* ''Franchise/DragonBall'':
** When Vegeta crushed his scouter [[ReadingsAreOffTheScale after it was unable to register Goku's power level]], famously accompanied by his declaration that it was "Over 9000!"[[note]]"Over 8000" in Japanese[[/note]]. It has long since spawned a meme about Vegeta shouting random numbers and crushing electronics he's holding.
** Vegeta's distaste for worms in a {{filler}} episode of the Majin Buu Saga. Fans always make jokes and many photos on Website/DeviantArt about his dislike of worms along with Goku's [[AfraidOfNeedles fear of needles]].
** Krillin is often mocked because [[DeathIsCheap he dies a lot]]. While he does die 3 times (4 counting ''Anime/DragonBallGT''), there's another character who dies just as much, but never gets brought up: Chiaotzu. However, Krillin's first two deaths were [[CerebusSyndrome important, memorable events]] that had a lot of emotional impact, the non-canon fourth one like this too, and only the third was minor (Albeit the anime made it a bit better). Chiaotzu's first two deaths were {{Senseless Sacrifice}}s, and the third wasn't even pointed out, just inferred. But nobody remembers this. It should be noted that if one discounts ''GT'' and counts ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', ''Goku'' himself has died the same amount of times as Krillin. Of course, he gets a pass, given that he's [[MemeticBadass Goku]] and his third death literally lasted a minute and was in a BreatherEpisode.
** Krillin's subsequent deaths are far more notable because he was revived with the Dragon Balls once already (and before they came up with new rules, the Dragon can only revive a person once). Krillin effectively cheated death twice, first by being revived and again when his friends circumvented the 1 revival rule. This may have contributed to his dying being memetic. Still, the same things could be said of Chiaotzu (As they die at about the same time; hell, Chiaotzu's second death comes well before Krillin's), but the show focuses more on Krillin, so it's understandable he's remembered more.
** Counting all the series, Android 17 and Piccolo have also died four times, but nearly all of Android 17's deaths were offscreen, so it's hard to remember.
** Yamcha is often noted for dying to the Saibaman enemy's SuicideAttack, but fans often neglect to note that he was canonically taken off-guard and in the manga had no time to react at all. Fans also tend to ignore that as stated in the series, Yamcha also went ahead in the fight as a favor for Krillin who had already died once and thus couldn't be revived by the Dragon Balls, instead believing Yamcha was doing it for the glory or selfish reasons (see RonTheDeathEater). His UndignifiedDeath has become so well-known in the fanbase that it's largely the thing he's best-known for. His pose upon dying is an AscendedMeme, with multiple video games making him unusually vulnerable to the normally-ineffective SuicideAttack of Saibamen, and in ''VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse'', falling into the "death pose" is actually a ''move'' of his. It even crops up in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''. By ''VideoGame/DragonBallFighterZ'', the joke had become so universal that it even got subverted, as Yamcha naturally has a Dramatic Finish when defeated by Nappa... but he can also return the favor, defeating Nappa in exactly the same way.
*** In addition to the Saibaman's attack, Yamcha has the dubious distinction of being a "cuckold" whom Bulma eventually left for the man responsible for Yamcha's death. [[note]]Vegeta didn't kill Yamcha personally but the Saibaman who killed Yamcha was acting under Vegeta's command at the time.[[/note]] While there are also some memes and humor surrounding this, Yamcha does notably get more sympathy for this one, considering how he was once Goku's first ally who created the blueprint for future rival-type friends but late into the series is still single with no job, has no family or children, and is considered one of the weakest, bottom-tier Z-fighters. Whereas Krillin at least got Android 18 to make up for falling behind Goku, Yamcha basically got nothing except for some "Forever Alone" memes of Bulma choosing Vegeta over him.
** ''DBZ'' is often poked fun at for its [[InactionSequence dragged out fight scenes]]... However, the only time it was ''really'' as bad as the jokes made them out to be were during the Namek Saga. Other times were not as bad.
** At the end of the Saiyan Saga, Chi-Chi was completely neglectful of Goku, caring nothing for his health and only showed concern for Gohan. This is what most fans best remember her for, and will use this incident as a supporting point in arguments on whether she's a good wife for Goku.
** Mr. Satan has yet to live down taking credit for beating Cell. Despite him redeeming himself by helping Goku save the world from Kid Buu, fans still won’t let him live this down.
** Goku gave Cell a Senzu Bean and threw Gohan into a fight with him, with Gohan being helpless and scared at the time. This incident is mentioned a lot when fans question his nobility and his good nature in general, ignoring all the times he ''protects'' Gohan. It's just that he thought the kid was ready when he really wasn't, and did not understand that Gohan wasn't the BloodKnight his father was. Goku has yet to live this down.
** Comic shop owner Miami Mike was immortalized in an infamous credits potshot from a Ctenosaur Video fansub of the series for doing ''something'' to a Ctenosaur person at [=DragonCon=], revealed in March 2018 to be [[spoiler:stepping on Ctenosaur's toes via sale of their tapes]].
** ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'' is sometimes thought to be heavily censored. However, this isn't the case - while the original version does have ''some'' censorship (the scene where Piccolo blows a hole through Goku and Raditz is edited and shots of genitalia and FlippingTheBird are removed), it's largely negligible. This mistaken assumption can be largely attributed to the original broadcasts done on Nicktoons and Toonzai, which ''were'' heavily censored, removing blood and profanity, and, in the latter's case, [[NeverSayDie removing all references to death]] and making Mr. Popo blue. However, the Creator/{{Toonami}} and home versions of the show don't have these changes, and when one compares the English dubs of the original show and ''Kai'', ''Kai'' is much less censored.
*** It doesn’t help that for the Latin American Spanish dub, Toei not just commissioned the Nicktoons edit, but [[TheOtherDarrin changed]] most of the original cast, leading to a ''massive'' outrage [[AmericansHateTingle in said region]]. ''The Final Chapters'' [[WinBackTheCrowd surely addressed many issues]].

