These examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** The year before joining U.A., Izuku and Ochako are trained by All Might. This gives them a MASSIVE advantage over most of their classmates, who mostly trained on their own. During the Heroes vs Villains exercise, Todoroki noticed that Izuku and Ochako are way too good and immediately guesses a Pro Hero had a hand in their training.
*** Related to this, while Ochako is described as "chubby" in the manga (chubby by Japanese standards, at least), thanks to undergoing the same training as Izuku, she develops a more fit figure with noticeable muscles.
** One day, Izuku and Ochako decided to continue their training despite the storm that was forming above them. The next day, they woke up with a cold and some fever.
** For most of her life, Toga always felt she was unwanted and has a very harsh life. Her parents disowned her, and she basically lived on the streets, begging and stealing to survive. The best she got was Stain ''tolerating'' her presence at best before he finally ditched her. So when Izuku saves her from a bunch of would-be rapists and shows genuine concern for her well-being, Toga immediately develops a mad crush on him and tries to find a way to be with him on a permanent basis.
** The fake cities UA uses as training battlegrounds have lots of vacant buildings. Said buildings are prime spots for rats and other vermin to use as nests.
** Shinso grew up with most people telling him that his Quirk is evil and befitting a villain. This made him very reluctant to use his Quirk on other people, despite, or maybe because he wants to prove he can be a hero. Even after Himiko and Momo pointing out that heroes are expected to use their Quirks on their opponents and that there are far worse Quirks than his, he's still hesitant to brainwash others.

muscles.

** Despite the deal U.A. made with Toga, they're aware of the girl's very turbulent past, and thus they force her to go to therapy sessions in order to help her achieve a better state of mind. She's also on a very tight leash, having to report when she's going out, where she's going, etc., and too many mishaps will see her on a one-way ticket back to jail.
** Mental problems cannot be healed easily, much less in a couple of weeks. When the story focuses on Toga during the USJ attack, she is shown struggling to keep her blood thirst at bay, and even then she is not successful.
** Ochako and Bakugou combine their Quirks to turn the boat they are in into a flying boat. The maneuver is successful, but everyone has to hold onto anything they can find to avoid falling off, and they realize too late that they have no means to stop the boat before it crashes.
** As Aizawa makes All Might painfully realize, if you take a boy with almost no sense of self-worth and praise him for putting himself in danger to save others, the result is somebody who will jump recklessly into dangerous situations without thinking if he will come out of them alive.
*** Related to this, Aizawa claims that he won't expel Izuku even if he wanted to because he knows that Izuku will simply go vigilante, which will result in him being arrested or killed. After the battle with Stain, Aizawa and the rest of Izuku's mentors also acknowledge that lecturing Izuku on his reckless behavior is useless because the only times Izuku (a nice, kind boy who doesn't want to disobey or disappoint them) exhibits this self-destructive behavior is because someone's life is in danger and Izuku really has no options but going all the way or let someone get killed.
** Regardless of her attempt to go heroic, Toga still did terrible things in the past, [[spoiler:and Saito - the boy she attacked and whose blood she sucked, the trigger that led to her running away - not only remembers her but goes into a HeroicBSOD when he sees her on-screen during the Sports Festival.]]
** Even if she was rescued earlier than in canon, Eri suffered a lot due to Overhaul's experiments on her - and she has bad dreams about him. Relatedly, her instinctive idea of drawing Overhaul helps her cope a little, something that is sometimes prescribed in RealLife to deal with traumas.

The only time he really took an interest in Izuku was after he got his Quirk, and when Izuku was unable to show great improvement in its use he just dropped it. A few weeks later, he left for his overseas job and has barely come back. Now, all he cares about is how what Izuku may do affects his image: he was surprised when he learned Izuku got into the Hero Course, told Inko to make sure Izuku would not do anything that would reflect badly on him, and when he calls after the USJ incident, it is only to ask if he got his injuries interfering with the heroes' rescue and threatening to pull him out of U.A. if he does something that embarrasses him. When learning this, Ochako realizes that now she hates someone even more than [[ArchEnemy Bakugou]].

** The second [[ForWantOfANail divergence]] is Ochako moving to Musutafu and meeting Izuku a year before the U.A. Entrance Exam.
** Shinso made his first appearance during the Sports Festival arc. Here, he shows up as early as the Entrance Exam.
** Toga made her debut towards the end of the Stain arc. Here, she appears even before Izuku even takes the Entrance Exam.

** Eri makes a sudden appearance at the end of Chapter 16, which takes place the day after the USJ Incident. In canon, Eri did not show up until the Internship Arc.
** Mei Hatsume made her debut in canon during the 2nd round of the sports festival. Here, she ends up making her introduction (among other things) sometime before the festival even begins.

