Also known to Gogi as "The Restful One," the Dreamer is the PlayerCharacter of the Hypnagogia games. In the first game, they are trapped in an endless sleep and must journey through the dreams worlds finding the seven crystals needed to awaken. In the sequel, they are called upon to rescue Gogi from the shadow that kidnapped him.
----
* AllLovingHero: It's worth noting that in [[DialogueTree dialogue trees]], the most benign and caring option is usually highlighted as the first, implying this is their true nature, though players can choose [[ImNotHereToMakeFriends to ignore the characters]] in the dreamscape [[NominalHero who aren't essential]] to find the lost shards.
* AngelUnaware: They have no idea about [[spoiler:the true mystical nature of the Dream Protector Gogi, but care for them [[NonHumanSidekick as a friend]] through their journeys.]]
* {{Bookworm}}: The Dreamer is well-versed in deities from myth and mythology, and a good chunk of that knowledge and lore transitions over into their dreams.
* ComfortFood: They've always loved pretzels. Just the smell of freshly baked pastry is enough to make them nostalgic for their childhood.
* CuriosityIsACrapshoot: Though it was [[spoiler:a glaring weakness [[JerkassGods Edax exploited]] in the player who loves exploration, they nevertheless willingly [[SealedEvilInACan free said evil sea goddess]], and she destroys ''the entire Sunken World dreamscape''. The Dreamer ends up SwallowedWhole and kept alive as some twisted form of HumanPet inside the deity's belly, but [[KarmaHoudini escapes without consequence]] thanks to locating a Dream Shard.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: What triggers the plot of the sequel is that the Dreamer can no longer bear a [[CrapsackWorld harsh cruel reality]] where the goodness in beliefs, people, and society are on the evident decline. This despair and hopelessness allows their nightmares to not only manifest as evil entities, but [[AccidentallyBrokeTheMacGuffin threaten the stability]] of their dream world.
* FeaturelessProtagonist: They're a BlankSlate, and not much is known about them or their appearance in the real world.
* ToHellWithThisInfernalJob: It's implied in the Lava World, which is run by various ObstructiveBureaucrat devils and demons working a corporate job, that the Dreamer has a horrible call centre job in the real world [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere they want to quit]].
* HeroicMime: The part of our brains used for reading, writing, and speaking is usually inactive when we're dreaming, and as such, the Dreamer never speaks a word out loud in either game.
* HonorBeforeReason: They will ''never'' steal or borrow that which doesn't belong to them without asking permission, even when said items are clearly abandoned and needed to progress.
* HumanPet: Several characters from various dreamscapes try to exert their ownership over them, ''but they'll have none of it'' and can [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere escape their clutches]] with enough determination.
* IWantMyMommy: One of their earliest memories is accidentally being left alone in the "Heaven's Gate" shopping mall dressing room as the store was closing. They were so terrified they could only cry their eyes out. [[spoiler:The Dreamer doesn't recognize their past self in the [[TheMall Mall World]], but they comfort them anyway when no one else did, which makes the child proclaim in the [[FluffyCloudHeaven Heaven World]] that they [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre deserve happiness]] even if they don't think they do, and they will [[NoOntologicalInertia always remember the kindness of their future self]].]] According to WordOfGod, this was based on their own childhood real-life experience.
* KidnappedByTheCall: For abandoning their dreams, they're forced into a [[SummonEverymanHero deep sleep]] without end by the Dream Catcher Seraphim, and will never wake until they undo the damage wrought upon the [[DreamTellsYouToWakeUp Dream Crystal]].
* KindheartedCatLover: The Dreamer is implied to be one in the first game, as some of their fondest memories are being surrounded by cats in a visit to a [[ShrinesAndTemples Japanese Shinto shrine]]. These manifest in the dream world as friendly CatFolk.
* LearnedFromTheNews: In Space World, [[JerkassGods The Eye]] reveals the Dreamer can't stand how depressingly bleak [[EndangeringNewsBroadcast the news always was]], turning to the Internet to distract them from all the horrible going-ons in the world, only to find SocialMediaIsBad as well.
* MysteriousPast: Not much is known about their real-world life. Their past can only be [[JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind indirectly inferred from all the dreams]] they're having.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Their despair not only plunges their dreams and hopes into chaos and rejection, but also [[AccidentallyBrokeTheMacGuffin shatters the Dream Crystal]], giving a [[EldritchAbomination nightmarish force]] the opportunity to seize that power for itself.
* NominalHero: Depending on the player, some of their responses to [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman dreams in need]] can range from apathetic to downright mean.
