possessed by it as their body slowly decays, even past the point where (mechanically) they shouldn't move. The entity has complete knowledge on [[MindScrew human psychology]] and uses this along with [[AffablyEvil charm]] and telepathy to [[HannibalLecture convince ''anyone'' to do anything]]. [[ItGotWorse It gets worse]]. After a while, they decided not to give it any more hosts, realizing the potential this thing had. It starting driving people around the cell to suicide and depression. They coated the walls with an alloy that blocks telepathic suggestions, and it started decaying the walls with corrosive blood. Now, its cell is almost impossible to enter, due to the dangerous phenomenon within. [[BeyondTheImpossible It gets worse.]] The entity also shows interest in [[OhCrap 682]], whose regenerative abilities could counter the mask's corrosive decay, giving it a permanent host.

It's an SCP made up of hundreds of feral neglected diseased cats and some kind of cat-like.....THING that takes the form of a mass of extra limbs, eyes, mouths and other organs made up from the bodies of said cats as well as other material (small rodents, plant material, insects and insect larva, black mold, human [DATA EXPUNGED]). It's also in a constant state of degradation and decay, which means the cats find new material to add to the mass. And that's not all. An interview with a survivor of a mobile task force sent for containment of the SCP revealed that when they tried to roll the captured cat thing SCP out the door, it exploded and splattered its contents onto the force, who were immediately torn about by the horde of rampaging cats. May I remind you that the surviving member had half his face ripped off when he accidentally locked himself in his van with just one of the cats trying to escape the onslaught of feline fury. And it's revealed it's not the cat thing that influencing the cats' actions, the cats MADE it because they hate humans.

Now you know what kind of disgusting, freaky things are behind all those (DATA EXPUNGED) boxes, and they're exactly as bad as you'd think. "Now we can be together, just like he wants..."

* [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-204 SCP-204.]] 204 comes in two parts: 204-1 is a colony of nano-machines that follows around 204-2, protecting him/her from harm. 204-2 is a child aged from 4 to 14, with a history of being abused, who can control 204-1. When 204-2 turns fourteen, 204-1 finds a new child to protect, and, if the former 204-2 is mentally stable, the former 204-2 is given a Class-A amnesiac and put into a foster care program. That's not the HighOctaneNightmareFuel. The real HONF comes from an addendum that explains that due to 204-1 freaking out if there isn't another suitable child to imprint on if needed, the Foundation have a group of suitable candidates. However, if they really need candidates quickly, they can enlist some more candidates who don't fit the protocol- i.e., they are of a suitable age (preferably under ten), but they don't have a history of abuse. The Foundation will then '''turn them over to 'caretakers' which will consist of D-class personnel convicted of violent crimes, child abuse, and pedophilia'''. It also says that the procedure for hiring the 'caretakers' is the same one for finding people to perform Procedure 110-Montauk on SCP-231. Jesus Christ.

** Almost all SCP [REDACTED] or [DATA EXPUNGED] marks are indicative of HighOctaneNightmareFuel or something else really gory. Most refer to something that the Foundation did, or something that an SCP did. Not the description of the Khmer carving–this was a non-fictional event carried out by real human beings. And the SCP Foundation expunged its data. [[HumansAreBastards Yeah...]]

* [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-741 SCP-741]] is a sunken Russian submarine split into three pieces and guarded by the Foundation. The HighOctaneNightmareFuel? An attached interview with an American spy that said that the sub was carrying some kind of new weapon that not only made a bioweapons researcher sick, but that the Soviet couldn't safely control -- they sent the sub away to get rid of whatever it was.

* Goddamn it, the whole ''website''. The titles are very mundane numbers and stuff, so...you never know if you're clicking on something funny, [[{{Squick}} squicky]], or an insanely [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel fucked-up]] EldritchAbomination that will keep you awake for ''days''. And the ''pictures''...oh, god, the pictures...

* [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-939 SCP 939]]. Read the whole page and all its included documents. [[spoiler:They are these ''things'' that attack people and breathe amnesiacs. Doesn't sound scary? Read the document, "Reproduction of SCP-939." The whole thing. The audio log is a blend of HighOctaneNightmareFuel, TearJerker, and just a bit of AdultFear. Those things are sentient and, when they're young, they ''are just like small human children''.]]

* Nearly every Keter-class SCP could be considered HighOctaneNightmareFuel. Given that the criteria for Keter classification are: 1) it's too valuable, dangerous, or invulnerable to be neutralized at present, 2) it's an extremely significant threat to humanity, civilization, and/or ''reality'', and 3) ridiculously extensive and precisely followed containment protocols are required to keep the SCP isolated and secure (and even then it may only be a matter of time before it gets out of control)...

