** Take note that during the sequence where Scotty tells Kirk what will happen if he goes into the core, he consistently uses "we" and "us" to describe the risks. At no point does he use a singular "you" when warning Kirk, and never makes any attempt to leave Kirk do it. Scotty knew full well the nasty fate that awaited anyone who went in there, and yet was fully intent on following Kirk in regardless. Kirk ''knew'' this, and knocked his good friend out to make sure he didn't.

* As Spock prepares to beam down to catch up with Harrison, he and Uhura share a heartfelt look. Uhura spent pretty much the entire first film thinking Kirk was an arrogant sarcastic jackass, but with this one line she makes it clear that he's managed to earn her respect and affection. * A more subtle one between Kirk and Uhura. He complains about Spock to her, referring to him as her "boyfriend". After a second he looks at her, then looks down saying: "I'm sorry, that was inappropriate." Would he have done that in the first movie? Definitely not. A very clear sign that Kirk is growing up.
** And when he realizes Uhura and Spock may be having relationship troubles, he looks worried, showing that he fully supports their relationship. Especially heartwarming when you remember that in the first movie, he was constantly hitting on Uhura and was shocked by the reveal that she was with Spock.
* Carol's [[spoiler: plea to her father not to kill the crew]] is heartwarming when you think about it. She's known these people only for a few days, yet she's willing to [[spoiler: be murdered by her own father]] if that's what it will take. What's particularly heartwarming about it is that in many films, novels, shows, etc., when confronted with a similar situation, [[spoiler: the child at least considers siding with the parent]]. But Carol will have none of it, because these are innocent people, her friends, and she has no interest in letting them die.
** In the same more implied way or play off of expectations, the rest of the crew never even considers that she might be siding with [[spoiler: her father]] or spying on them. Given the fact that they barely know her and that she lied about her identity, forged her way onto the ship, and is the daughter [[spoiler: of the bad guy]], one would expect that the others would suspect her of working against them. They never do.
* The ''Enterprise'' is damaged, falling to its doom. Despite Scotty, Chekov and Kirk's best efforts, there is no way to restart the warp core safely. James T. Kirk is finally facing a no-win scenario. [[spoiler: So James T. Kirk fixes the warp core ''un''-safely, and the radiation kills him. Despite his fear, he saves the ''Enterprise'' and its crew because that is the responsibility of a captain. He is worthy of standing with Pike and George Kirk.]]
** Other thing: [[spoiler: before Kirk goes into the warp core room, he knocks Scotty out to make sure he doesn't get killed too, then goes back to give him the seat restraints so he isn't injured.]]
* The look of pure joy and relief on Kirk's face when Scotty contacts the ''Enterprise'' [[spoiler: after sneaking on board the Vengeance]]. Kirk nearly looks like he wants to cry with relief.
