* ''Anime/ElCazadorDeLaBruja'': The trope is actually cited by name by Blue Eyes when she cuts off Nadie's bank accounts to punish her for refusing to surrender Ellis to her authority, though she notes it won't actually stop Nadie, so she's mostly doing it to be petty and mean, but also to send Nadie a message.

* ''Theatre/TheMerchantOfVenice'': When Antonio is forced to default on a massive loan from his enemy Shylock, the agreed-upon penalty is a pound of flesh, which [[ScrewTheMoneyThisIsPersonal Shylock demands]] rather than be bought off by Antonio's friends. Instead, Portia impersonates a lawyer, uses LoopholeAbuse to get Antonio off the hook and charge Shylock with attempted murder, and forces Shylock to give up his estate on pain of death -- and to convert to Christianity, effectively forcing him out of work as a moneylender.

Added wick to Sub Trope page

An aversion of OffscreenVillainDarkMatter. Could overlap with JustLikeRobinHood or InvoluntaryCharityDonation if they then give the money away to the poor. Subtrope of RichesToRags. A destitute villain could suffer DefeatMeansMenialLabor as a further humiliation. Contrast MoneyIsNotPower, where the evil rich people may remain rich but still learn the lesson that money is not as omnipotent as they thought it was... and very often [[ScrewTheMoneyThisIsPersonal that]] is [[EatTheRich the very last lesson they learn]].

In financial circles, this is the monetary equivalent of a GroinAttack...or [[FateWorseThanDeath worse]]. Unsurprisingly, in some stories, this will also lead to [[ThisMeansWar the inevitable, rapid escalation]] to a prim and proper FinalBattle.

* In the remake of ''Film/FunWithDickAndJane'', the Harpers successfully steal the entirety of the savings of Dick's CorruptCorporateExecutive ex-boss (who bankrupted the company Enron-style and ran away with billions) and divide the money through all of the company's employees in a [[InvoluntaryCharityDonation "relief fund" made in the boss's name]] so he cannot do anything to protest the theft without showing his hand as the man who made those employees destitute. The boss, on national television, is told that his net worth dropped overnight from billions to only five thousand dollars and change.

What do you do when the BigBad is a CorruptCorporateExecutive who doesn't even fit with EvenEvilHasLovedOnes? Or a SmugSnake and RulesLawyer who always keeps their practices just this side of legal? This particular villain doesn't even have EvenEvilHasStandards or a MoralityChain to yank to try and keep them from doing what they do. And don't count on the legal system for help. Much of what they do either doesn't count as a crime by the laws written, either because of ArtisticLicenseLaw for the writing, or if ShownTheirWork, it's a case of ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney and/or ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem on an evil scale. Even [[AppealToForce bringing a gun (or a tough pair of mitts) to this fight]] is too risky, because of the aforementioned "they own the law" point, [[TooKinkyToTorture that they don't care about getting hurt]], and the possibility that [[BiggerStick they have bigger guns]], [[JustYouMeAndMyGuards lots of hired protectors]], [[MadeOutToBeAJerkass the media's favor]] and [[SelfDefenseRuse are waiting for the opportunity to cut loose with them]]. So how do you defeat an enemy who has no loved ones to either hurt or use to reset their ethics, who has the money and the power and doesn't fear the law?
