* AwesomeMcCoolname: Lady Eris the head vampire. Daisy believes there's no way it can be her real one. [[spoiler: As it turns out, it ''is.'' ** Daisy remarks that she tries to tell tourists that this isn't Sunnydale, Forks, or Bon Temps when they underestimate how dangerous the supernatural world is.
** She also mentions having her own Scooby Gang a la Buffy.
** The House of Shadows where the vampires live is derogatorily known as Twilight Manor. Cooper also cheerfully states he's "Team Stefan" in the matter of Daisy's love triangle.

Added DiffLines:

* VainSorceress: Lady Eris. Despite having decades of knowledge she could put to good use, she prefers to spend her time throwing eternal, nineteenth-century style lavish parties with tableaus and beautiful gowns. She also wants everyone to worship and adore her, becoming quite put out when it turns out her power to seduce mortals doesn't work on her.

* ImmortalityBeginsAtTwenty: Most of the immortal characters introduced in the series are in the prime of life. Subverted with one of Stefan's lieutenants, Cooper, looks like he's seventeen. He's really over two-hundred years old.

* MindRape: Two tourists end up a victim of this as one of the ghouls brought in for crowd control at Halloween ends up ravening. [[spoiler: Daisy too, when she pitches a fit at Stefan and pushes his control too far.]]

Added DiffLines:

* NotGrowingUpSucks: Cooper the ghoul is a subversion of the usual immortal teenager trope. It's clear that being stuck in a teenage body has ''not'' been good for his state of mind. He covers it with a devil-may-care attitude, but ends up trying to get Daisy to kill him with ''dauda-dagr'' at the end of ''Autumn Bones'' in a SuicideByCop moment. Daisy decides to enlist his help to show a [[{{Wangst}} Wangsty]] sixteen year old why her desire to be turned into a teenage vampire is a very bad idea.

Added DiffLines:

* OnlyOneName: Daisy thinks Cooper is this. As it turns out, his name is [[spoiler: John and Cooper turns out to be his last name.]] He teases her since she never bothered to ask to find out his real name

Added DiffLines:

* PlotHole: Werewolves are stated to only turn when they reach puberty. So why do Cody's nephews run around growling, yipping, and playing like wolves if they're still children? It is suggested that their parents might be a bit ''too'' overindulgent on letting them get to know their heritage, but it still doesn't fully explain why they don't act like normal kids. Daisy even Lampshades this in her inner monologue.

Added DiffLines:

* TheCharmer: In contrast to his boss Stefan's ByronicHero tendencies, Cooper is this instead. Part of it is an act to keep from thinking too hard about the fact he's seventeen forever, but he definitely has a knack for getting people to like him. Daisy states instantly he's the ghoul she trusts the most after Stefan about a day after she's met him.
* TheClan: The Fairfax werewolves are one and fairly isolationist at that. It's to the point where Daisy remarks how odd it is that Cody's older brother and wife prefer to let their two sons be homeschooled because they consider regular school "dangerous" despite the fact the boys won't turn until their teens.

* DeadlyRoadTrip: Downplayed; Daisy's job is to prevent this where possible. She's in a constant tug of war with the tourism bureau - she keeps insisting that the supernatural ''is not safe'', what with fey luring children, hobgoblins running gambling scams, and predators in the wilds. The bureau insists sparkly fairies are better business and she needs to prevent bad events and bad press before it happens, to keep the tourists coming in.

* DontThinkFeel:
** Several of the minor powers that Daisy picks up along the way (a mental shield against psychic assault, a minor version of a veil) require a degree of this, which ends up difficult since she's constantly controlling her oversized emotions.
** Three different soothsayers end up telling Daisy her heart will decide the fate of the world. [[spoiler: She ends up invoking Armageddon nearly on instinct, not to claim power for herself, but for the chance to avert the destruction of everything she knows.]]

A major part of Daisy's attraction to Stefan is that she can completely throw away all the emotional control she's built up and count on him to drain her away from the danger point. When events get crazier, Daisy comes to rely on him and a few others for crowd control, siphoning off excess fear to keep tourists in the middle of a supernatural mess from panicking.