** A darker example would be in the case of episode 16 of the series, which exposes the shocking twist that [[spoiler: Life Fibers are an alien life form]], but the moment that most people remember from this episode is [[spoiler: the infamous "Bath Scene," which establishes beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ragyo is [[VillianousIncest sexually abusing]] Satsuki and that she's been doing that to her daughter for her whole life, casting her past overly touchy interactions with Satsuki in a more horrifying light]].

* In the ''LightNovel/{{Durarara}}'' novels, a new character is introduced named Aoba Kuronuma. There is no official artwork of him, however he has shown up a lot in fan art. How? Because he's most remembered by being stabbed with a pen by none other than [[spoiler: Mikado]] and is always drawn with a bandage on his hand. He has shown up as of the second season of Durarara.

* ''LightNovel/TheFamiliarOfZero'': The infamous scene where Louise beat up Saito with a horse whip and we see him unconscious bruised and bleeding. While Louise's [[DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale treatment]] [[DomesticAbuse of Saito]] as a whole has been quite the point of contention, that particular scene stands out, probably because having a character actually bruised instead of covered in, say, [[CranialEruption cartoonish bumps]] make it hard to take the scene as [[{{Slapstick}} slapstick violence]].

* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':

*** Yoshikage Kira, a terrifying SerialKiller, is mostly known by fans for getting an erection as a child after seeing the Art/MonaLisa (or more specifically, her hands) for the first time (with the line "I HAD A BONER" from [[BlindIdiotTranslation the infamous "Duwang Scans"]] becoming a meme), and [[spoiler:[[DeathByAmbulance dying from being run over by an ambulance]]]], to the point that [[spoiler:the ambulance]] has even become a MemeticBadass of sorts.

** James crossdressed well over a dozen times but has almost completely stopped since Johto ended, and he was always DisguisedInDrag. People ignore Jessie's also frequent crossdressing (she most notably does it in "The Misty Mermaid", where it even serves as the page image for our recap) and act like James has WholesomeCrossdresser tendencies. Even in the first couple of seasons, only about 10% of his costumes were crossdressing.

