** Avatar Kyoshi found out she was the Avatar at 16 but not in the traditional way (it also was not her birthday). The previous Avatar Kuruk's friends were unable to find her for some fourteen years due to her being the child of outlaws and not staying in one place for long enough for their methods to track her down. They ended up picking the wrong kid. Kyoshi worked in the estate where said wrong kid, Yun, was being trained for a few years and then they figured out it was her, not him.

* The premise of the series ComicBook/DarkChylde is that the main character develops the ability to become monsters from her nightmares starting at age 16.
* In the first issue of ComicBook/SupergirlBeingSuper, Kara turns sixteen. Or at least, so she approximates - no one knows her exact age or birthday because she was found in a field years ago. At sixteen is when Kara realizes she's an alien.

Subtrope of LiminalTime. Often overlaps with BirthdayBeginning as the precise moment at which everything hits the fan. Compare Bittersweet17, for when seventeen is more of a melancholic growing-up age, and ThirteenthBirthdayMilestone for when 13 is sometimes considered a similarly dangerous age. See Also: ABirthdayNotABreak, when bad things happen on any particular birthday; DiedOnTheirBirthday; when a character dies on their own birthday. If the "danger" is supernatural and it's not just a coincidence, it overlaps with SpecialOccasionsAreMagic.

* An 80s PublicServiceAnnouncement from the Advertising/PartnershipToEndAddiction displays a literally dangerous 16th birthday. In it, the narrator tells a story about a boy named Warren, who celebrated his sixteenth birthday by smoking crack, while footage of a young man getting dressed up in a nice suit plays. At the end, it's revealed that the young man on screen is dead, and being dressed by a mortician for the funeral, as the narrator concludes that Warren wanted to start a new life, and that's exactly what he did.
