* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being Discord's cousin, and ''freaking Cthulhu'' as a pony, he's actually pretty nice and doesn't really seem interested in doing anything remotely evil.
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: Is surprisingly nice for being…well, Cthulhu as a pony, and even Twilight admits he deserves to be treated nicely.
* EldritchAbomination: Like the rest of his family, though a bizarrely polite and well-mannered one.
* NiceGuy: A very stark contrast to the original Lovecraft version of him. He likes making cookies for ponies, for one.
* RealMenWearPink: He enjoys making cookies. Being an EldritchAbomination, though, said cookies turn whoever eats them into Deep Ones.
* PluckyComicRelief: It seems his whole purpose in the story is to provide this for the Dark World.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Like Fillimon, he's this for his family, being the most genuinely benevolent of the lot.

For example, she says the heroes can't be real because they're not ''exactly'' the same as they were a thousand years ago (Applejack is more lady-like, Rarity is more rough and tumble, etc.), Twilight points out that by that logic, a mass murdering, psychopathic Nightmare version of Twilight shouldn't exist either. [[spoiler:She's so consumed by her thirst for revenge, she can't even realize the only reason Discord is even ''doing'' the things she wants to punish him for is because she's ''forcing'' him to as part of the IronicHell she put him into. In addition, her original plan to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong only failed because her thirst for revenge got the better of her]].

* YourSoulIsMine: [[spoiler:Assimilated countless Twilight Sparkles over the time loop, whether they wanted to be or not. Their souls are still inside of her.]]

** They still genuinely seem to care for each other and Nightmare Eclipse. Nightmare Mirror also seems to have compassion for Apple Pie (and is implied to have saved her own version somehow) and Spike still loves Rarity, but neither of them are willing to spare them for this.

** Nightmare Mirror reassured Apple Pie that she isn't the one who shouldn't exist and is implied to have somehow saved her own version of her. Doesn't stop her from trying to kill her, but hey, it's better than most of the Nightmare's attitudes.

** Nightmare Mirror is heavily implied to have saved her Apple Pie and hid her from Eclipse.

* SympathyForTheDevil: The Mane Six end up feeling this way for them in the second fight. The most obvious are Nightmare Mirror, Manacle, and Banneret. The former two [[BeingEvilSucks hate themselves for what they've become]] while the latter is heartbroken over their inability to make Rarity become a Nightmare so they can be reunited.

* UndyingLoyalty: To Eclipse, their leader and friend. Manacle most of all, being the Nightmare of Loyalty.

* BigBad: [[spoiler:Seems to be [[BigBadEnsemble the other one]] that the Valleyard alluded to in his FinalSpeech, as she fits the description and outright tries to make Twilight become [[HeWhoFightsMonsters She Who Fights Monster]] and ''[[SuperpoweredEvilSide go Nightmare]]'']]. It's cemented with the reveal that [[spoiler:she turned the entire Dark World into a GroundhogDayLoop to punish Discord for all eternity. She finally emerges for the FinalBattle after Discord's death and Twilight refuses to reset time, revealing herself to be a [[FallenHero version of Twilight]] who turned into a vengeance-crazed Nightmare.]]
