One of the more powerful factions in the Northern Province. It is made up of many clans and sects.

One of the three leading groups in the Society.

* WeAreStrugglingTogether: They present a united front in front of allies and enemies, but there is a large factional divide in the clan that exists behind the scene.

Zian's uncle and first mentor.

* {{Patricide}}: It's implied he killed his own father to take control of the clan.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: He was a bit character that died in the only chapter that featured him. However, his death drove his uncle Ming Zhong Guan to try an attack the Village, something he died trying to achieve. Among the Elder's belongings was a notebook that had, among other things, his experiences with his Awakening, Water. Rain would use this to try and understand his own Awakening.

* PaperTiger: He was intended to be this on purpose so that one of this brothers, their father's true heir, can kill him and earn the prestige of killing the famed [=BoShui=].

* BlackSheep: Nian Zu doesn't involve himself with clan affairs because he is this.

* VengefulWidow: She hold great hatred towards [[spoiler:Rang Min]] for the death of her husband.

* MyGreatestRegret: He was dismissive of Yuzhen when he first met her, leading to a rift between himself and his secret lover and best friend, Shing Du Yi, one that never fully mended before the latter's death.

* ActionPolitician: In addition to being a mother and [spoiler:a powerful Martial Warrior]], she is also a capable politician, which has allowed her to become a Magistrate and keep herself and her son alive despite [[spoiler:Situ Rang Min being the one to kill her husband]].

* FirstNameBasis: He is almost always simply referred to as Nian Zu. Something that irks a few of his clansment.

A lesser member of the Society.

A Elder of the Arahant Sect who was one of the people who collected those who lost during the Contest.

* MoralMyopia: His nephew died on a mission where he was ordered to kill what he thought would be helpless civilians, women, and children. As a result, he attempted to find the village where they called home, kill everyone there, and burn it to the ground.

One of the many people who pursued Rain and his group as there were evading the Society for getting valuable treasure as part of the Contest.

* CharacterDevelopment: He starts out as a typical arrogant young noble, except actually having the skills to back it up. However, his defeat at the hands of Rain gave him a much needed [[BreadkTheHaughty reality check]]. This leads to him re-evaluating his life and values, befriending Rain and the others, and becoming both a better warrior and a better person afterwards.
