** Kasimar McSkeen: The Complete Monster is based on Total Drama Duncan.

** Eddie in TDL3, as the Level-Headed Guy seems to be based on [[Fanfic/TotalDramaCabinFever Richy]]. Design-wise, he's practically a palette-swap of [[Fanfic/TotalDramaNations Hans]], by the same author.

** Rheneas Scorch, the ''Rebellious Pyromaniac WordOfGod states he was inspired by Jimmy Hopkins and Travis Touchdown ''VideoGame/{{Bully}}''.

* ''Fanfic/AceCombatTheEquestrianWar'' has the foreign pegasi aces being potrayed similarly to their originals from [[VideoGame/AceCombat04ShatteredSkies video]] [[VideoGame/AceCombat6FiresOfLiberation games]].
* "Fanfic/AenrhienVailiuri" has the merchant freighter ''Axiana'', which the author's notes say was based on ''Serenity'' from ''Series/{{Firefly}}''. Battered old heavily modified freighter with a RagtagBunchOfMisfits crew, including a [[DumbMuscle not-so-bright]] TokenEvilTeammate.
* Captain Kanril Eleya of the ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'' fanfic continuity ''Fanfic/{{Bait and Switch|STO}}'' is actually intended as an {{inversion}} of a [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Picard]] expy, according to the author. Despite the fact that, like him, she commands a ''Galaxy''-class starship, she's a 29-30-year-old woman instead of a man in his sixties, openly religious instead of atheist, HotBlooded and battle-ready instead of calm and diplomatic to a fault, blue-collar PriorEnlisted instead of aristocratic career officer, BookDumb instead of intellectual... the list goes on. She has more in common with [[Franchise/MassEffect FemShep]] than an archetypical Starfleet captain.
* The ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'' fancomic ''Webcomic/BeTheSeaDwellerLowblood'' has [[OurTrollsAreDifferent troll]] versions of the B1 kids (including bro, though not really a "kid"), Webcomic/SweetBroAndHellaJeff characters, the Midnight Crew, [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and]] ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}. They're all renamed to fit the six-letter troll name limit and to just sound more trollish. For example, Rose Lalonde becomes Rhosyn Lalond, Sweet Bro becomes Suweet Broski, etc.
* ''Fanfic/TheBoltChronicles'':
** Berlioz in “The Paris Trip” is unambiguously based on his namesake in ''WesternAnimation/TheAristocats''. A black cat who can play piano, he lampshades this by saying it’s a naming tradition in his family going back several generations.
** Petey in “The Survivor” is clearly based on his namesake in ''Film/TheLittleRascals'' film shorts. He's a brown and white American pit bull terrier with a ring around the left eye. [[AngryGuardDog Except when Jack threatens Mittens or his master Darnell]], he's very personable and friendly.
** The five unnamed dogs -- a male pit bull, schnauzer, chihuahua, and husky, plus a female beagle -- who save Bolt in "The Wind" by bringing him to a nearby animal hospital are all obviously based on the main characters from ''ComicStrip/DogsOfCKennel''. Among other things, the husky has an [[AllLoveIsUnrequited unrequited crush]] on the beagle, and the group had all escaped by digging a tunnel out of their kennel home.
** Soapy in “The Clouds” is clearly based on the homeless bum of the same name from “The Cop and the Anthem,” an Creator/OHenry ShortStory. Like his namesake, the character unsuccessfully tries to get himself arrested so he can spend the winter in a warm jail cell.