** Also, it was discovered because of "reports of missing children". [[KillItWithIce Think about]] [[KillItWithWater what happened]] [[ShiftingSandLand to those]] [[ThrownOutTheAirlock children]].

** I actually think this says far more about the way the Foundation deals with D-Class personnel. They are considered so inconsequential that Mr. Deeds will consider nothing much to kill them. Again, the Foundation is ''almost'' worse than the stuff they contain.

Read about what it takes in order to reclaim it if lost. Now think about what that would enable any garden variety sadistic creep to do. That thing's pretty much a catalyst for a wide variety of end of the world scenarios.

** Knowing the Foundation, that "reason" can probably be summed up as ForScience. Yeah. It makes me sick too.

Worse than that is reading the experimental logs of SCP-978, a camera that shows the photographed subject doing what it desires to be doing rather than what it actually is doing. 590's picture is absolutely heartbreaking and one of the most chilling things she's read on the whole site.
* [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-093 SCP-093]] is my favorite. Read the whole thing, including the test reports, in order, and then read the last link on the page. It sent shivers down my spine; the reports themselves are creepy and unsettling, but the final report is just chilling.

* There was an SCP on the original message board that was a small sphere which quite simply increased in temperature. Rising, and rising, and rising. They attempted to cool down the object by storing it with ice, in freezers, with liquid nitrogen, but that only temporarily slowed the process... The temperature just kept rising.

When they tried to ring 400 through 519, 519's response was, and I quote, "Ooooh, boy...". On the other side, 400 rang, and a guard picked it up, only to be pulled apart by an unseen force. Then there was a containment breach resulting in the entire site around being locked down and everyone terminated.
* [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-826 SCP-826]] is a very ordinary looking set of pewter dragon-head bookends, but if you close the door of the room, put a book or DVD between them, and open the door, the doorway will be a portal to the world of the book or film. It seems almost to be a joke entry, with a note about a researcher who was demoted for (apparently) planning to do very naughty things to a female Disney character on a DVD. But what if you tried it with the Necronomicon? And this thing is listed as "safe." Not Euclid, not Keter. "safe." Brr.
** Safe only means that the SCP can be reliably controlled, as long as you have appropriate protocols, and aren't inherently hostile to humanity. This is an easy mistake to make, made worse because the standard definition of safe does apply to some of them. And then others kill you in horrible ways, but are easy to keep under control. Good luck guessing which is which.
** And if you don't find the bookends within the story in time, you can ''never escape''. You get {{Mind Rape}}d into a background character...''forever''. And you can't even choose which part of the story you arrive in. So if you arrive at the very end...tough luck.
** Dear God, imagine what would happen if someone put a DVD copy of MarbleHornets in between SCP-826? ... shit.
** Do remember that even if you put in something so horrible that no one could possibly survive it, its effects will still be confined entirely to one room. All you have to do is warn people not to go in.

** Granted, that's an unnerving photo. But there's something amusing about how the report is basically a cross between a tenth-grader's meticulous school report on The Scottish Play with a ''literal'' KillEmAll ending.
** The URL for the Incident Report betrays what date 19██ is: [[spoiler:1997]]. Also, the state mentioned as the place where the video tape was recovered is [[spoiler: Ohio]]. It seems those ██s aren't impenetrable after all.

** Said machine can dispense "My Favourite Drink", which is tailored to the individual's tastebuds, and "The Best Drink Ever", which causes the drinker to become depressive and commit suicide because "everything else is just a letdown now." For more straightforward ways of killing you, it will happily dispense any kind of acid. There's a ''reason'' why they have two security guards stationed there with orders to shoot anyone who is trying to order anything other than normal drinks for research.
** On the other hand, it also turned out "[[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming Something Cassie will like]]," a [[HitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy Pan-Galactic]] GargleBlaster, and a "cup of relevant medical knowledge."
** When asked for something that could kill SCP-682, the liquid was so intense it vaporized the entire site SCP-294 was in, apart from a small patch surrounding the machine. Given cases with other SCPs like this, whether it would've worked is anyone's guess.

** Another fun result from SCP-261 is "TASTE ME", an obvious reference to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's funny, right until the part when the test subject eats it, goes into convulsions, and dies due to brain expansion. "Analysis of the cake showed large amounts of human growth hormone as well as several unidentified chemicals." Gee, thanks for ruining that book for me.

