* HeroKiller: The Abyssal submarine in Chapter 5. [[spoiler: It shows up and kills Hood with contemptuous ease after doing the same to a lot of destroyers.]]

** A big one that set off chapter 5. [[spoiler: Attempting to sink ''Bismarck'' in the exact same manner and at the exact same location as her namesake. When the ''Hood'' intervenes and saves the ''Bismarck'', an Abyssal super-sub, taking a page out of the playbook of [=USS=] "Hit it again" ''Harder'', plows through several of ''Hood''s escorts and re-enacts the magazine-detonating hit that sunk the original ''Hood'' by '''JUMPING OUT OF THE WATER AND LAUNCHING A TORPEDO AT HOOD'S FACE, BLOWING HER HEAD CLEAN OFF'''. ]]
** In chapter 6 [[spoiler:they recreate Operation Iceberg, the bombardment of Okinawa. And then after Yamato is mortally wounded, she decides to invoke [[HeroicSacrifice Operation Ten-Go]]... seemingly all the way to her own end.]]

* WhamEpisode: Chapter 6. [[spoiler: Another super-Abyssal joins the fray. Hints are dropped that at least some Abyssal ringleaders are vengeful spirits. Yamato sorties into battle and is mortally wounded, and it's revealed that Yvonne isn't a human officer, she's a shipgirl: the USS Enterprise]].

* YanksWithTanks: The US Navy took a massive beating in the early days of the war, with both Pearl Harbor and Norfolk attacked by Abyssals, and the loss of nearly the entire fleet. [[note]]Nine out of eleven carriers, 70 surface warships, and almost the entire submarine fleet. The quote is attributed to William Halsey Jr, who commanded a special task group during WW2 centering on the Enterprise. It also doubles as a ShoutOut to [[Fanfic/PacificWorldWarIIUsNavyShipgirls Pacific]], whose ''Enterprise'' uses this quote as her motto, and is the version of a ''Enterprise'' ship girl that Yvonne is based on.]]