* The ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' ElsewhereFic ''Fanfic/BoyScoutsOneHalf'' follows mostly a cast of original characters, although some of them are obvious expies of characters from the original work.
** The Porter sisters are expies of the Tendo Sisters, with Sarah being the [[{{Tsundere}} tsundere]] love interest of the main character (like Akane), Kirstin being the cooking and cleaning caregiver (like Kasumi), and finally Nicole being the money lover with questionable principles (like Nabiki). This is [[{{LampshadeHanging}} lampshaded]] with the first names of Kirstin and Nicole starting with the same letters as those they are expies of.
** Despite being based on a real person, as a large chunk of the ''Boy Scouts ½'' cast is, the character of Derek Provost is also an expy of Happosai.
** Taylor Kuntz shares his initials with Kuno Tatewaki and is basically what you would get if you took away Kuno's pretension of class.
** And oddly, in a case not based on ''Ranma ½'', the character of Justy Yung is an expy of Jinnai Katsuhiko from ''[[Anime/ElHazardTheMagnificentWorld El-Hazard]]''. This was even [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in Universe when some of the other characters were watching that show and thought Jinnai seemed familiar.

* ''Fanfic/ChasingDragons'' features a character named Ser Harry Flash, who is clearly based on [[Literature/{{Flashman}} Harry Flashman]], both in his role as somehow managing to [[BeenThereShapedHistory be involved in every major event in Westeros' current history]] and in the fact that his POV chapters are presented as memoirs written at some point in the timeline's future. The only difference is that unlike Flashman, Ser Harry is actually likable.

* ''Fanfic/ClashOfTheElements'': Appearance-wise, [[spoiler: Save for the metallic arms]], [[spoiler: Alpha]] is one to [[ComicBook/UltimateMarvel Ultimateverse Nick Fury]], which surprisingly doesn't look ridiculous despite the fact that he is a [[spoiler: Goomba]]

* [[Fanfic/TheConversionBureau Chatyoance's]] work has Blackmesh Security, a pretty obvious expy of Blackwater USA.
* ''Fanfic/CurseOfTheDemonPony'' has Boris, who is basically a ponified, [[FantasticRacism fantastically racist]] [[WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast Gaston]] with some [[WesternAnimation/TheCurseOfTheWereRabbit Victor Quartermaine]] and [[Franchise/BackToTheFuture Biff Tannen]] thrown in. The author even uses some of the same lines from each of their movies for his dialogue!
** His minions Boxco and Dum Dum are exactly like [=LeFou=] (Gaston's henchman) and Biff's gang, with a little [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Snips and Snails]] thrown in.
* In ''Fanfic/ADifferentLesson'', the Wu Sisters start out as this of [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Ozai's Angels]], with Xiu standing in for Azula, Chun as Mai, and Jia as Ty Lee. They aren't exact copies, but the author does have a fair amount of fun with this, and they drop a lot of familiar lines. They also end up growing and developing as characters in their own right.
* The ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' works of Creator/AAPessimal does this a lot. Creator/MichaelMoorcock's [[Literature/TheElricSaga Elric]] has been played for laughs, for instance. The central characters of Creator/TomSharpe's ''Piemberg'' farces have crossed to the Disc - most notoriously the insane and demented secret policeman Verkramp. And there have even been a Hobbit or two...
* ''Fanfic/DuelNature'' features occasional scenes with [[Series/CSIMiami Horatio Mane]], complete with the expected QuipToBlack style of dialogue
* ''Fanfic/EmpathTheLuckiestSmurf'' has Nabby, an Expy of the [[ComicBook/TheSmurfs comic book version]] of Greedy since Greedy is still the village chef as in [[WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs the cartoon show]]. The Psyche Master is basically one for [[Film/{{Tron}} the MCP]], and Traveler is one for Waverider from DC Comics' ''ComicBook/{{Armageddon 2001}}''. Duncan [=McSmurf=], on the other hand, is more of a CaptainErsatz of Gutsy from ''Film/TheSmurfs'' film series.
* In ''Fanfic/EquestriaAHistoryRevealed'', in an InUniverse example, the Griffon nation has the uncanny trait of ripping off its more popular Equestrian counterparts, notably when it comes to its [[ShoddyKnockoffProduct books, companies,]] or even ponies themselves, with their dubious (yet admittedly, probably non-existent) answer to Shining Armor, [[CaptainErsatz Shining Amour]].
* Because of the WholePlotReference to ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'', the villains of ''Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds'' are expies to the villains of that game.
** Count Logan has Count Bleck’s hat and backstory [[spoiler: albeit less impactful and despairing as Bleck’s]]. He also shares Slade’s mask, though chromed.
** His three minions are expies of Bleck’s own minions and named after some of the goons from ''Series/WhereInTimeIsCarmenSandiego''. Kamica and Madeva are ones to Starfire and Raven respectively.
** Dr. Beljar is one of Dimentio. [[spoiler:Knowing this, Beljar backstabbing Logan was pretty obvious]].
* ''Fanfic/EscapeFromTheMoon'': Played with: The voice Doa has been hearing claims Doa is one for itself - [[spoiler: the banished pony, imprisoned for a thousand years.]] Doa is not completely convinced.

