* CriticalResearchFailure: Ben mentioned that, with the option to marry Arthur in Hawaii now gone, the two can marry in Vermont instead. The film was released in 2002. Vermont allowed same-sex civil unions in 2000; as WebVideo/ObscurusLupa noted, same-sex marriage was not possible in Vermont until 2009.

* MrFanservice: Ben; despite never actually appearing shirtless as the DVD cover implies, his outfits show off actor Jamie Brett Gabel's body pretty well. Arthur also wears some very revealing outfits and has a rear-nude scene, though whether you'd actually want to see Sam Mraovich naked is a different matter entirely.

The congregants believe that Victor's brother being gay will somehow turn their children into homosexuals, and the priest encourages Victor to in order to get into heaven. Even Arthur seems to regard this particular church as being monumentally screwed up.

* HollywoodAtheist: A rather strange aversion, since Arthur does fit most of the usual criteria for a Hollywood Atheist, but his positions are obviously those of Sam Mraovich himself.

* StockFootage: The journey to and from Vermont is represented by stock footage of a cargo plane.

Useful Notes, not a trope.

* BechdelTest: Fails pretty dismally; there are only three female characters in the film (Mildred, Ben's ex-wife Tammy, and the attorney), and none of them even share a scene, let alone any dialogue. About the best thing you can say about the film in this regard is that most of the dialogue isn't gender-specific, meaning you could swap Ben and Arthur for a lesbian couple without making too many major changes.

* CreatorKiller: Not Sam Mraovich, since he had no career to kill in the first place, but Mike Haboush, who co-produced the film and starred as Victor. Prior to this he actually had something resembling an acting career, having had bit parts in PowerRangersLostGalaxy and TheWestWing. Nowadays he acts in gay porn under the name of "Mike Bush."

* AmbiguouslyGay: Victor. WordOfGod is that Victor actually is gay, though in complete denial about it, but the film doesn't do a very good job of making it clear.
* AuthorFilibuster: The whole film really, but Arthur's speech about how he wouldn't want to fight for his country if he can't get married in it stands out in particular.

* DepravedHomosexual: Arthur turns into this at the end of the film, when he .

** as well; she only gets mentioned twice after her death, and the whole subplot about launching a lawsuit against the state of California is completely forgotten about.
* ExperimentedInCollege: Inverted; Ben experimented with the idea of being heterosexual in college, and ended up getting married as a result.

* PsychoExGirlfriend: Ben's ex-wife. Granted, one could see how she was being pissed off as being used as TheBeard for several years, but she comes across as totally batshit, way too much for it to have been Ben's fault.
