* This is an effective means of breaking the "Psychopath" and "Murderhobo" playstyles of {{Munchkin}}s: by illustrating the consequences of their actions, they come to see that the game they're playing isn't just a "game" with one-dimensional [=NPCs=], but an interactive story with fleshed-out characters, whom would realistically respond with grief and anger should a Munchkin player kill their loved ones in cold blood. This doesn't always mean punishing the player directly: a convincing TearJerker can make a Munchkin [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone reflect on their character's actions]], and abandon their former playstyles as they become more immersed in the story.

* Soap's elimination on ''WebAnimation/InanimateInsanity''. Fans voted her off due to her jerkish behavior the previous episode or two, however in her final episode, she received some much-needed development and hints of a HeelFaceTurn, making her sendoff (and likely a few fans who voted for her) rather sad.

In unusually cruel and dark cases the player is simply punched without there being a villain, or anybody else, to blame and take revenge on. Or even any other kind of positive resolution.
