* ''Literature/TheSupervillainySaga'' by Creator/CTPhipps more or less runs on this trope. Gary Karkofsky aka Merciless the Supervillain Without Mercy battles against a [[UsefulNotes/TheSilverAgeOfComicBooks Silver Age]] set of villains, a NinetiesAntihero Team, a SupermanSubstitute as well as the Justice League, a xenomorph, a Biblical Nephilim kaiju, and an {{Expy}} for Lex Luthor. It is exactly as awesome and terrifying as it sounds. It reaches its apex when the heroes catch a Reaper Husk specifically created for [[MookMaker turning enemies into husks]] tries to huskify Flood Forms...[[HoistByHisOwnPetard only for the Flood-Husks to turn on them and prove even harder to fight]]. The sequels are sure to take it even farther.

* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' is basically SteamPunk [[ChildSoldiers teenage warriors]] with [[DualWielding dual-wielded]] [[AbsurdlySharpBlade super-sharp swords]] and [[BuildingSwing rope grapples]], pitted against {{nigh invulnerab|ility}}le [[ImAHumanitarian man-eating]] [[OurGiantsAreBigger giants]] that are [[KillAllHumans hellbent on wiping out humanity]]. Sorry, it's probably best to just give you a second or two to let the awesomeness of that last sentence soak in.

** ''Film/JurassicPark'' has the ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' vs. the particularly large, aggressive and ruthless ''Velociraptor'' known as The Big One. The Big One [[CurbStompBattle doesn't make it]].

Over the course of the show, he has been put (amongst others) against [[{{Cthulhumanoid}} Alien Cthulhu]], a MonsterClown, an EvilSorcerer and his DarkMagicalGirl niece, a MadScientist EvilutionaryBiologist, an AncientConspiracy of [[UsefulNotes/TheKnightsTemplar literal]] KnightTemplar CapeBusters, [[ANaziByAnyOtherName Nazi-esque]] ScaryDogmaticAliens and an EldritchAbomination. * OlderThanFeudalism: The Battle of Zama. A climactic battle between two of the mightiest empires in history commanded by the two greatest generals of the SwordAndSandal era. On the Carthaginian side is the MagneticHero, Hannibal Barca. On the Roman side is the {{Cincinnatus}} type Scipio Africanus. Who will win? [[spoiler:Rome.]] To put the Battle of Zama into perspective, you have Roman legions being led by an [[BunnyEarsLawyer eccentric general]] who really should not have this position under normal circumstances versus the aforementioned MagneticHero leading a [[MultinationalTeam diverse mercenary army]] and ''War Elephants''. By all accounts it was epic.
* Rome was no stranger to {{invok|edTrope}}ing this by capturing exotic animals found throughout the empire and releasing them to fight each other to the death for the entertainment of the masses. Wanna see a bear and a tiger maul each other? The Colosseum likely had such a fight ready and plenty more where that came from.
* Waterloo, with the real-life (And significantly more badass) [[RedshirtArmy Redcoat Army]] under the [[RedBaron Iron Duke]] [[UsefulNotes/TheDukeOfWellington Arthur Wellesley]] up against the Grande Armee under Bona Fide MagnificentBastard UsefulNotes/NapoleonBonaparte (Who also happened to be [[TheEmperor l'Empereur]]) in the final battle of the 26-year long French Revolutionary wars, with General Blücher and the Prussians finishing off Napoleon. Blücher had of course defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Leipzig, the largest battle in Europe until UsefulNotes/WorldWarI.

** Lions are cool, but Cape Buffalo are awesome, and a herd of 1000+ Cape Buffalo is a damned force of nature. Cape Buffalo put up with absolutely no crap from anyone or anything, and from lions in particular. There is plenty of documented evidence of a lion attacking a Cape Buffalo calf and immediately getting the surprise of its soon-to-over-life when several hundred adult Cape Buffalo show up and promptly proceed to gore, stomp, and batter the lion to death. It's doesn't even have to be an aggressive lion, as it's been shown that Cape Buffalo will attack lions that are just in the area and not making any predatory moves at all. Apparently, just "being a lion" is a capital offense as far as Cape Buffalo are concerned.

* UsefulNotes/NazisWithGnarlyWeapons versus UsefulNotes/RedsWithRockets clad in {{Badass Cape}}s or Nice Hats, with a LensmanArmsRace of MoreDakka, {{Macross Missile Massacre}}s, {{BFG}}s, TankGoodness and {{Cool Plane}}s, breaking the historical record on largest and bloodiest battles on dozens of occasions. Some say it weren't two nukes that convinced Japan to surrender, it was [[BadassArmy the same Soviet Army]] kicking down their door on August 9-11.

