!!The episode provides examples of:

* AdaptedOut: Clay does not appear in this version.
* AmbiguouslyGay: The makeup artist horror, given his outfit, profession, and mannerisms.
* DeathByAdaptation: Unlike the book, [[spoiler: the Morris family wins a car after surviving Horrorland -- and then are shown to drive dangling onto the edge of a cliff, which the Horror host refers to as a cliffhanger ending. We then see an elderly Horror couple watching the end of the show.]]
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: The host of ''Raw Deal'' announces that they are going to commercial, just as the show itself cuts to commercial.
* LighterAndSofter: Where the book plays the premise straight, much of the episode (particularly the ''Raw Deal'' segments) is turned into a BlackComedy of sorts.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: “Holly Tosis”, a monster version of Vanna White. Also a PunnyName.
* NotAMask: Near the end of the story when Lizzie and her entire family gets cornered by hordes of Horrors, a frustrated Lizzie -- who's still thinking the Horrors are merely actors -- grab a nearby Horror's face and tugs at it, intending to see who's under that mask. Unfortunately, the Horrors are ''real'' monster.

!!This book provides examples of:

* AlwaysChaoticEvil: The [=HorrorLand=] monsters, who run a [[AmusementParkOfDoom deadly amusement park]] to kill families for fun. They may act welcoming and friendly at times, but don't let this fool you -- [[FauxAffablyEvil it's an act]]. They'd serve you up for lunch as soon as amuse you. And their idea of "amusing people" is to scare them to death or put them in lethal traps.
* AmusementParkOfDoom: [=HorrorLand=], where the customers go to die in the rides or become monster munch.
* ChekhovsHobby: Luke's pinching hobby turns out to be key to beating the Horrors.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Luke is the foolish to Lizzy's responsible.
* HallOfMirrors: [=HorrorLand=] is home to a Hall of Mirrors with the slogan "Reflect Before You Enter. No-one May Ever See You Again". The Hall of Mirrors traps the three kids in separate rooms and [[TheWallsAreClosingIn the walls move in to crush them]]. At the last second, the floor opens and the kids slide out safely.
** [[CanonDiscontinuity Oddly enough]], mirrors are banned at [=HorrorLand=] in the spin-off series because [[spoiler: they are portals to Panic Park.]]
* ImmoralRealityshow: The entire park is designed around humans getting hurt and killed for the entertainment of monsters.
* ShowWithinAShow: Late in the story, Lizzy and her family end up being captured by the Horrors and put on a TV game show for monsters, intended to end with them being killed for the audience's amusement.
* TheWallsAreClosingIn: The house of mirrors ends in a room where this happens. [[spoiler: The floor drops out at the very last second.]]
