Yoko Shimomura (born October 19, 1967) has been composing in the video game music industry since the late 1980s. Early on, she was a recurring composer for Creator/Capcom (and was part of their in-house jazz band Alph Lyla), and then for Squaresoft, and more recently a freelance composer. She is probably best known for composing the music for the Franchise/KingdomHearts series, as well as the music for the Franchise/SuperMarioBros RPG games, starting with VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG (while at Squaresoft) and the entire VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi series since.

Contrary to popular belief, Shimomura did not compose VideoGame/MegaMan6. The soundtrack for that game was composed by Yuko Takehara instead.

work and creator names are not supposed to be in bold (that's for the Other Wiki)

Yoko Shimomura has been composing in the video game music industry since the late 1980s. Early on, she was a recurring composer for Creator/Capcom (and was part of their in-house jazz band Alph Lyla), and then for Squaresoft, and more recently a freelance composer. More recently, she is probably best known for composing the music for the Franchise/KingdomHearts series, as well as Franchise/Mario RPG music, starting with VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG (while at Squaresoft) and the entire Mario & Luigi series since.

Was she actually lead composer? I feel like Kiyota or ACE+ would be more deserving of that title since they did more of the soundtrack than she did

* VideoGame/Xenoblade (2010, along with ACE+, Creator/ManamiKiyota and Creator/YasunoriMitsuda): She was the lead composer and wrote personally a tenth of the soundtrack, including the now classic Main Theme, which is considered one of the best works in her entire career. Creator/YasunoriMitsuda returned only to compose the ending song, but Shimomura borrowed some of his signature style associated with past Xeno soundtracks. And, since Xenoblade is far more of a PlanetaryRomance than previous Xeno games, her compositions also bear VideoGame/ChronoCross influence.

Contrary to popular belief, Shimomura did not compose VideoGame/MegaMan6. The soundtrack for that game was composed by Yuko Takehara instead.