* AdaptationalHeroism: In canon, Toga is a SerialKiller driven by unfettered bloodlust, and a loyal member of the League of Villains. Here, she's a U.A. student who genuinely wants to rein in her more violent impulses.
* AdaptationalJerkass: As detailed in AbusiveParents, Hisashi Midoriya gets this treatment here, and made even more apparent in chapter 23, where he mentally refers to Inko as both a bitch and a "worthless sow."

* AlmightyMom: All Might mentions that there are very few people he finds more terrifying than Inko Midoriya. She also stuns Endeavor during the parents-teachers conference when she explodes with rage at Himiko's parents.
--> '''All Might''': Young Midoriya, are you sure your mother wasn't a professional hero? I've been in rooms with ''trained interrogators'' that didn't scare me as much as that woman!

* AmbiguouslyBi: [[spoiler:Ochako. When Toga kisses her in Chapter 34, Ochako doesn't seem to mind much and even begins to kiss back before Miruko interrupts them. She's later shown gawking at Toga in a dress in Chapter 36, hinting that she finds Toga attractive.]]

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Hisashi Midoriya seems to be unable to see relationships in terms other than connections to further your own career. He thinks Izuku befriended Iida and Todoroki because of their ties to rich and popular Pro Heroes, and can't understand why would he waste his time befriending a girl from a blue collar family like Ochako.

* HateSink: Despite having only a single onscreen appearance by the time Izuku explains to Ochako why he doesn't live with him and Inko anymore, those two scenes were enough to cement Hisashi Midoriya as the most hated character of the fic (see AbusiveParents above for details). Every further appearance only makes it clearer that Izuku is far better having him away from home.

** Hisashi Midoriya will do anything to improve his standing in the world at the expense of Izuku and Inko. The only concern he had for Izuku after USJ was whether or not his injuries interfered with the pro heroes' rescue operations, and thus reflected badly on Hisashi. Even when Izuku showed signs of having a Quirk, all he cared about was for Izuku to become strong so he could later boast about it. [[spoiler:When he finds out about Izuku's progress in the Sports Festival, his first thought is that Inko hid Izuku's power from him to humiliate him to the Meta Liberation Army.]]

** Hisashi Midoriya takes the cake, though. Being a neglectful parent would be bad enough, but his internal monologue reveals he thinks little of Izuku beyond his Quirk and he's rather hateful towards Inko as well, calling her a "fat sow" who dared to go behind his back and hide Izuku's potential.

* KnifeNut: As per canon, this is Toga's main weapon, and [[WalkingArsenal she's got a lot of them]]. Those knives are sharp enough to dismember people in one slash.

* LegacyCharacter: Variation; when the fic cuts back to the present in Chapter 16, one of Eri's comments shows that Toga inherited the "R-Rated Heroine" tagline from Midnight.

* MagneticHero: Played with. Izuku spent most of his life having no friends, with Ochako being his OnlyFriend during the last year of Middle School. However, he does manage to make quite a lot of friends in his first week in U.A., much to his surprise. Shinso does mention that Izuku has a tendency to make friends by helping people who are in danger, as it happened with him, Iida, Toga, and Tsuyu.

* MoralityChain: Izuku is the main reason behind Toga wanting to be a hero and become a better person.

* NeverMyFault: Hisashi effectively abandoned his wife and child after presuming Izuku's Quirk to be weak and useless. When his superiors [[spoiler:at the MLA]] question him on why he didn't inform them of his powerful son, he blames Inko for not informing him and goes on an internal blue streak about how she's ugly, stupid, and has "humiliated" him, holding her entirely responsible for his lack of familiarity with their son despite the fact that it's his own fault he knows next to nothing about his family anymore.

* ObliviousToLove: Izuku is so naïve that he thinks Toga's obvious interest in him is just her being friendly, and he also misses the very obvious hints about Ochako being in love with him. Midnight almost trips over herself in shock when she sees for herself how oblivious Izuku is, and All Might has to hold back from laughing as he sees the two of them "flirt".

* PsychicNosebleed: Happens to Izuku if he overuses his Quirk, or pushes it to lift something heavier than his current limits.
* PsychosomaticSuperpowerOutage: Izuku has been a victim of this for most of his life. The reason behind his Quirk being so weak was Bakugou's constant bullying destroying his self-esteem, as well as lack of use and too much pressure from his father. All Might realizes this and tricks Izuku into using his Quirk on items much heavier than they look in order to break his mental blocks.

* TookTheWifesName: Hisashi Midoriya is mentioned as having taken his wife's family name because his previous one had too much baggage. [[spoiler:Given how he is still heavily involved in the Meta Liberation Army, he likely changed it to avoid attention.]]
