* Child Hating is a stigma the Childfree movement [[AcceptableLifestyleTargets has struggled with for a while]], and has caused them to develop a defensive attitude. Part of the problem is that there ''are'' real ([[VocalMinority and loud]]) examples of Child Haters within their ranks. The wide repertoire of derogatory slang used by Childfree people for "anyone that isn't us" (such as "breeders" and "moos" for people in general, and "crotchdroppings" for children) doesn't help their image, either.

It doesn not helm that Filch's job is to clean up after children and fix the things they break, which is a full-time job. The students of the school don't pay much attention to how hard he has to work, and often play pranks on him to make his life more hellish (Fred and George in particular). Resentment is totally understandable.

** Severus Snape has shades of this, but in his case, he might be more of a misanthrope rather than someone who hates children specifically.
*** He mainly just is an ass to people in general because he was such a social outcast when he was a kid, he wore that resentment on his shoulder, but the only child he really hates is Harry, mainly because he's Jame's son, and the whole "you look just like your father, Harry," thing.
