** It's more that the element is tied to their strongest personality trait. Bartz is carefree and travels the world which is commonly associated with the wind, Reina is compassionate and caring, a trait commonly associated with water, Faris is energetic and is quick to temper, commonly a fire affiliated trait (firey personality), and both Galuf and Krile are reliable and relatively level headed, commoly associated with Earth.

* Why the hell does Azulmagia ask your party if they bore the crystal shards? Shouldn't a minion of Exdeath of all creatures know who the enemies were? Then again, this is the same enemy that kills itself when you use Self-Destruct on it. *** Additionally, far from getting away with it, it backfires - the whole reason Siren loses is because Galuf, due to amnesia, isn't affected by the illusions its magic creates. The fact that Faris ''is'' affected suggests that she does in fact remember more than she lets on.

** Because Amano's art, which is used by the mugshots, is often treated more like a suggestion by the actual sprite artists. Nobody in the game (and hardly anyone in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'') looks like their mugs. This is ''especially'' true for NES / SNES installments, since sprites had limited color palettes and very few pixels to work with.

** A heartwarming theory on that: remember that a theme of the game is balance. In standard RPG tradition, Fire and Water are opposite of each other... much like Lenna (kind princess classic) and Faris (rough and tumble pirate captain.) But just because they are opposites doesn't mean they don't work well together- it actually compliments their bond as newly discovered family. In the same way, Fire-associated Faris has a partner in thematically Water Syldra, just as much as Water-associated Lenna comes to obtain the fiery Phoenix from Hiryu. A constant theme of Fire and Water working together in balance, symbolic of the bond the two separated sisters would develop.

** Everyone but Galuf has an association or personality element that opposes what you'd think given their elemental virtue. Bartz is afraid of heights despite representing Wind and Krile, who represents Earth, is all about flying and dragons. Lenna getting a fire-based summon and Faris getting a (at least visually) water-based one is part of that same {{Irony}}.

Her spell just grabs the image of a loved one from the target, she's not actively reading their minds, they don't need to consciously remember just as long as there's someone in there somewhere for the spell to mimic. Magic doesn't have to follow logical processes it can simply have an effect.