** And to make matters worse, it was originally just a censored two-digit number, but after a troper breathed a sigh of relief that at least 231-7 was not a child, the Foundation saw it and changed it, [[TemptingFate and replied to that post with "this is your fault,]] [[NiceJobBreakingItHero you made this happen".]]

** They're going to have to come up with ''something,'' though, because even barring any changes in her situation eventually she's going to die of natural causes, and the death of the previous six 231 hosts released their whatever-it-is. Since it wouldn't really make her situation much worse than it already is, putting her in something like the other SCP which is an iron maiden which prevents the victim aging or dying could delay the problem, but she'd still age while she was outside it for the Procedure, so it still wouldn't work indefinitely. Not to mention her [Data Expunged] may interpret that as an attempt to kill her and figure it was time to do its thing. And being fed via IV doesn't exactly prolong life, so they probably have less time than the average lifespan. Also, think about this; does she know what the thing she's carrying is, and would it make her situation worse or better if she did? If she did find out, either she may think "oh well, it'll prevent something even worse happening" and her distress level will be lowered slightly, which, since the distress level appears to be the important part of the Procedure, will be a problem, or she'll want to release the thing for revenge purposes. Pity the portal into a world already undergoing zombie apocalypse is no longer open, as they could have just shoved her through there - that world is already ending, and she'd no longer be the Foundation's problem. 231's situation, to me, is just plain {{Squick}}. The Nightmare Fuel aspect comes into play with the fact that they're keeping this thing under control using either the minimum safe or the only way to do so, ''they don't have a backup plan, and since the previous six hosts are all dead they don't have a way to safely test any plans they do come up with.''
** I have a WMG over on the WMG page to explain why they don't have a backup plan and why she "stays perpetually young".

* One of the most disturbing things about the SCP series (for some) is that almost all of them were located and contained after coming into contact with a regular civilian human being going about their business, with no knowledge of what the thing is, how it works or where it came from. Consider that there's an indeterminate number of supernatural objects that could qualify as an SCP scattered around the world, and ''you'' could run into, say, an undocumented Keter-class at any minute during your daily routine.

** Imagine them ordering 682?

** Given the nauseating levels of Gary Stu-ism given to SCP-316-D, I would argue its death was not nearly nightmarish enough. That said, the only reason the entry remains open is to demonstrate precisely the sort of puerile drivel that should never be added to the site in the first place.

** The [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-001 SCP-001 proposal page itself]]. When you scroll down to see why "SCROLLING DOWN WITHOUT PROPER INNOCULATION WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE CARDIAC ARREST FOLLOWED BY DEATH," you will shit bricks. What makes it worse is that the image is designed to kill you. Now if that were an SCP, and it could spread...
** It's not supposed to be scary. The idea is that the patterns in the image are so illogical and confusing that, if viewed without safety measures, will cause the brain to 'crash', so to speak. This is not the first time such a concept has been explored.

It makes you wonder just how his homeplace looks like...
*** Sounds to me like a ''VisualNovel/SayaNoUta'' crossover waiting to happen. The human staff would like her fake form, 682 would like her real one, and until she destroys the planet everyone wins!
*** And SCP-053 ''likes'' the thing! It even seemed to like her back, actively trying ''not'' to scare her when they first made contact and even letting her draw on it with her crayons. Although SCP-053 looks and acts like a three year old girl, everyone over the age of three has an irresistible desire to kill her after ten minutes of exposure, and everyone who tries dies painfully. Perhaps SCP-682 feels the same way about humans as humans do about SCP-053. In which case, one wonders where 053 ''really'' came from...

The only way to keep it from being born is by putting her through "Procedure 110-Montauk" every twenty-four hours, which is described as involving "brutally (DATA EXPUNGED)". Since it can only be carried out by convicted sex offenders among Class D Personnel, and is being supervised by employees who have passed a psychological examination in which "mild sociopathic tendencies and marked sexual deviancy are not to be considered automatic fail conditions" (an early warning and implication of who carries this out) it's [[strike:pretty obvious what it is]] [[WordOfGod 10 times worse than whatever you think it is.]]

** They've tried [[WhatAnIdiot duplicating]] SCP-173 with SCP-038 (a tree that can copy anything short of two hundred pounds). The good news? It stopped short of two hundred pounds, so only the head, right arm and upper torso was copied, and it moves so slowly that they didn't notice it during testing. The bad news? It ''didn't stop moving'' when it was observed. This thing is supposed to be a perfect copy of the original; how could we stop it if it just decided to ignore its one supposed weakness?
