* ''Synopsis'': A person from Earth is transported into the body of an elf in Kirkwall - "''For anyone who thinks that living in Thedas would actually be pleasant, I'm here to tell you that it's not. All I want is to go home, and I've got a plan. If anyone knows how I got here, how to send me home, it's the two gods that are still around. All I need to do is find Hawke and follow them around until it's time to get Mythal free. A good plan...until everything went wrong.''"
* ''Comments'': Excellent take on the inserted character genre, with high attention to detail and characters that act in their own interest rather than being props for the story. Plays with the canon in a highly entertaining way, introduces new plot threads courtesy of the main character's own actions, and shows a more realistic approach to being dropped into a crapsack world complete with the brutality of the city it is set in.

* Status: Completed
* Pairing: Alistair/M!Cousland
* Synopsis: Alistair thought he had found his place in the world when he joined the Grey Wardens. But the battle of Ostagar changed that world, and as Alistair follows the only other surviving Grey Warden through a country being torn apart by both Blight and civil war, he finds his ideas about his place and his self changing, too. Particularly when he falls quite spectacularly in love.
* Review: A retelling of the game from Alistair's POV with one major alternation: He falls in love with a Male Cousland. The author does a very well job writing around game scenes and summarize action gameplays as well as choosing which side quests to include. The romance is very well written and well thought out with amazing sex scenes, as well as the implications with Alistair become king.

* ''Comments'': Far and beyond the absolute best Dragon Age II 'novelization' I've ever read. Words honestly don't do it justice, but I will try. The characterization is spot-on, and focuses mostly on the character interactions and growth. Hawke has a rivalry with Aveline, something not often explored in the fanfics I've come across previously. I cannot possibly recommend it enough. Of note, this is the 2nd in a series, with the previous work being a novelization of Dragon Age: Origins, but I have admittedly not read it.

* ''Synopsis'': Edmund Cousland and his nephew Oren survive Rendon Howe's treachery, leading to a very different Fereldan Civil War. Very much an AlternateUniverse.
* ''Comments'': The story does not shy away from it being an AU as opposed to being a retelling of the game's story. All possible origins are featured, though to varying extents (for instance, while Cousland is a primary POV, he isn't the Warden; Amell is). Later chapters tie in lore and plot points established in later games as well. Very much like ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'', multiple viewpoints with varying degrees of UnreliableNarrator are employed, including [[VillainProtagonist Rendon Howe]] himself.

However, the writer still seems to be conflicted on whether he wants to focus on action or characterization.

[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/20434736 Rise Of The Champion]] by Lightning4119
* Recommended by Black John
* ''Status'': In-Progress
* ''Synopsis'': The Tale of the Champion is well-known, at least the way Varric tells it. The Champion started as a refugee and rose from poverty to save Kirkwall time and again. But what really happened? Well, all we have is what Varric says, so strap in and hope he's telling the truth.

* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis'': Game night with the Inquisition leads to some interesting stories from one of the taciturn members. Turns out the quiet ones can have a lot to say when you get them out of their shell... These are stories from the life of Latimer Trevelyan. (Rated 14-A for some language, violence, and minor sexual references)
* ''Comments'': A very interesting fic with a pretty unique FramingDevice. The story is told through a game implied to be "Have You Ever…?" with the titular Inquisitor telling parts of his journey. While the main character is pretty angsty in the first chapter, this is given an adequate reason later on in the story, and he does get better. There's a pretty good balance of hilarity, awesomeness, a few dark and tearjerking moments, and heartwarming moments.