* ''Fanfic/TheFlashSentryChronicles'': Springer the Jakhowl is one to [[{{Franchise/Pokemon}} Riolu]]. [[spoiler:His Battle form is one to Lucario, and [[ArchEnemy Shade the Trickster]] is one for Zorua and Zoroark.]]

* [[OlderThanTheyLook Lisa]], SupportingProtagonist of the ''Manga/Reborn2004'' fanfic ''Fanfic/LookingFromTheOutsideIn'', is an Expy of Alice from ''Literature/AliceInWonderland''. Both are blue-eyed girls with bright blond hair learning about something they don't understand.

* [[{{KnifeNut}} Indigo Jack]], one of the protagonists of the ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' fanfic ''Fanfic/AMoreFlawedGem'' is an expy of [[{{Literature/Worm}} Jack Slash]]. An intuitive and borderline sociopathic knife-wielder who can extend the edges of any bladed tool in his possession.
* Most of the characters in ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic'' are expies. Made most obvious in one of the author's [=YouTube=] videos explaining his characters, clearly showing that they are recolors of the original show's cast!
** The Grand Ruler and Lightning Dawn are male versions of [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Celestia and Twilight Sparkle]], while Starla Shine is based on [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Rarity]]. Lightning's [[spoiler: Enticorn form]] is said to be a combination of a [[Anime/DragonBallZ Super Saiyan]] and an [[WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce Anodite]].
** Krysta is named after the main character of Ferngully and appearance-wise is pretty much Fluttershy with her mane and coat color swapped, and in human form.
** Dyno and Myte are based on Mas Y Menos from ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans''.
** Rhymey, Abra Kadabra and Goldwin are based on Muffy Mouse, Waldo the Magnificent and Jeff Hyslop from ''Series/TodaysSpecial''.
** Titan is inspired by [[Anime/SailorMoon Wiseman]] and [[Franchise/CareBears No-Heart]].
** In ''My Brave Pony: Star Fleet Magic III'', Raven, [[spoiler: Twilight's assassin]], is named and based off the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' character.
* Pick a character -''any'' character- from ''Fanfic/MiraculousThePhoenixRises'', and they're more likely than not based off of someone from ''WebVideo/SuperMarioLogan''.

