* DidNotDoTheResearch: Possibly in-universe. Ira states that they need to get hold of some quantity of selenium; the problem is that he refers to gallons, when selenium is a solid at room temperature. Of course, this is {{Foreshadowing}} the eventual weaponization of Head & Shoulders, but Ira didn't know that at the time. The writers are probably to blame; one imagines that they glanced at the back of the bottle, noticed selenium sulfide at the top of the list of ingredients, and extrapolated from the liquid nature of shampoo that selenium must also be liquid. One also wonders if any of these guys [[CriticalResearchFailure has ever tried adding sugar to their coffee.]]

** In a sense, it's not as crazy as it sounds - the periodic table isn't arbitrary, its organization reflects properties of the elements in the table, so the geometric relationship between elements as displayed on the table ''can'' be relevant to their chemical relationship in reality.
-------Of course, in this case, the conclusion is still utter nonsense.

* DidNotDoTheResearch: There's actually no selenium in Head and Shoulders.
** It does, it just makes up less than 1% of the formula.
** More like the poster of this DidNotDoTheResearch the various types of Head and Shoulders have various active ingredients the strongest non-prescription version of the product contains 1% selenium sulfide while the weakest version doesn't have it has its active ingredient.
* ElementsDoNotWorkThatWay: the selenium-poisoning solution for killing the nitrogen-based alien life forms and the whole (lack of) logic behind it.

A little later, Ira finds out that myriad single-celled life-forms dwell in the fluid, evolve at an incredible rate, even while he's watching. What first seems like a sure ticket to Sweden for the Nobel Prize soon develops into a nightmare: by evolving and adapting at that unbelievably fast rate, the aliens start spreading out, and the military comes in. Now it all comes down to what Darwin so rightfully stated: survival of the fittest...

I've watched the Evolution cartoon on BBC in 2005, and it's actually not half bad. I would say it's average at best.

** For those of you wondering, it's SoBadItsHorrible, due to how the animated versions of Ira, Harry, Allison, Wayne, General Woodman, and Deke and Danny (who is renamed Derek) no longer look anything like their respective actors (especially the formerly-balding Woodman, who is now given a full head of hair).
