A former child actor born in the second generation of the Divine Era. Charismatic and good at reading people, she now spreads conspiracy theories about what lies behind the Shinju's barrier, and forms a "Hero Club" with Yuzuki to go beyond the wall. Her mother was an American on a trip to Shikoku who was separated from her family when the Vertex attacked.

A powerful religious organization which oversees the worship of the Shinju and employs the Heroes and the Miko who defend it. Their word carries more weight than the Prime Minister's, and for all intents and purposes they are the government of Shikoku. They act as intermediaries between the Heroes and Shinju, providing them with information and other aid throughout the story.

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:While it is true that the higher ups achieved instrumentality and escaped all punishment and retribution while leaving the rest of humanity to die. The Shinju is dead, the Celestial gods have been badly crippled, and now their organization has been exposed and they are nothing more than a field of wheat at the mercy of whomever finds them.]]
* AmbiguouslyEvil: {{Averted|Trope}} in that they're ultimately presented as massively incompetent than actually evil. They ultimately want to protect humanity, but Sonoko's TheReasonYouSuckSpeech in ''Washio Sumi's'' bonus chapter makes them realize that they ''massively'' screwed themselves over by keeping secrets from the Heroes.

However, they have some rather questionable methods such as hiding the after-effects of the SuperMode from the girls they employ to protect humanity, though it's heavily implied that they did this to spare the girls' feelings.

A giant tree that appeared during the crisis in the Anno Domini era and saved humanity from the virus that plagued much of the world. Ever since, the survivors of Shikoku Island have worshipped it as a god. It now summons Heroes to defend it from the Vertex that attack it; if even one manages to reach the Shinju, both it and the world will be destroyed.

* AllYourPowersCombined: The Shinju is composed of all the gods that sided with humanity after the rest of them decided to KillEmAll. [[spoiler:It's heavily implied that Yuna Takashima became one of those gods at the end of [=NoWaYu=]]]
* BigGood: They are the ones worshiped by the Taisha and the ones empowering the Heroes to protect Humanity from the Vertex. It is their barrier that keeps the bulk of them out.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Sonoko speculates that although it is a god that's benevolent to humanity, it probably thinks in ways that humans can't comprehend which is why it requires sacrifices from the Heroes who protect it.

Strange monsters that come from the outside world and the main threat of the story. They are said to be the enemies of the Shinju and humanity. Their goal is to kill the Shinju, and in doing so, to destroy the world.

A retired Miko who discovered Yuna Takashima and selected her as a Hero. She serves as a mentor to the younger Mikos and a priestess for the Taisha.

* IdolSinger: After episode 4, she aspires to become one. Her audition passes the preliminary stage, but seeing as how Itsuki has already lost her voice at this point she isn't exactly in a position to pursue it further.
** She gets her voice back at the end of the anime, and the second Visual Novel reveals that she passed the rest of the auditions and is currently undergoing training

* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: [[spoiler:It's believed that she became an ''arahitogami,'' or a human deity, and became a part of the Shinju.]]

* DeityOfHumanOrigin: [[spoiler:Becomes a part of the Shinju when it absorbs her body as she's dying in Chapter 18.]]

* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler: After trying to channel Shuten-Douji a second time in Chapter 14, she can't complete her transformation, and trying to use her Hero Punch on it anyway causes her to instead cough up massive amounts of blood and collapse unconscious into the Seto Inland Sea.]]

* LaserGuidedKarma: Losing an eye at the end of Hero Chapter is really similar to the effects of Sange. Bonus points for wearing an eyepatch like Fuu. Double bonus points when you realize that she lost the same eye Sonoko first lost when Sonoko Mankai'd for the first time at the end of ''[=WaSuYu=]'', serving as a fitting punishment for her actions that led to Sonoko and Sumi's suffering, according to WordOfGod.

* TheLeader: Was eventually assigned as the leader of her team, which Sumi originally thought was because of her family's high status in the Taisha. However, during their next battle Sumi realizes that it was because [[GeniusDitz Sonoko was a tactical genius,]] and feels guilty about doubting her.

** Her enshrinement in the period between ''Washio Sumi Chapter'' and the first season of ''Yuki Yuna Is A Hero'' seems to have caused her to adopt a surprisingly ruthless side to herself. In the final episode of ''Great Blooming Chapter'', [[spoiler:she casually suggests that the Hero Club should perform a coup against the Taisha sometime after the final battle, explaining that they should take advantage of the current chaos to strike. She even admits to herself in private that she wouldn't have minded if the world ended then and there due to her hatred of it in the same episode. When she officially takes over the Taisha sometime during the 4 year TimeSkip, Karin implies that she ''eliminates'' any enemies that she gains in her rise to power.]]

* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's flighty and spacey alright, but her abilities (both power and intellect-wise) are nothing to scoff at, especially during the present day when she's a middle schooler. So when she's angry, she ''gets'' [[TranquilFury angry]], and makes that ''very'' clear despite still having a smile on her face the whole time, which is why the Taisha cower at her presence after she gets her functions back in ''Hero Chapter''.
