* GadgeteerGenius: Is not unlike da Vinci -- inventions ahead of his time, but missing key resources to fully realize many of them.
* MeaningfulName: B. Hevea is a reversal of ''Hevea brasiliensis'', the scientific name for the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hevea_brasiliensis rubber tree]]. It also keeps the custom going of Pokemon professors being named after trees, though they don't usually use the scientific name.
* MemeticMutation: The Bidoof's memetic status of being more than what their doofy appearance would suggest had some bearing in this character's species choice. Much like ''WebAnimation/PokemonRusty'' turned Bidoof into a deity, sarysa turned another Bidoof into a scientist. Still somewhat {{adorkable}}, though.
* NoSocialSkills: Played quite straight -- he's nocturnal (albeit normal for a beaver, not so much for sentient beings), shy, and stutters whenever he's not talking about one of his inventions.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Wiki/TVTropes' limited text colors made it necessary to differentiate Jani and Hevea's colors, both of which would normally be cinnamon. So the author made him shiny... of course RuleOfFunny had a role as well.
* StutterStop: Most of the time, he speaks with a prominent stutter. Its frequency is in tune with his stress levels, though it magically seems to fade away whenever he goes into technical detail about one of his inventions.

* SurvivorGuilt: Despite the fact that nobody dies, he feels that he could have prevented (and was the indirect cause) the near-fatal injuries sustained by Jani and Finley during Perigo's attacks. This doesn't stop him though, as he is dead-set on stopping Bella in the Hoard arc before she causes this again.

* DeceptiveDisciple: Chairgon Merqury sees him as this, viewing his patenting of the Haber Process as the moment of betrayal.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's paranoid, impatient and slightly self-righteous, but shows genuine concern for the other members of the party - particularly Mila.
* LoopholeAbuse: He uses this to keep the [=BrainStorm=] Brewery in Hoard up and running; as he's not a Dragon-type, he is forbidden from owning any permanent property in the city, but the brewery makes so much money, paying for the building's monthly rental costs is almost a non-issue. This seriously annoys Merqury, who only begrudgingly lets it happen.

** TheBusCameBack: After spending some time CommutingOnABus, he plays a major role in the Hoard arc as one third of the conspiracy against Chairgon Merqury, alongside Ripley and Kapitani Khmalidze.

The founder of Hoard and permanent head of its Merchants' Council, effectively making him Hoard's PresidentForLife. Is also Lars' somewhat estranged father. He's the one who summons the party to Hoard, hoping to learn the secrets of human technology for various reasons. He's later set up as one half of the BigBadEnsemble for Hoard, alongside Bella, as both the party and his own staff learn that he is unwittingly the Viral Aggression Vector of Hoard.

* IHaveNoSon: How he regards Lars. He's visibly offended when Lars calls him 'Dad', says he has 'too much of his mother in him', and calls him a 'mistake' and 'the punchline of a years-long practical joke'.
* JustTheFirstCitizen: He's the King of Hoard in all but name, but he can't stand the idea of being ''called'' that.

* ProperlyParanoid: He's unknowingly correct in his belief that Serris, the Pawniarmy and the Guild are working together to overthrow him - albeit with the guild in a largely passive 'sanctioning' role. A trio of Fighting-Type Pokemon the group encounters shortly after their training just outside Orichalcum. The three are mercenaries searching for rumoured ex-humans to beat them up for a currently unknown reason, and the others trick them into wasting time in Orichalcum to prepare for a battle against them. Lars is the leader, with Max and Bash being hired muscle - literally, in Max's case.

After his humiliating defeat, Lars' throat gets crushed by Kapitani Khmalidze - the one who hired him - for his failure and seemingly disappears from the story. He wasn't through with the humans yet, however; he spends the next few days training before tracking them down to a Silversand bar on Page 354, demanding a rematch. [[TookALevelInBadass He proves to be a much tougher opponent]], but is defeated again regardless.

* BigThinShortTrio: Max, Bash, and Lars, respectively.

* PunchClockVillain: Max and Bash at least; they only seem to care about getting paid and harbour no ill-will towards the main party.
* TerribleTrio: They fit the basic pattern of 'a Boss and two Henchman very physically different from the Boss', but subverted in that they're treated as a legitimate threat at first, and the ''Boss'' is the bumbling one who has to be kept in check by his Henchmen, not the other way around.