* OurSoulsAreDifferent: The Dream Crystal is essentially a metaphorical representation of the core of the Dreamer's mind, so of course that makes it a CosmicKeystone, as it's the beating heart of the nexus of all worlds connecting conscious and subconscious worlds. It's also revealed by Gogi that he as Dream Protector [[spoiler:is an inner part of [[OurAngelsAreDifferent that overseeing force]], as well along with [[GuardianAngel the Dream Catcher]]. So, the Dreamer has not one ''but two'' [[BigGood cosmic forces]] watching over them]].
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: Faced with a harsh reality, the once WideEyedIdealist Dreamer turned their back on their hopes and dreams. Gogi says he's waited "a long time" for his return.
* {{Toys/TeddyBear}}: Their favourite toy when they were a child, though they threw it in the garbage along with many dreams long ago after growing up and becoming cynical.
* ToHellAndBack: They have to come to terms with all the rejected dreams they've left behind when they come to the Tower World, the dream version of Hell (or Purgatory). All the beings in its forgotten depths are lost and suffering without purpose. [[spoiler:Fortunately, [[YouAreWorthHell the Dream Catcher appears]] at the top of [[TheRedeemer the final tower to bring them all to Heaven]].]]
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Their anguish and unhappiness at how [[DespairEventHorizon miserable life is]], is tearing their dream world and the [[RecursiveReality worlds within]] apart.
* YourMindMakesItReal: So long as Gogi or the Dream Catcher are [[DreamWeaver in control]], the Dreamer [[AllJustADream can never suffer any harm]], but should the nightmares take over, they'll be unable to wake from [[AndIMustScream unending torment]].

!!Gogi
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hypnagogia_gogi.png]]

The Dream Protector of both games. Gogi appears as a [[{{Familiar}} cute pink rabbit]] who watches over the Dreamer constantly, serving as the passive GuardianEntity of their human's subconscious and their dreams. He appears in the hub world and first part of each world in the first game to give info on the dream worlds. In ''Boundless Dreams'', he is abducted by a shadowy nightmare and must be rescued.
----
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: He appears in the dreamscape mostly as a rabbit, since his [[spoiler:celestial form is impossible for the Dreamer to recognize or comprehend until the ending of the second game.]]
* BattleInTheCentreOfTheMind: As a GuardianEntity, he juggles the tasks of protecting the Dreamer, guiding them, repairing their broken dreams, ''and'' holding off [[EldritchAbomination the nightmares]] seeking to harm his human, all at once. But when [[spoiler:he's [[SealedGoodInACan imprisoned by Hypno]], it forces [[GuardianAngel The Dream Catcher]] to intervene.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Gogi returns just in time to save the Dreamer [[spoiler:from Hypno's tampering with the Dream Crystal]].
* BigGood: He will always [[DeclarationOfProtection protect the Dreamer]], no matter what.
* DistressedDude: One of the main goals in ''Boundless Dreams'' is to save him from the shadow that kidnapped him.
* {{Expy}}: According to WordOfGod, the inspiration for Gogi came from the White Rabbit in ''[[Literature/AlicesAdventuresInWonderland Alice In Wonderland]]''.
* GoodIsNotNice: As far as he's concerned, nightmares have no right to exist, and those that try to hurt the Dreamer must be purged. Gogi will ''gladly'' [[GuardianEntity curb-stomp any nightmare]] that threatens the sanctity of his human's life/dream world.
* {{Familiar}}: Every human being has their own unique rabbit-like Gogi taking care of them. The appearance of Gogi we see is only the one for this specific Dreamer.
* ForHappiness: In ''Boundless Dreams'', [[spoiler: Gogi rebukes Hypno's boasting that nightmares gave the Dreamer [[GoodIsImpotent a goal, a purpose the dreamscape was lacking]]. Instead, dreams are sacred experiences of imagination and self-reflection, and were never supposed to be corrupted by nightmares or have "a goal"]].
* HealingMagicIsTheHardest: He heals and restores all the broken dreams the Dreamer once cherished, but confesses it takes ''a lot'' of his strength to achieve this and [[TheRedeemer prevent his human]] from succumbing to nightmares.
* HeroicSacrifice: Gogi [[spoiler: ends up mortally injuring his physical form in ''Boundless Dreams'' to protect their beloved Dreamer from Hypno, asking them not to cry afterward since [[WeWillMeetAgain he'll always be there]] to protect them.]]
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Described as a being of [[HolyBurnsEvil absolute purity]], Gogi's sole purpose and only desire is to protect the Dreamer and the Dream Crystal from nightmares.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: In the first game, Gogi cheekily does a lot of this, promising that he'll watch over the player, but asks them to tell the [[SelfDeprecation developer immediately]] if they notice anything [[GameBreakingBug REALLY BAD]].
