* The first few Literature/AbleTeam novels would start with the eponymous team rushing to an aircraft, whereupon they'd be briefed in mid-flight about the latest crisis.
* Subverted in several of the Literature/{{Quiller}} novels when the title character would be rushed into The Bureau with a police escort, then be told to just hang around and make himself comfortable as the secret spy organisation didn't have a briefing or access lined up yet. Needless to say this "hurry-up-and-wait" approach plays havoc with Quiller's nerves.

* The 2012 play ''The Letter of Last Resort'' by David Greig (aired as a BBC radio drama and played in the Tricycle Theater) follows a Prime Minister late in her first day in office when she must, as per protocol, write a new Letter of Last Resort for the nation's missile submarines. As a NaiveNewcomer, her advisor explains her what the Letters are supposed to do and she then struggles with what the letter should say; [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt considering what would be supposedly happening]] to the United Kingdom if they are ever opened. She tries several drafts, going from being pretty plain in her supposed final orders up to trying to provide comforting words to the imaginary captain.

This will often include the entire relevant BackStory of the location or characters that the team will encounter, as well as an outline of the planned course of action. Common statements that prompt it are "LetMeGetThisStraight", "Wait a minute", or {{Postponed Question}}s. Just as often, though, the scene will simply open with the description.

* At the start of the ''Series/{{Firefly}}'' follow-up film, ''Film/{{Serenity}}'', Captain Malcolm Reynolds briefs Zoe and Jayne about the heist they're going to pull off while driving their hovercraft to the heist. [[redirect:{{EnRouteSum-Up}}]]When the FiveManBand (or similar team) has a new mission in store, the MissionControl or an equivalent character (TheHero, TheSmartGuy) will almost always explain the situation '''on the way''', not beforehand.

This {{En Route Sum-Up}} will often include the entire relevant BackStory of the location or characters that the team will encounter, as well as an outline of the planned course of action. Common statements that prompt it are "LetMeGetThisStraight", "Wait a minute", or a {{Postponed Question}}s. Just as often, though, the scene will simply open with the description.

Narrative reasons for this:
# Traveling in the CoolCar, or [[WalkAndTalk simply walking]], makes for a more interesting background visual than standing around a table in the HomeBase. Just as the crew is obligated to NeverGiveTheCaptainAStraightAnswer, so too must TheCaptain wait until a narrative-appropriate time to tell the crew what's going on.
# The mission may be so urgent that there's NoTimeToExplain beforehand.

During this talk, characters may be seen suiting up and otherwise preparing, despite their presumably not ''yet'' knowing the exact nature of the mission. This can lead to some FridgeLogic… what did TheHero say in order to get everyone to go? Also, [[GenreBlind did she consider]] whether a member of her not-yet-informed team just might have, in storage, [[ItMayHelpYouOnYourQuest a handy tool for this particular job]] (which would be inconvenient to go back for)?

This can be outright perplexing if one of the in-the-dark characters is the vehicle's ''driver'' (or pilot), given that he presumably doesn't yet know the destination. (Does the team follow some traditional "pre-route", such as a circle around the block, before "really" embarking?).

This is a common practice for the duo at the center of a CrimeAndPunishmentSeries or BuddyCopShow.