* In ''Fanfic/ANewWorldOnHerShoulders'', pretty much every OriginalCharacter is based off another character or person from different media, ranging from comics, musicians, theatre plays, or video games.
** Team RGAL is based off teenage superhero sidekicks: Robin Bates (Comicbook/{{Robin}}), Gaia Greene (Terra), Ace Byre (ComicBook/WinterSoldier) and Laura Wolff (Comicbook/{{X 23}}).
** Team JZME is based off famous musicians and singers: Jacin Michaelis (Music/MichaelJackson), Dylan Zimmers (Music/BobDylan), Marlin Kingston (Music/BobMarley), and Elvio Jayhouse (Music/ElvisPresley).
** Team CROT is based off characters from famous Shakespeare plays and tragedies: Cordelia Leir (Theatre/KingLear), Romy Julie (Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet), Otto Moore (Theatre/{{Othello}}), and Tidus Andronicus (Theatre/TitusAndronicus).
** The teachers at Atlas, barring those that also appeared in canon, are based off robots and/or their creators from other media: Colt Schwaren (Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger's Franchise/{{Terminator}}), Katt-Grumm and Tiger Iron ([[Franchise/BlazBlue Kokonoe and Iron Tager]]), Professor Shade (ComicBook/TheVision), and Lieutenant Commander Soong ([[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Lieutenant Commander Data]]).
** Members of ship crews are based off pirates and privateer ships: Morgen Hind (The Golden Hind galleon and Sir Henry Morgan), Tick J. Roger ([[Literature/PeterPan The Jolly Roger]]), and Pearl Swann ([[Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean The Black Pearl]]).
* ''Fanfic/OldWest'' has Henry, a [[CreepyBlueEyes blue-eyed]] and [[PsychoForHire creepy mercenary]] who has been inspired by Frank from ''Film/OnceUponATimeInTheWest''. He also has a [[YouKilledMyFather motive to avenge his dead brother]] like [[spoiler:Harmonica]] from the same movie, making Henry a CompositeCharacter.
** There's also Delilah Rangler, a [[TheDreaded notorious]] female outlaw known as [[KissOfDeath the Scarlet Kiss]]. She has more than a passing resemblance to [[Literature/{{Holes}} Kissin' Kate Barlow]].
* ''Fanfic/OSMUFanfictionFriction'' lampshades this trope by having Todd asks who out of the Mobile Unit is the "wacky Scientist". In canon, Oswald is the one who takes up the role, despite not being a wacky Scientist and instead being more like Oscar in personality than in job title.
* In ''Fanfic/PersonaTheSougawaFiles'', the author isn't shy about using these:
** The Strength Social Link, Komori Raidon, has been confirmed to be an expy of Creator/GordonRamsay - short-tempered, critical chefs who nonetheless have hearts of gold.
** Shadow Tamiko is a jester who uses scythes as their main weapon and believes everything is a game, referencing [[spoiler:Jevil of ''VideoGame/{{Deltarune}}'' fame]]. [[ShoutOut She even says "I can do anything!"]]
* ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' has some for other Pokemon characters who cannot fill roles they'd usually do. The {{OC}} Felgrand fills in the role of Giovanni as the one hiding down in the game corner's secret lair, while in one of the spinoff oneshots much of the story of canon anime Ash is filled by the character Casey Snagem, who has several Pokemon whom expy his Pokemon, such as Clefairy, Magmortar, Purugly, Chesnaught, and Liligant for Pikachu, Charizard, Gliscor, Greninja, and Snivy respectively.
* ''Fanfic/RealityIsFluid'': The author's note states that Professor Atani Dukat of the Cardassian Science Ministry was partially based on Emperor Turhan of the Centauri Republic from the ''Series/BabylonFive'' episode "[[Recap/BabylonFiveS02E09TheComingOFShadows The Coming of Shadows]]". Both are members of an enemy culture who are trying to [[TheAtoner atone for their peoples' past crimes]] by apologizing to representatives of those they harmed (Kanril Eleya, a Bajoran captain in Starfleet, in Dukat's case, Ambassador G'Kar of the Narn in Turhan's). The comparison is only partial, however, as Dukat's attempt turns out much better.

* A ''VideoGame/ChronoCross fanfic'' ''Fanfic/SearchingForMyMaster'' has Guile. [[CatchPhrase Who the hell do you think he is?]] His character is inspired by [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Guts]] and [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]].
* ''Fanfic/TheSecretLifeOfTheBackyardKids'': Jorge is this to Franchise/{{Zorro}}, magical superpowers notwithstanding.

