In the UK, this genre was adopted not long after it's creation, with groups in Brixton, South London forming their own take on the sound. This resulted in it gaining worldwide popularity, particularly in New York City, where artists began creating their own version of the sound, which blew up into the mainstream in 2019 and 2020 through the rise of rappers Pop Smoke (who was tragically killed in early 2020) and Fivio Foreign.
