* OneUp: Just like the original Super Mario games, a green mushroom gives you a 1-Up. There are also moons that give you a 3-Up; between the generous number of 1-Up mushrooms and many a OneUpSampo (not to mention the bonus game, which can give you up to eight 1-Ups), it is very easy to cap at 99 lives (or 999 on GBA) before you're even halfway through the game.

Koji Kondo isn't a trope. Deleting YMMVs. Mario isn't really a widget series. It's the most platformiest platformer. Do people pothole in America every time to Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged series.....don't answer that. Holding down a button is in no way "mashing".

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Bowser kidnaps Peach, but instead of heading directly to Bowser's castle to save her, Mario heads all over Dinosaur Land, systematically killing each member of Bowser's extended family one by one. Talk about cold-blooded.
** Not really, it's the only way to get to open up Bowser's Valley. Averted when you use the Star Road to warp to the last level almost as soon as you beat the first castle.
* ScrappyLevel: Underwater levels, because you move painfully slow.

** At the price of awfully remade music.
*** It's the same, it just sounds awful due to the tinny GBA speaker and the new abundance of SFX.
**** But some of the songs (like Valley of Bowser, the Final Boss, Vanilla Dome, the Ending, Player Down) in that port are a total mess (wrong notes, wrong instruments, wrong pitch), they make Super Mario Advance 3 and 4 sound good in comparison.
**** It's not quite the same. The SNES' sound module was actually extremely sophisticated for its time, and the GBA's sound chip is no match for it. For instance, the [=SPC700=]'s 4-point Gaussian interpolation has no equivalent on the GBA, which sounds like it uses a zeroth-order sample-and-hold technique. As a result, GBA games sound tinny and noisy even on audiophile headphones.
**** It's also a little lacking in the porting of the visuals (Mario and Luigi look a little pale for starters), but the enhancements and additions to the gameplay more than make up for these shortcomings.
** The game also included sprite-based Yoshi-Coins (which could be used in castles, and in more creative ways), and new animated cutscenes (in addition to the old ones that played when a castle was destroyed).
** It also shaded the last few rows of tiles, so pits could be clearly seen on the tiny GBA screen.

This game is most notable for having introduced the world to Yoshi, Mario's now-famous dinosaur friend and his ability to eat the baddies. The game was followed-up in 1995 with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, a prequel starring Yoshi as the player character and featuring Mario as an infant. The game is fondly remembered as one of the highest highlights of the SuperMarioBros series, alongside the classic SuperMarioBros 3.