The 2007 and 2008 {{UsefulNotes/Wimbledon}} Men Singles Championship matches were noted for featuring the two players in their prime fighting tooth and nail for every point.
* UsefulNotes/AssociationFootball rivalries. Especially Brazil vs Germany - only two games "that counted" were played in this rivalry up to and including the 2014 world cup -- the 2002 final and the 2014 CurbStompBattle in the semifinal where Germany annihilated Brazil 7-1 and it seemed like they were going easy towards the end.
* UsefulNotes/IceHockey rivalries. Especially Canada vs Russia, Finland vs Sweden and USA vs Czech Republic.
* Battle of Hampton Roads, American Civil War. In the Grey Corner weighing in at 4000 long tons, the mighty casemate ironclad, and undefeated March 8th champion, The CSS Virginia! In the Blue Corner, displacing a tidy 987 long tons, all the way from New York, the raft body turret ship, USS Monitor! FIGHT! Notably both ships lived on to tell the tale, but as contemporary observers would have it "every other ship just became obsolete".
* UsefulNotes/MariaTheresa vs. UsefulNotes/FrederickTheGreat. It was the ultimate clash of the baroque times.
* The Native Americans and the Vikings once got into a conflict with each other in 1000 AD.
* [[UsefulNotes/FinnsWithFearsomeForests Finland]] vs [[UsefulNotes/NazisWithGnarlyWeapons Germany]] during the final years of World War II. Both cool - between 66th and 70th latitudes North and [[SnowMeansDeath from autumn 1944 to spring 1945]] and awesome - as Lapland is ''vast'' and extremely sparsely inhabited.
* One story had a [[UsefulNotes/NepaliWithNastyKnives Gurkha]] returning home over a RopeBridge, only to be attacked by a snow leopard. Unfortunately, nobody was around to see the fight, but they knew it happened because the Gurkha returned home with the thing's skin draped over his back.
* Unfortunately it has been overhyped to death and back, but you just know when the Quarterbacks are Manning on one side and Brady on the other, a showdown of epic proportions is about to happen. Older brother Peyton Manning holds most records worth holding in the NFL whereas Tom Brady is one of the most successful athletes in terms of championships won - and Eli Manning beat Brady at the Super Bowl twice - denying him a perfect season in one of those games. Those names will go down in sports history and sports fans of the 2000s and 2010s were fortunate enough to see them battle it out live and in color. It must be noted, however, that both the Mannings and Brady were fully aware of how overhyped these games were and did everything they could to downplay it; their attitude being that quarterbacks from opposing teams aren't on the field at the same time and are playing the opponents' ''defense'', not the other quarterback.
* Perhaps the most high-stakes election in the history of [[UsefulNotes/WestGermany The Bonn Republic]] was that of 1980 - Helmut Schmidt (SPD) of Hamburg at the head of a crumbling SPD-FDP coalition against Franz Josef Strauß (CSU) of Bavaria leading a resurgent CDU/CSU. The former would go on be one of Germany's most beloved ex-chancellors while the latter was a living legend among Bavarian conservatives and the devil incarnate among leftists already during his lifetime. Both men have airports named after them, which is a rarity in Germany[[note]]The only other airport named after a politician is the new Berlin Airport to be named for Willy Brandt, Schmidt's predecessor and the mayor of Berlin when the Wall was built, but that airport is currently stuck in DevelopmentHell[[/note]]. Strauß for who the election was to be the pinnacle of a storied career of federal and statewide office dating back to 1949 did his best and campaigned up and down the country against Schmidt whose slogans included "Stoppt Strauß" and "A man who [like Strauß] has no control over himself should not be given control over Germany", often firing back in equal caliber (especially when there were hecklers in the audience). Ultimately Strauß achieved one of the best results in CDU/CSU history but not enough for an absolute majority while the FDP would enter into a coalition with the SPD one last time. Two years later, the FDP would switch sides, elevating Helmut Kohl (CDU) to the chancellorship; Strauß' long-time rival and by 1988 Strauß was dead.
* As ''Series/CrashCourse'' noted, pretty much every famous empire fought the Persians at some point or another. Meaning that the Persian Empire, one of histories first great empires, battled the Egyptian, Classical Greek, Macedonian Greek, Roman, Byzantine Roman, Arab, Turkic, Mongolian, Ottoman, Mughal, Russian, and British empires, peoples, and alliances.
* The 1582 UsefulNotes/CagayanBattles. First and last time in History in which [[EverythingsBetterWithSamurai Ronin samurai]] were pitted against [[DashingHispanic Spanish empire soldiers]].

In one corner was Lennox "the Lion", arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer in history and the ruler of the 1990s heavyweight scene, considered dominant among even other legends competing at the same time such as Holyfield, Bowe, Tyson, Foreman, and Holmes. In the other was "Dr. Ironfist", another contender for the greatest and the then-#1 contender who, along with his younger brother Wladimir (who admitted that ''Vitali'' was the better of them), would proceed to rule the next dozen years of the heavyweight division. Both were ''massive'' men (Vitali at 6'7 and 249 pounds and Lennox at 6'5 and 257 pounds) and some of the hardest punchers in the history of the sport, on top of being highly skilled technicians famous for administering completely one-sided [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomp battles]] on nearly all of their opponents. At the end of their respective careers, Lennox had beaten every man he'd ever fought[[note]]Hasim Rahman and Olive [=McCall=] had both scored upset knockout victories over him, but he avenged both losses in brutal early knockout rematches.[[/note]] and Vitali was basically undefeated[[note]]Chris Byrd technically "beat" him, but that's because Vitali forfeited after he tore his shoulder. So the match-up soon devolved into an ''utter war'' in which both fighters dished out and received MegatonPunch after MegatonPunch interspersed with bouts of wrestling in the clinch, pushing each others' stamina and durability to their absolute limits. Ultimately, while Vitali dominated the early rounds and was ahead on all the score cards at the time of stoppage by 4-2, he sustained a cut that Lennox repeatedly worked until Vitali's face was drenched in blood and he could hardly see, with a chunk of his upper face about to fall off. Lennox was bruised and cut himself (noticeably across his nose) but in a much better position than Vitali, who could have been blinded had the fight continued. The doctor wisely called off the fight before the two could go out for round 7, leaving Lennox Lewis as the victor. Vitali lobbied extensively for a rematch from literally the minute he heard about the stoppage, but Lennox, [[KnowWhenToFoldEm probably recognizing he had nothing to gain and had already pulled an improbable victory out of his ass the last time]], decided to retire.