She's not technically an underworld goddess, so she can't create her own domain, thus the plan to take Hel's, treating it like her summer home to ease her CabinFever and replacing half the wilderness with a tacky resort. When asked what happens to the rest of the eldritch community when she's not there, it's clear she didn't think that far and doesn't care to, and believes they all can be "seasonal residents" just like her.]]

Added DiffLines:

** Daisy enlists Lee's computer skills by promising him a glimpse of Hel (he's a muggle, so he wants "in" to the eldritch community, and she needs to contact Hel to OK the idea anyway). Hel is doubly offended that Daisy brought a mortal to her domain uninvited, and that he bargained for her like a tourist trinket, and comes within inches of killing them both before Daisy admits her mistake.
** Knowing Sinclair's sister will be coming back to town to bully him into going home, knowing the family has access to unknown magic and made threats with a kind of ghost called a duppy, Daisy not only lets them set the location of the parley in a graveyard, but fails to anticipate Sinclair's mother showing up too, and doesn't immediately take control when they reveal they brought the duppy to unleash like a ghost bomb on the town unless Sinclair obeys. Hel is ''not amused''.

Added DiffLines:

* SexIsEvil: In the first book, Daisy flirts with this assumption, having had bad experiences (tails aren't common) and wary of triggering her Seven Deadlies. Love triangles and eldritch secrets don't help either. Her gaskets are blown after encountering the satyr though, and the pent up lust is enough to blow out random speakers. At which point, angels will have to all come down to stop them, and armageddon will be in full swing.

* OccultDetective: Daisy falls quite naturally into the genre, especially in the first book.

* TaughtByExperience: Daisy, especially at first, seems terribly young and inexperienced. She took Hel's job offer as a way to find a purpose and a way to do good, not because she had any innate skill or knowledge to bring to the job beyond being raised in the community. By the time of ''Autumn Bones'', she's quite capable of figuring out what allies to call and how to handle unique situations (the orgy) but is terribly tired of being blindsided by myths and creatures she hasn't learned about yet. Practically any being with power can feel it on her, and it forces Daisy to stop thinking of herself as just a fledgling ambassador and face that she's actually enforcing the peace.

* MagicalNegro: Played with and {{Lampshaded}} by Sinclair, who is trying to start up a tour bus business highlighting the supernatural in Pemkowet, and invokes the trope by playing up a Jamaican accent (he's of Jamaican descent, but grew up in Kalamazoo). He actually can see auras, making the literal meaning stick, and has magical family drama, but this becomes central to the plot of ''Autumn Bones'' so doesn't otherwise fit the trope.

Pemkowet isn't your average tourist town. In addition to the families coming through for the summer, the rich beachfront owners, and the working class joes keeping it all running, Pemkowet is also a sanctuary for the occult. The Norse goddess Hel carved out her domain here, and her presence creates an umbrella effect for fairies, vampires, water spirits... all manner of supernatural creatures make their home here, as one of the few places left in the world with the magic to sustain them. The tourism commitee is even successfully using it in their advertising, drawing in people wanting a glimpse of the supernatural.

Without the magic aura of the gods suffusing the world, supernatural creatures simply fade and vanish as well, making the few god-auras that are left, like Pemkowet, sanctuaries for their survival.

''Agent of Hel'' is an UrbanFantasy series written by Creator/JacquelineCarey.

Daisy Johanssen is a product of both worlds. For the town, she works for the local police force, on the books as a clerk but off the books as a liaison to the town's semi-secretive folk. For the supernatural, she is the chosen enforcer of Hel's will, ordered to keep the peace so that the fragile sanctuary is not threatened. That's on top of her own problems - as a half-demon, she's not supposed to exist, and she's literally able to summon Armageddon if she just has one bad day and lets it happen...

The novels in the trilogy are:
*''Dark Currents'' (2012)
*''Autumn Bones'' (2013)
*''Poison Fruit'' (2014)
