* LetsGetDangerous: Around the midway point, Haruki interrupts a fight between Kaede and Kaoru, but Karen jumps in for the save and goes all out, forcing Kaoru to retreat and injuring Haruki to the point that she goes back to Hokkaido and never reappears in the story.

Added DiffLines:

Despite the name, this is a sequel to DarthWiki/BurningRhapsodyNewlight. Can be called ''Gaijin Goukaroku''.

Unlike the prequels, this focuses on two new {{Story Arc}}s, each with their own protagonists:
* ''Ritual'' focuses on Kaede, another Seiga half-breed who never knew her father, as she goes on a quest to find him and realize what being a Seiga means.
* ''Foreigner'' focuses on Jin Kami, an amnesiac young man, as he wanders and comments on his life as if to comment to the "God" that created him.

!Tropes associated with Burning Rhapsody Gaiden:
* AnachronismStew: [[spoiler:''Foreigner'' delves into artificial life, as Jin was created artificially, though through magic. The FinalBoss, Sabaki, has a much more mechanical theme to her.]]
* TheArtifact: Despite some secondary characters showing up, Zen'i himself is completely absent for both parts of the story.
* ArtifactTitle: "Burning Rhapsody" doesn't deal with anything burning this time, with no primary character using fire.
* BadassFamily: ''Ritual'' taps into Seiga half-breeds. Kaede and her sister Kaoru, who is also TheRival, are both Seiga half-breeds.
* CallBack: Majins are mentioned in ''Ritual'', but just looking at them is enough for Kaede to scare them away.
* ChangingOfTheGuard
* {{Cult}}: The Gojin are somewhat more present with Kaoru in the cast than with Akira, and they have vibes of one.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:Kaoru strikes Naoji with a near-lethal blow at the end of ''Ritual''.]]
* DownerEnding: Both ''Ritual'' and ''Foreigner'', though the latter's ending is more foreboding rather than the villains accomplishing anything.
** [[spoiler:The canon ending to ''Ritual'' has Kaoru nearly kill Naoji just as Kaede sees him, and Iroha saves him, nearly killing both Kaede and Kaoru in the process before taking off with him in tow.]]
** [[spoiler:The ending to ''Foreigner'' has Sabaki make the big reveal to Jin that he was created artificially, even stating that the "Godframe" inspired by the success of his creation is what she just got. Then just as the Jiyubudoka surround the tower, Sora blows it all up.]]
* DramaticIrony: [[spoiler:Jin thinks he's the son of God. He's not even the son of anyone, having been created.]]
* GaidenGame: Subverted. ''Ritual'' has some ties to the original, as it even features cameos from the two previous iterations' villains, Juuma and Iroha. ''Foreigner'', meanwhile, brings back Junichi and closes Asuka's FaceHeelTurn, as their resurrection of the Kinma caused them to be the big background antagonists of the story.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: It's easy in ''Ritual'' to see that Kaede is the protagonist because she wears light green and Kaoru wears dark purple.
* LegendaryInTheSequel: One of Jin's first encounters is Kyoku, who is regarded with absolute reverence by a lot of people.
* LighterAndSofter: With the change of protagonists and the lack of Majins in the story, and no overly-powerful villain, the overall tone in ''Ritual'' is way less dark. The ending subverts this, however, by being just as much of a DownerEnding as previous stories.
* MagicalEye: The Seiga are recognizable by looking at their eyes, as it is why Majins are running away from Kaede.
* MeetingTheParentsSequel: Kaede didn't have to wait for a sequel, but meeting Naoji means ''Ritual'' works as this for Yasuke, since he is with her when they meet Naoji.
* MenUseViolenceWomenUseCommunication: Inverted in the protagonists. Kaede is willing to fight obstacles that come her way, while Jin tries to talk the other person out (though his self-narration tendencies tend to cause fights to break out anyway).
* ProtagonistTitle: ''Foreigner'' refers to Jin.
* ReligionOfEvil: The Gojin somewhat follow one of these, as they worship "strength". They also double as assassins or troublemakers.
* SequelHook: ''Foreigner'' ends with [[spoiler:Tora, Junichi's aide, muttering about "accepting Sabaki's challenge"]].
* SoulEating: Kaoru's aim regarding first Kaede, then Naoji.
* StealthSequel: To ''Newlight''.
* SuddenSequelHeelSyndrome: Asuka, though she did leave the site of ''Newlight'' on a sour note, completed her FaceHeelTurn offscreen, being now aligned with the reborn Kinma.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Karen and Haruki are also rivals, and each appears either fighting the other or advising one of Kaede or Kaoru during ''Gaiden''.