* In [[https://www.deviantart.com/misakiyu misakiyu]]'s illustrations of [[https://www.deviantart.com/slifofinadragon SilfofinaDragon]]'s ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'' fanfics, UsefulNotes/DateMasamune and [[UsefulNotes/SanadaYukimura Sanada]] [[MisterSeahorse Yukimura]]'s daughter Yuki greatly resembles Kan'u from ''VisualNovel/{{Juuzaengi}}'', while her two of her brother's/Masamune & Yukimura's son Masa's four friends Honda Hikaru and Mikami Soma resemble Gau Meguro from ''Manga/NabariNoOu'' and Manatsu Soda from ''Literature/RDGRedDataGirl'' respectively, baby Maeda-Date-Sanada Nobushige resembles the baby Shion from ''LightNovel/No6'', and Hitomi Kira resembles Natsuko Honda from ''Literature/KingsGame''.
* ''Fanfic/SonicXDarkChaos'' has a very large number of them, and WordOfGod has confirmed that many of the non-canon characters were based on others in at least some form.
** Dark Tails is an expy of [[VideoGame/MetroidPrime Dark Samus]]. Also, the Quadraxis robot is basically the same as the boss from the same game, except massively upgraded and far more powerful (and vicious). Dark Chaos Energy is also a pretty clear expy of Phazon.
** Along with his obvious parallels to Shadow, Tsali is essentially a more-humanlike Franchise/{{Terminator}}. In a similar vein, the armies of flesh-eating Tsali Androids he once controlled are rather suspiciously similar to [[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Necron Flayed Ones]].
** According to the author, Venus the Seedrian is a gender-flipped version of Guts from ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'', with several parallels in their back stories.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Tephiroth]] is the most blatantly obvious one, except his character and personality are entirely different. And he's not evil.
** Even the ''ships'' are expies according to WordOfGod -- the Dreadnought is based on the [[http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Machariel Machariel]] from ''VideoGame/EveOnline'', and Maledict's ''Leviathan''-class ships are based on the [[http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Eclipse-class_dreadnought Eclipse Super Star Destroyer]].
* ''Fanfic/StarWarsGalacticFolkloreAndMythology'': Most stories are based fairly directly on real-life myth, and a number of characters can be traced to famous legendary figures:
** Big Bloqo, a giant who created various landforms through odd accidents and daily habits and who created a huge version of his planet's ox-like beasts of burden to match his size, strongly resembles Myth/PaulBunyan.
** A Brodo Asogian folktale claims that aurorabirds can take off their feathery cloaks to reveal their true shapes as beautiful maidens, and that hunters can contrive to claim them as brides if they somehow get the cloak out of the picture -- very reminiscent of the tale of Literature/TheSwanMaiden.
** Chaya, a kindly spirit who saved the early Toydarians from a divine cataclysm by giving them wings and who was harshly punished by the gods as a result, brings Prometheus to mind.
** Nana Jebhanye, a Rodian witch who flies around Rodia on a magical spoon stealing unhatched eggs to eat, is based on Literature/BabaYaga and her flying mortal and pestle.

* ''FanFic/TotalDramaLegacy'''s Nero is an expy of [[WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfSuperMarioBros3 Kooky von Koopa]]. He's a MadScientist and OverlordJr who [[GadgeteerGenius is very good with machines]], has EinsteinHair (with Nero's even being a dark bluish-black, invoking Kooky von Koopa's blue hair), and is prone to EvilLaughter. He even describes himself as a "kooky inventor" in one scene.
* In the ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' fic ''Fanfic/{{Traveler}}'', by the time of the Pokemon League, Ash has taken on more than a few of [[Videogame/PokemonRedAndBlue Red's]] traits, preferring solitude in nature with his team to being around people, as well as becoming more silent and stoic, and a much calmer, more collected battler. Gary lampshades this in conversation after the League, claiming that without his friends making him socialize, Ash would probably disappear into the wild. Jonathan later mentions having his final showdown with Ash [[Videogame/PokemonGoldAndSilver atop Mt. Silver]], saying it seems like Ash's type of place.
* While ''Fanfic/VoiceOfTheCondor'' is set in ''Anime/TheMysteriousCitiesOfGold'' universe, Dorad Elo, a mysterious Inca priest, is a {{Cyborg}} take on El Dorado from ''VideoGame/{{Inca}}'', who flies the same ''[[CoolStarship Tumi]]'' from that game.
* The ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda'' fic ''Fanfic/TheVow'' has Lady Lianne, a [[SwansASwimming swan noble]] who's based on [[WesternAnimation/TheSwanPrincess Princess Odette]], both in ([[BalefulPolymorph the swan]]) appearance and personality. There's also a minor character named Lang, a trader duck who's similar to Master Shifu's messenger goose Zeng, both in the awkward personality and [[BearerOfBadNews role]].

