* HopeIsScary: In his own madness and desperation, he fooled himself into believing [[spoiler:PrisonerExchange for a day would occur once the Dreamer was consumed. Kel'Dras believed Edax would want this human disciple she acquired as her [[HumanPet new plaything]] to replace him, and allow him to enjoy the world before Edax consumed what little remains. In reality, the evil goddess [[VillainousGlutton had no intentions of letting either of them go]] -- it's only through the Dream Shard does the Dreamer escape Edax's clutches and their desolate dreamscape, while Kel'Drax can only look on with despair and envy.]]

* TheNeedless: Edax sustains his [[spoiler:life force, forcing him to stay with them forever by putting him in a state of temporal flux. This ensures he will never need to eat or sleep again.]]
* NeglectfulPrecursors: While he cannot be singled out for blame, he's nevertheless the remnant of a powerful ancient race who [[spoiler:worshipped Edax [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway over Eden]], and contributed to [[MakeMyMonsterGrow making them the apocalyptic monster god]] we see today. His people were also irresponsible to have left the keys to the deity's prison easily accessible. Even he lampshades this]].

* PlayerCharacter: He's ontrollable during the Ethereal Crux area in the second game. He handles much like the Dreamer, but with [[JumpPhysics an extended jump]], since he's a rabbit.

* CurbStompBattle: Eden is [[spoiler:on the receiving end of one, and is horribly chewed up into a bloody mess for keeping Edax from eating the Dreamer.]]
* ExactWords: She insists that if [[spoiler:Edax wants the Dreamer and their freedom, they'll have to go through her. Edax [[HaveANiceDeath happily and cruelly obliges]].]]

* ObfuscatingStupidity: She pretends she has no idea what the temple ruins or the various keys lying about are for, but drops this act the moment she realizes [[spoiler:Edax has broken free of their prison.]]
* OhCrap: When the Dreamer confesses to her that they've [[spoiler:released Edax from their oceanic prison, she immediately swims out to confront the shark-whale-anglerfish monster, but it's already too late.]]

* StopWorshippingMe: Eden's a lovely kind sea monster that puts the well-being of others before her own. She never cared about being seen as a goddess by the cephalopods. Unfortunately, the [[spoiler:alien octopi peoples [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly turned to Edax, who demanded more and more tribute]], seeing them as more worthy to be glorified.]]

Wandering into the forbidding depths of an ancient temple, the Dreamer finds a mysterious creature in the [[UnderwaterRuins Sunken World]] update in ''Boundless Dreams''. They beg to be freed, [[spoiler:but soon reveal themself to be an immense forgotten deity that consumes all. Their hunger uncontrollable, the PhysicalGod envelops all living things.]]

* AboveGoodAndEvil: [[spoiler:The immortal Edax considers themself to be above consequence, [[EntitledToHaveYou with an inherent right to ingest every living being]], and the cephalopods sealing them away is to her mind a perverse transgression the Dreamer must put right.]]
* AlluringAnglerfish: [[spoiler:They know what [[TheChessmaster makes mortals/meals tick]]. They tempted many cephalopods into their maw by [[ThereIsAGod having them worship them as a god]], by [[EldritchOceanAbyss fear]] or [[KeeperOfForbiddenKnowledge various promises]]. With the Dreamer, they entice them easily with [[CuriosityIsACrapshoot curiosity alone]].]]
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:Once unshackled from their stone prison, they devour the entire Sunken World dreamscape, along with Eden, the oceanographers -- ''everyone''. Having gorged themself, Edax falls asleep, pleased they have the Dreamer all to themself.]]
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Being shark-like, they have these, and the Cephalopods greatly feared staring into them, as the sight alone induced madness.
* BiggerOnTheInside: [[spoiler:Their belly is ''vast'', endless, and up to the task of swallowing up [[BigEater an alien world and digesting all its people]] to satisfy their boundless hunger.]]

* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: [[spoiler:They will not harm Kel'Dras, one of the four rulers of the Cephalopod race that imprisoned them ages ago, because if they do, they'll be alone.]]
* CivilizationDestroyer: [[spoiler:Edax has swallowed up many [[ExtremeOmnivore peoples, races and cities]] just to take the edge off their belly's ravenous emptiness.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Even weakened after [[spoiler:untold millennia of imprisonment, their fellow deity Eden was still no match for them, and they rip her bloodily apart for standing in the way of their first binge in countless years.]]
* DidntSeeThatComing: While they're in a FoodComa, the Dreamer [[spoiler:escapes their stomach via recovering a Dream Shard. Even though they're a PlanetEater eternal mad god, the dreamscapes of Hypnagogia are infinite, so [[LeftHanging it's unlikely]] the two will ever meet again.]]
* EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: [[spoiler:Edax is on the verge of being a PlanetEater, and consumes the entire alien cephalopod world after being freed of their prison by the Dreamer.]]
* GodsNeedPrayerBadly: The cephalopods held them in higher regard than Eden, thinking of the latter as nothing more than a "[[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway valley serpent]]", whereas they revered Edax as a true deity. [[spoiler:This [[StartOfDarkness inflated their ego]], and their body soon followed, resulting in a case of MakeMyMonsterGrow.]]
* HiddenDepths: Edax isn't some mindless predator [[spoiler:that [[BlackHoleBelly vacuums up the cosmos]] without a second thought, and knows if they consume everything [[TheAloner they'll be alone]], so they keep Kel'Dras safe inside them for eternity. Likewise, they [[YouWillBeSpared keep the Dreamer]] when they prove to be a worthy disciple, so Edax isn't above showing gratitude or compassion, albeit in a [[ItsAllAboutMe warped and twisted]] way.]]
* HorrorHunger: [[spoiler:They cannot just stop devouring everyone and everything. Being imprisoned in the sunken temple for millennia means their cravings for sacrifices have become unbearably agonizing.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:They consider their eternal imprisonment a grave injustice for a mortal like the Dreamer to correct, but they themself assimilate all they consume, and has even kept one cephalopod alien survivor alive inside her belly for countless years, just so she wouldn't be lonely.]]

* OurGodsAreDifferent: For the {{Cthulhumanoid}} race, Edax is ''[[CrystalDragonJesus their version]]'' of '''Cthulhu''', and their presence alone drives them mad.
* ThePunishment: [[spoiler:For their crimes in devouring fathomless races and cities without mercy, the cephalopods not only sealed them away in an eternal prison, but somehow ''[[{{Unperson}} stripped them of their very name]]''. It can only be written down, but never be spoken aloud by anyone, not even by their fellow deity and former friend Eden.]]
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:Edax was imprisoned forever for consuming an untold number of peoples and civilizations. Though they can thrash and cause the ruined temple, to crumble further into decay, they cannot free themself without outside help in the form of the Dreamer.]]
* ThisIsMyHuman: They become ''very possessive'' over the Dreamer [[spoiler:after they free them, possibly [[YouWillBeSpared as a reward]] for doing so. Edax intends to keep them [[FateWorseThanDeath for all time inside their stomach]] along with Kel'Dras, [[FoodComa but unbeknownst]] to them, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere the Dreamer escapes]].]]
* ThreateningShark: Overlapping with SeaMonster, as they have a long illicium sprouting from the middle of their head, which is associated with anglerfish, and according to Kel'Dras, they are equal parts MonsterWhale too.
* TimeAbyss: There's no telling how old they and Eden are, as both were ancient when the [[{{Precursors}} cephalopod race]] were young.
* YouWillBeSpared: Feeling eternally indebted to the Dreamer, whom they call their [[spoiler:disciple, Edax swallows them up whole and unharmed before the crushing ocean depths destroy their [[HigherTechSpecies alien diving suit]]. It's only thanks to the Dream Shard that they're able to escape their clutches at all.]]

A huge imposing vulture-like creature the Dreamer encounters in ''Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams''. They claim to be the Guardian of the [[HubLevel dream nexus]] and [[CosmicKeystone Dream Crystal]], but who are they really? They say it's up to the Dreamer to repair the shattered Dream Crystal, but can they be trusted? After all, it was Gogi who played that role in the first game...

* AffablyEvil: They appear to be a NobleDemon initially, [[spoiler:but are actually a DevilInPlainSight VileVulture who becomes ''[[EldritchAbomination something far worse]]'' when Gogi opposes them.]]
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:In the end, they scream that they cannot be destroyed, just as they're erased from existence by Gogi for trying to corrupt the Dreamer's subconscious.]]

* GoodIsImpotent: They believe [[spoiler:that without evil, dreams are meaningless and pointless, a viewpoint Gogi abhors and finds them to be especially worthy of condemnation for.]]

* IceQueen: They are completely uninterested in the Dreamer trying to befriend them, and will deflect any compliment or trust the human may give them.

* RobeAndWizardHat: They acquire a witch's hat midway through the game as the Dreamer begins reassembling the Dream Crystal.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler: Their origins are a collection of all the repressed and horrific experiences the Dreamer had ever encountered in the real-world. Gogi could do little more than collect and contain it all away, but the Dreamer [[DespairEventHorizon giving into their despair and abandoning hope]] allowed all that evil to assume a physical form.]]
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler:They recoil from the Dream Crystal horrified when Gogi breaks free [[SealedGoodInACan of his imprisonment]].]]

* WithholdingTheirName: They never reveal their true name to be [[spoiler:"Grimthorn", and it's only by unlocking the [[MonsterCompendium character model gallery]] that the player can discover this fact.]]

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler:Hypno turns on the Dreamer as soon as they reassemble the Dream Crystal. Having already usurped Gogi from his position as Guardian, they now plan to use the Dream Crystal's power to create endless nightmares for the Dreamer.]]
