* ''FengShui'''s monsters all have a horrific appearance, and monsters (both PCs and bad guys) can choose to take a Creature Power called "Brain Shredder," which basically provokes a fear response so strong that it can actually cause damage.

** Willow has two game faces, her lesser used "Light Willow" look and her more well-known "Dark Willow" persona that comes complete with black eyes, black hair, and evil face veins.

* Demons possessing a person's body in ''{{Supernatural}}'' look exactly the same as a regular human, except when their eyes go solid black. Used quite often as a [[TheReveal dramatic reveal]] on the show.

TruthInTelevision as many are the small, harmless animals whose only means of defense is to suddenly flash vivid colors or markings, or seemingly double in size, or basically just scare the crap out of any potential predator (see also CuteButCacophonic). This is a common trick for [[OurVampiresAreDifferent vampires]], [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demons]], [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent werewolves]] and other [[OurMonstersAreDifferent monsters]]. Think of it as a super-fast OneWingedAngel act, but with typically less power than a full transformation.

Sometimes though, they just want to play with their food. They drop the facade and show their [[ThisWasHisTrueForm true form]], getting scary eyes, growing [[FangsAreEvil fangs]], horns, PointyEars and FemmeFatalons or even claws. The changes can range from the purely cosmetic to the practical. In video games or RPG's, this usually affords attack bonuses or new forms of attack altogether. In film, tv, or literature it usually means any InnocentBystanders nearby just dropped a rung in the food chain.

Most supernatural monstrosities and [[ScaleOfScientificSins scientific sins]] against nature that maintain a {{Masquerade}} can hide their [[RedRightHand true nature]] with a glamour, or otherwise [[ShapeShifting Shape Shift]] into a [[GlamourFailure nearly seamless]] human disguise.

* In ''[[FullmetalAlchemist Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood]]'', after Selim Bradley reveals his true identity as Pride, he's consistently drawn with sharper features and more menacing eyes instead of the almost chibi appearance he had before.

** In "White Night" Harry, before preparing for a ritual, mentions to Bob "let me put my magic face on".

* Mimi from ''SuperPaperMario'' is a ShapeShifter, but usually just looks like a cute green-skinned girl with pigtails and an UnlimitedWardrobe. That is, until you [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dXrWbvC__Y&feature=related actually fight her]] and she [[NightmareFuel transforms into a monstrosity]] akin to ''TheThing''.

* Occasionally a seemingly-innocuous character turns out to be the Big Bad and we don't know it until he gets his GameFace-- but the effect borders on NightmareRetardant since the original actor was ''chosen'' to look especially unthreatening. The two best examples are [[spoiler: [[http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa315/jungdrachepoldi/Wolf/Wolf_80.jpgJames Spader]]]] in ''Wolf'' and [[spoiler: [[http://content8.flixster.com/photo/12/34/54/12345474_gal.jpg Edward Herrmann]]]] in ''TheLostBoys''.

And then you confront him on the Palamecia, at which point he kills a good number of people with magic and shows the heroes his true form, the fal'Cie Barthandelus.]]

* Like Leland Gaunt, Carmilla of the ''WhateleyUniverse'' only ''looks'' human. She's a budding CosmicHorror. In "The Turks and the Geek", she holds Shadowolf with dozens of tentacles and splits her face open down the middle, revealing something so horrific that he wets himself.

* [[HannaIsNotABoysName Casimiro]] turns into some kind of skeletal bleach-white bat thing [[http://hanna.aftertorque.com/?p=571 when he's threatening Hanna]], which may be on purpose to intimidate him or just because the guy's a MoodSwinger.

* ''BuffyTheVampireSlayer''. Vampires have a human face, and a demonic face. The demonic face has bumps along their foreheads, yellow eyes, and of course, fangs. Some vampires were {{Mode Lock}}ed into their demon face, such as The Master and Kakistos, presumably because of their long age. It's implied that their demon face is stronger, given Xander told Angel to put his GameFace on during the Season One Finale, and it's confirmed in the spin-off (see below).
** On the flip side, there was {{Dracula}}, who had only a human face -- but had perpetual fangs. Spike said it was due to gypsy magic.

** Vampires' demonic faces become much worse (and the advantages and drawbacks both get amped up) in the dimension of Pylea. Angel changes his face during a fight, and turns into a ferocious demon with green skin, red eyes, and horns. He could barely control his bloodlust in this form and nearly kills all his friends, and when he finally changes back to his human form, he's horrified.
** Doyle had one too, his demon form has green skin and covered in spikes. He's stronger in demon form, but prefers his human form, but this is because he likes to pass for (relatively) human, not due to bloodlust.