* ''FanFic/EquestriaGirlsFriendshipSouls'' being a {{FusionFic}} of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'' this happens a lot.
** Sunset is one of Ichigo, [[spoiler:complete with two Zanpakuto spirits representing different parts of her nature]].
** Human Twilight also shares several traits with Ichigo, [[spoiler:if he embraced his Quincy heritage, particularly with how Midnight Sparkle has become her equivalent of True Zangetsu (Ichigo's Inner Hollow), and later still the reveal she's a MergerOfSouls]].
** Clover is one of Rukia Kuchiki, though unlike her she's the 12th division lieutenant instead of the 13th.
** Starswirl is one of Mayuri, though aside from an obsession with research he has very little in common with him.
** Discord is one of Kisuke Urahara, albeit far more willing to cut the bullshit and be honest with Sunset and company than Urahara is with Ichigo.
** [[spoiler: Ditzy Doo]] is one of Yoruichi Shihoin.
** Adagio seems like one of Kon, [[spoiler: but she isn't. Later, after becoming a Vasto Lorde and Arrancar, she's one to Shiba Kaien and Tia Harribel, as she possesses a similar [[ProngsOfPoseidon weapon]] and powers of the former's Zanpakuto, ''Nejibana'', and has the general powers and affableness of the latter.]]
** Screwloose and Screwball are ones for Jinta and Ururu, respectively.
** Grogar is one of Szayelaporro Granz, straight down to his Espada number.
** Tirek is one to Baraggan Louisenbairn, though unlike Baraggan he ''is'' Espada Number 1 [[spoiler:and presumably not under Starlight Glimmer's watch. As it turns out, he isn't. Chrysalis, on the other hand...]]
** The Smooze is one of Aaroniero Arruruerie, even wearing a similar mask. It turns out that like him he is also an aberration of an Arrancar, and has a {{Kaiju}} EldritchAbomination form as his Resurreccion.
** Torch is one of Yammy Llargo, being the massive brute of the Espada. His Hollow Hole is even in the same spot and he can transform into a {{Kaiju}}. He also bears traits of Nnoitra, having the same rank, the strongest Hierro of the Espada, and his zanpakuto being the closest in semblance.
** The Lament are ones of Coyote Starrk. Unlike the rest of these examples, he looks almost exactly like his Bleach counterparts. He also draws several points from Ulquiorra, such as his Espada number, his green reiatsu, and his "alienness" compared to the other Espada.
** [[spoiler: Sombra]] is one of Yhwach, though when you only have one king in My Little Pony, you can't expect much else.
** Sunset's demon form is a much nastier version of Zangetsu [[spoiler:or rather Ichigo's Quincy powers pretending to be Zangetsu. If anything, Sunset's demon form is a friendlier version of the true Zangetsu (Ichigo's Inner Hollow). Sunset's Daydream Shimmer form, on the other hand, is more or less a less mysterious version of Old Man Zangetsu (Ichigo's Quincy powers) in personality]].
** Pinkamena is basically the Pinkie from FanFic/{{Cupcakes}} with a functional moral compass (in that she goes after the bad guys rather than just anyone), though instead of cutting ponies up and eating them, she just eats them.
** Hurricane is one of Kenpachi Zaraki, [[BloodKnight and it shows.]]
** [[spoiler: Sweet Cider]] is Toshiro Hitsugaya, but fighting-wise she's one of Kenpachi.
** [[spoiler: Starlight Glimmer]] is essentially the [[CompositeCharacter fusion]] of Sosuke Aizen and Kugo Ginjo due to her past relationship with Soul Society, her goals involving the Hogyoku, [[spoiler:and her being the first Substitute Soul Reaper]].