** Despite all the things that Ash has accomplished over the years[[note]]saving the world multiple times, beating the Orange Islands Champion, clearing the Battle Frontier...[[/note]], fans still think he's a failure of a trainer [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption for taking over 20 years to win a Pokémon League]]. This is in spite of the fact that about half of those losses were because of something that wasn't due to his ability, like Charizard's disobedience combined with a persistent Team Rocket in the Kanto League or Tobias using [[OlympusMons Legendaries and Mythicals]] in the Sinnoh League, and with the exception of Unova Ash would always rank equal or higher than his previous standing. Even after Ash managed to win a Leauge in Alola, his worst defeats remained more remembered than his greatest achievements.

* There was one instance in ''Anime/FullMetalAlchemist'' where Colonel Mustang is seen slacking off at work and avoiding paperwork until the last second. This wasn't even a very important episode, just a little fanservice since he hadn't shown up in a while. However, try to find ONE Royai fic (or even just a fic about the colonel in general) that doesn't at least mention this 'tendency'. Just one.

** ''That'' incident involving [[ADateWithRosiePalms Nina Einstein and a certain table]].

** After a long time and a lot of CharacterDevelopment, several fans still remember the fact Bakugou was Midoriya's bully and that he never apologized or faced consequences for it, which is still a BrokenBase among the fans on why he hasn't even been called out on it by anyone yet and whether or not he should be. One particular example is the part where he told Midoriya to kill himself and hope he reincarnates with a Quirk. While he never says anything ''that'' terrible for the rest of the story, and Horikoshi says Bakugo wasn't meant to be this bad, many of Bakugo's detractors hold it against him to this day, seeing it as an act so heinous, they cannot forgive him. [[spoiler:It's gotten a little better as Bakugou ''does'' eventually apologize to Midoriya for all the things he said and did.]]

** [[Anime/PokemonTheSeriesXY Serena]] is forever depicted by her detractors as a StalkerWithACrush who started her journey because of her crush on Ash, a guy she hadn't seen in years. This ignores the fact it's implied Serena had been looking for any way to get out of becoming a Ryhorn Racer and was only using returning Ash's handkerchief as an excuse to get permission to finally leave home. Furthermore, Serena wasn't planning to travel with Ash, him and Bonnie invited Serena to join their group. Despite these nuances, it's common for detractors of Serena to characterize her as a girl obsessed with Ash who lacks any agency outside of her crush on him.

** Same thing can be said for Pikachu and ketchup. He carried a bottle of it around for half of the episode "Showdown at Dark City" and was never seen touching the stuff again. It's still brought up in fanfics to this day, all because the scene was just ''too funny'' to forget.
*** The second episode of ''Advanced'' features Pikachu happily licking a ketchup bottle while Ash and May are eating.
*** The ''XY'' episode "Mega Revelations" had Korrina dip Pikachu's hand into some ketchup in order to get his pawprint. After she was done, Pikachu licked his hand in joy.
*** And then there's the ending theme Pikachu's Song, and it's all about his love for the stuff.
** Ash, in one episode, complained about the idea of helping Team Rocket's Pokémon because "they're the bad guys". {{Fanon}} (particularly rabid Rocketshippers) has since latched onto the idea of him being a heartless {{Jerkass}} when it comes to Team Rocket, even going out of his way to hurt them or anyone else who would help them in any way.

** Ash only dressed up as [[DraggedIntoDrag Ashley]] once, but the fandom still seems determined not to forget it. (His crossdressing did become a OnceASeason RunningGag, though, with the other twerps sometimes getting involved either along with him or in his place.)

** Paul will forever be remembered for his [[TrainingFromHell physical abuse of Chimchar]]. While such a thing is abhorrent, it was demonstrated throughout the show Paul will simply release Pokémon if they don't meet his standards immediately and treats the Pokémon he keeps exceptionally well. Despite Chimchar being the exception to the rule, fans will paint Paul as somebody who regularly abuses all of his Pokémon.

