A shocking revelation, new information brought to light, revealing his [[BigBadFriend best friend]] is a [[EtTuBrute traitor]] or that nothing he did [[StatusQuoIsGod changed anything]] or maybe he can finally [[JadeColoredGlasses see the world the way it is]]. Or perhaps it's something even simpler, perhaps he just simply loses his [[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids idealism]]. He doesn't go into a HeroicBSOD, he just simply stands there, as a crowd of people moves around him (sometimes in fast-forward, even further isolating him). He's simply AloneInACrowd. Sometimes known as "calm in a chaotic world" if the crowd moves in fast-forward.

* ''SweeneyTodd'', during the song "The Epiphany". He's just lost the chance to [[spoiler: slit the throat of the man who ruined his life]] and is running through the streets in a rage, singing and brandishing his straight razors. Nobody takes 'any notice.

* In the first episode of ''{{Scrubs}}'', J.D. struggles to cope with his first day as a doctor, rubbing his temples while blurred, fast-motion people swarm around him.
** Happens again in "My TCW", J.D. wanders despondently down a hallway surrounded by busy hospital staff as he narrates how it's important to hold on to the relationships you have and laments how awful it feels to be alone - and providing the page quote.

** Actually, Sasuke was never shunned, at all. Maybe overlooked for a while by being compared to his bigger brother, but that was soon mended by his own training.
*** Arguably, Sasuke plays the trope straighter than the other characters. While Naruto and Gaara are excluded by others, Sasuke's exclusion is entirely INTERNAL. In school, he's sort of looked to as a paragon. The girls all have crushes, and the boys resent him, for being both superior and aloof. Of course, he's aloof because of past tragedy and feels that he is a completely different sort of person from the others around him. The most touching part about his StartOfDarkness (no spoilers in this part, YouShouldKnowThisAlready) is that, as he leaves, his stoicism breaks for a few seconds where he laments that he's not like Naruto and Sakura, that he can't belong the way they do. Earning respect and admiration has never been his goal. But, for a short time, he thought that maybe he could learn to enjoy a life like that. He even thanks Sakura for trying to stop him from leaving, but interpret that "Thank you" however you like. Cue timeskip in the custody of a menacing pedophile, and the seething rage of having to follow Kabuto's orders, and [[spoiler: he's become King of the Jerkass, and then progresses into BigDamnVillain territory with a YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness moment in recent chapters to possibly the only character less useful than Sakura. Still, I predict that there will be attempts to appeal to our humanity in the future, and I will continue to hate him.]]
