* FlashbackEcho: Jane knocks on a trailer door to speak with one of the oil rig guards. We then see a view from the interior of the trailer of a man answering a knock on the door; however, he opens it to reveal Natalie, not Jane, showing that this is actually a flashback.

* ObstructiveBureaucrat: Subverted with the medical examiner. Jane sees him as this because he refuses to classify Natalie's death as murder, which would give her a lot more FBI resources. He explains that his hands are tied by red tape -- he can only pass judgement on the cause of death, which is technically exposure-related. Although he's sympathetic and clearly believes it to be a homicide, he can't overstep the limits of his position.

** This is taken further by his choice of snow camo when he's on the job, or whenever he's outdoors. If he was just concerned about hunting animals he'd likely wear high-visibility orange or something similar. He wears snow camo because if he decides he doesn't want to be seen by people, no one is going to see him. He clearly has full confidence in his camo, for when he takes down the corrupt security team he makes no effort to seek cover and stands right out in the open because he's knows for certain they can't spot him. He's also completely calm, cool, and collected while killing them.

Matt's death is a straight example of a Senseless Sacrifice. The deaths of Ben and the deputies don't count as a Heroic Sacrifice because they weren't intentionally sacrificing their lives to protect Jane and Cory; they were ambushed and Jane survived by pure luck, while Cory was too far away to be in immediate danger.

* HeroicSacrifice: Tragically subverted [[spoiler: with Matt, who dies fighting the rest of the security team to give Natalie a chance to escape. The film stars Creator/JeremyRenner and Creator/ElizabethOlsen as US Fish and Wildlife hunter Cory Lambert and FBI agent Jane Banner respectively who team up with local police to solve a murder of a young woman on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming. Like many of Sheridan's films, ''Wind River'' draws off of Western iconography in a modern setting to cast light on contemporary issues: in this case, the ongoing neglect of Native Americans by the U.S. federal government and the resulting problems of poverty, drug abuse, and violence.

"I just shot marvin" trope is wrong. The security guard killed one of the BIA officers from Jane's team, not his own.