** ''Wing'' even has a non-human example: The Leo mobile suit used early in the series has a reputation all over the internet (even on this Wiki) as being a shoddy piece of crap that falls apart if it's so much as breathed upon. Granted, it '''is''' a MookMobile that's 15 years old when the show starts, but Leos tend to do quite when not facing a SuperPrototype, and going purely by the numbers they're are actually superior to some better-liked ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' staples like the Zaku II. The main problem is that unlike the Zaku, the Leo never really got the chance to shine and didn't have a dedicated pilot like Char Aznable to show what they could do; the show's CharClone Zechs Merquise only gets a couple of battles in his Leo (managing to simply stalemate the Wing Gundam in free-fall) before he pulls the Leos' SuperPrototype, the Tallgeese, [[BreakOutTheMuseumPiece out of the museum]].

** Kakashi very often suffers from this. He invariably teaches Sasuke the Chidori and all of a sudden he plays favourites and all he wants is to train Sasuke, while hating Naruto, ignoring that teaching Sasuke this was for Sasuke's own good ''beyond'' mere strength as a ninja, and generally Kakashi plays favorites the ''least'' out of the various sensei (like Gai with Lee, Asuma with Shikamaru, or Kurenai with Hinata.)

** [[spoiler:[[GreaterScopeVillain Kaguya]]]], who was supposed to be the all-power EldritchAbomination supreme BigBad of the entire Naruto universe, will never in a million years be able to live down [[DistractedByTheSexy falling victim to]] Naruto's Sexy Reverse Harem Technique and then [[AntiClimax going down like a bitch.]]

** Boruto himself has fallen prey to this trope. Yes, he started out as a BrattyHalfPint with simmering resentment over his father not being there in person for important events (such as the aforementioned incident of Naruto sending a Shadow Clone to celebrate Himawari's birthday party) and over Naruto just generally being busy with work instead of spending time with him. The thing is, though, Boruto eventually does get CharacterDevelopment as he comes to better appreciate the importance of his father's work [[spoiler:as the Hokage]] and becomes less selfish overall. However, certain sections of the fanbase will ALWAYS see Boruto as an AttentionWhore ''par excellence'' (something not helped by the fact that Naruto, who was also that way at that age, [[StepfordSmiler at least had an excuse for it]], in contrast to Boruto who grew up more privileged) and will NEVER forgive him for his initial dismissive-to-the-point-of-disrespectful reaction to [[ParentalAbandonment Naruto's]] [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer past]] (to the point of flinging Naruto's old jacket out a window). On a related note, there are some fans who will immediately point to Boruto's admiration of Sasuke despite the man being a (mostly) DisappearedDad as a terminal case of SelectiveObliviousness.

** Mineta, TheScrappy of the manga, will never live down the time he said to Eri, a little girl, survivor of a physically abusive father, that [[TheJailBaitWait he can't wait to see her in ten years, making a pass at her]]. The readers were so disgusted by this, that despite ''many'' redeeming moments that he had later on and much work being put in to make him more likable, the readers still continue to bring the moment up as a reason to hate him. [[ThisIsUnforgivable Despite any attempts made by the author, no amount of good deeds, character development, or sympathetic moments could ever redeem him in their eyes]].

*** This is pretty much intentional though, since even in Toriyama's version (non-''GT''), he is portrayed as being all too eager to protect his inflated reputation (as shown when he risks ''death'' in a match against Trunks in a later tournament). Toriyama sort of subverted/played with this: In the final arc, the Super Genki Dama is only successful due to Satan having inflated his reputation to the extent he is famous worldwide as savior of the world, whereas 99.99% of Earth's population is "Goku? Who is Goku?". A case for "humility isn't always a good thing".

* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'' has poor, poor Orihime Inoue. You get kidnapped by the Arrancar ONCE, and suddenly, you're the [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Princess Peach]] of anime. Even [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Kairi]] didn't have it this bad. And while captive, she was ''tortured'' and ''abused'' so much, for literally no reason at that, and it only pushed the poor girl past breaking point even more, where she can only cry to the person she loved the most, who had been ''killed'' right in front of her by her captor Ulquiorra just to torture her even more, for help. And what makes it worse for her is that she's such a gentle girl that she even ''healed'' Loly and Menoly, the two Arrancars who attacked her out of spite.
** Not to mention, it just wasn't a ''mere'' kidnapping. Ichigo and the others were barely recovering after a huge battle ''that they lost'', Orihime was trying to cope with her feelings for Ichigo ''and'' her recent depression over feeling left behind. She does fine for a bit, with Rangiku helping her to deal with her jealousy of Rukia and Rukia herself taking it upon herself to train Orihime for the fight with the Arrancar. It was only after that when Ulquiorra came with the SadisticChoice. The radical detractors of Orihime's character basically threw every insult they could at her and wanted her to die, but other sides of the fandom were disappointed that, in their view, she folded after promising to herself that she would no longer be a burden to Ichigo and fight alongside him and everyone else... (Though she ultimately managed to get out of the pit and, in the Vandereich arc, she finally got to fight alongside Ichigo and the other TrueCompanions -- '''without''' folding. Tragically, by that point, her rep had been solidified for a good eight years.)
** Orihime's screams for Ichigo to help her know what to do during the climax of the Lust arc is most likely the biggest NeverLiveItDown moment for Orihime in the entire fandom. SayMyName is a VERY common trope in manga ''as a whole'' and Manga/{{Bleach}} isn't an exception, many other characters have also screamed each other's names at least once per chapter, and Orihime ''only'' took to screaming it repeatedly when she was [[HeroicBSOD having a massive meltdown because of all the physical and psychological trauma inflicted on the poor girl by Aizen and his arrancars]]. However, to a loud part of the fandom, that simply doesn't matter: Orihime can't even mutter Ichigo's name without fandom calling her "whore" and "clingy", or even worse, ''villainising'' her kindness and compassion, whereas everyone else can get away with it.
*** A good chunk of the negativity comes from just [[ArcFatigue how long]] she was captive.

** Chibiusa brainwashing her own father into kissing her as Black Lady (a deeply uncomfortable scene people who hadn't read the manga were not prepared for) did absolutely nothing to help her reputation of her having an [[OedipusComplex Elektra Complex.]]

''Franchise/SailorMoon'':

* There's one particular episode of ''Anime/SailorMoon Stars'' where Setsuna/Sailor Pluto scares the living daylights out of the girls on about three occasions by popping up out of the blue. The girls are eating ice cream when she appears. She pops up holding a popsicle. This episode made her famous in fandom for the StealthHiBye.

** In the first season finale, the Inner Senshi all died and Usagi had to go on to fight Queen Beryl and then Metalia alone, drawing strength from her friends' spirits to keep her going. The only other season to do anything remotely similar was Stars, but from the way some fans talk about it you'd think every single big battle ended with Usagi whimpering as all her friends tuned into cannon fodder and finally using her power when their ghosts came back to pat her back. Website/ThisVeryWiki has even accused her of such.

*** Usagi's Crystal incarnation is forever treated like a pathetic selfish bitch who only wants her True Love and doesn't care about her friends despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.
*** The Inners are forever accused of "being desperate to find husbands by 15" because of their ''past life'' romances with the Shitennou and daring to be sad when the guys were killed. (Granted, the scene wasn't handled well, but still) There's also constant cries of "FauxActionGirl!!" over them being shown to get hurt or flattened during battles instead of curb-stomping every enemy they came across, even though in the end they always managed to pull themselves up and kick some ass anyway.

** Ranma Saotome claims he WouldntHitAGirl three times at most. Possibly influenced by the prevalence of the ArmorPiercingSlap, fanfic Ranma is infamous for looking down on women's combat abilities, something he never does in either version of the canon, and for refusing to strike back at women even if they're actively trying to kill him.

** On that note, the fandom also tends to make jokes about Midoriya himself, on his tendency to break his bones whenever he used his acquired Quirk, One for All. Along with all of his corresponding hospital/infirmary visits.