* AffablyEvil: And the 'evil' part is debatable, since she's OnlyInItForTheMoney, and gets thrown out the window entirely after her HeelFaceTurn. She's the nicest member of Lars' crew, assuring the party that they're not there to kill anyone, [[FalseReassurance just maim or seriously injure]]. Later, she apologises to Teller for the trouble Lars causes at his bar and offers him a tip as compensation, knowing that Lars would go back on the deal he made.
* BerserkButton: Suggesting she's DumbMuscle.
* BrooklynRage: She speaks with a thick New York accent, as part of her {{Expy}} status.
* {{Expy}}: Is essentially a [[GenderFlip Gender-Flipped]] version of [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIII Alex]]. She even uses some of his moves and [[CatchPhrase Catch Phrases]].
* GenderBlenderName: In this case, 'Max' is short for 'Maxine'.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: She orders Bash to stand down after it becomes obvious the two of them can't defeat the entire party by themselves.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Bash's Red - [[VisualPun literally]], even.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: For her, a Seismic Toss is five German Suplexes in a row.

!!Bash (Blaziken):
* BloodKnight: A [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] example compared to Lars; he's clearly quite disappointed upon learning he'll have to surrender to the party, but doesn't object.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: He wears a [[FashionVictimVillain flame-patterned bowling shirt with the buttons open]], and nothing else.
* GenreSavvy: He correctly deduces that the first, supposedly 'mistaken' set of directions the party gives is the correct one, and the subsequent 'corrections' are actually attempts to mislead them. When they return to the party's location, he's the first one to realise that Jani is attempting to lead them into a trap.
* PokemonSpeak: Is so far the ''only'' character in the RP to play this straight, though with a slight twist as he can only say his species' ''Japanese'' name: Bashāmo. Max is the only one who can understand him, and as such has to 'translate' everything he says.

* [[MrExposition Ms Exposition]]: Provides the party with a lot of information pertaining to Merqury's past, his relationship with his son, and the business climate in Hoard.
* NumberTwo: To Chairgon Merqury.
* ServileSnarker: She's essentially Merqury's butler, and has no qualms backhandedly pointing out his or Lars' various personality flaws. [[SelfDeprecation Nor does she spare herself.]] Though it's subverted somewhat, as she mostly keeps the snarking behind Merqury's back; perhaps wisely so.

* StepfordSmiler: It's hinted occasionally that she seems to have repressed memories of a past incident involving Mega Evolution, considering her discomfort with the concept and frequent urges for Goobert and Marlon to be careful with them.

* Nerd: Fairly traditional in this regard, but complicated. She routinely geeks out on science topics, and has a science education and engineering background. A bit more [[ExtravertedNerd extraverted]] than one might expect, but the [[HatePlague Viral Aggression]] mostly brought that out, though she's also bit tone deaf and socially naive. Definitely more brainy than brawny, as she's lost every battle against humanmon opponents, all of which have been type-advantaged for her. Her competence against [=NPCs=] can be chalked up to HumansAreSpecial seeping into the RP overall.

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Jani gets a "special" beret from Hevea in Silversand, with the main purpose of hiding her bandages...since she left the hospital early.

* CantHoldHerLiquor: Mainly due to being a literal lightweight. Her human tolerance is unknown.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Originally I gave the 8-inch Jani the "shrunken character" vision where everything seems [[https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/looking-up-tall-trees-forest-shenandoah-national-park-virginia-32142513.jpg exaggeratedly large]], so she couldn't see if a tree had berries. Decided to 86 that as it'd just drag the plot down.

* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Like most characters, Jani has selective Diglett instincts for the sake of [[AnthropicPrinciple plot convenience]]. She immediately knew her means for locomotion, which includes digging underground and digging forward while above ground, as well as a couple other basic instincts...the most out there being her ability to detect individuals on land while underground. Her reactions to elemental forces have also been swayed by the instincts of her typing. She ''doesn't'', however, have any understanding of how her other moves work, and at first ends up winging it with rather pitiful results.

* UselessUsefulNonCombatAbilities: Jani is a skilled programmer and hacker. A shame there are no computers.

* TheNicknamer: Not to the extreme that PJ does this, but he still has a couple of notable nicknames for others (with a consistent structure to them as well):

* BerserkButton: He HATES trees, for unexplained reasons.