* MacGuffinGuardian: Gogi cares for the [[CosmicKeystone Dream Crystal]], which is also the very core of the Dreamer's conscious and subconscious.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He serves as a GuardianEntity in addition to the GuardianAngel the Dreamer already has. In ''Boundless Dreams'', his golden ethereal form is similar to the Dream Catcher's appearance.
* PlayerCharacter: He's controllable during the Ethereal Crux area in the second game. He handles much like the Dreamer, but with [[JumpPhysics an extended jump]], since he's a rabbit.
* TheRedeemer: He seeks to restore and save the Dreamer's mind, world, and inhabitants all from collapsing into nightmarish chaos.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: His rabbit physical form.
* RighteousRabbit: Gogi protects the Dreamer in both games from all malevolence, internal and external, that would disrupt the sanctity of their dream world.
* SealedGoodInACan: In ''Boundless Dreams'', he is imprisoned by [[spoiler:Hypno, who sought to usurp his position and power as Dream Protector away from him. This fails to hold him forever]].
* {{Sizeshifter}}: The nightmares of the first game attempt to keep the Dreamer from ever waking up. Gogi vows that they will not succeed, and grows larger to protect the Dreamer's pathway to the Dream Crystal and waking world.
* ThirdPersonPerson: As well as LeaningOnTheFourthWall, Gogi has a habit of referring [[ButHeSoundsHandsome to himself]] in the third person, in both [[spoiler:spirit or ethereal form]].
* WeWillMeetAgain: Promises to meet the Dreamer again in another life, another dream, or both.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He's absent for the majority of ''Boundless Dreams'', as [[spoiler:he was imprisoned by Hypno.]]
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: The Dreamer opts to throw themself into a black hole at the end of Space World when a space deity creature convinces them that their existence is pointless, and their quest is a meaningless endeavour without end. Elsewhere, across time and space, Gogi is surprised [[WhatTheHellHero by their decision]], then comforts their human [[PsychicLink in spirit from across the void]], telling them a mere black hole would never separate them, and they cannot begin to comprehend their own value and worth.
* YouLeaveHimAlone: [[spoiler:Hypno being about to attack their defenseless human as they grieve over his wounded body is the impetus for Gogi to bestow [[HolyBurnsEvil his angelic light]] upon the Dreamer, destroying the NightmareWeaver.]]

A huge imposing vulture-like creature the Dreamer encounters in ''Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams''. She claims to be the Guardian of the [[HubLevel dream nexus]] and [[CosmicKeystone Dream Crystal]], and tasks the Dreamer with repairing the Dream Crystal. She will appear before the entrance of the dream worlds and speak to the player, often asking them questions.
----
* BigBad: Of ''Boundless Dreams'' as the entity who kidnapped Gogi and shattered the Dream Crystal so she can rebuild it with her corruption and rule the dream worlds as twisted nightmares.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She appears to be a NobleDemon initially, but is actually a DevilInPlainSight VileVulture who becomes ''[[EldritchAbomination something far worse]]'' when Gogi opposes her.
* DefiantToTheEnd: In the end, she's screaming her beak off she cannot be destroyed, just as she's erased from existence by Gogi for trying to corrupt the Dreamer's subconscious.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: Hypno is the manifestation of all the sufferings and struggles the Dreamer has ever encountered in the waking world.
* {{Determinator}}: She's obsessed with claiming the Dream Crystal for herself, as with its power she can remake the dreamscape in her own image, imprisoning the Dreamer forever in a hellscape of all their worst fears.
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Unlike Gogi or the Dream Catcher, she cannot leave the nexus, and the longer the Dream Crystal remains in directionless disrepair, the weaker her grip on the Dreamer's subconscious becomes.
* CessationOfExistence: She's utterly obliterated by Gogi in the ending of ''Boundless Dreams''.
* TheCorruption: Hypno is the embodiment of all tainted dreams that are transformed and disfigured into nightmarish abominations.
* CuriosityIsACrapshoot: She tries to discourage the Dreamer from wandering off the path she set for them into worlds that don't contain shards of the Crystal.
* CutsceneBoss: Despite being a massive and powerful nightmare entity who is fully capable of combat, the Dreamer never gets to fight her; instead, Gogi battles her in a cutscene, makes a HeroicSacrifice, and gives the Dreamer the last of his power, after which Hypno is finished off with a single blast of light.
* EldritchAbomination: Her true form looks like something straight out of ''VideoGame/SilentHill1''.
* FetchQuest: Hypno sends the Dreamer on one to retrieve all the [[DismantledMacGuffin missing shards]] of the Dream Crystal.
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: She sometimes watch the Dreamer's progress from a distance with [[GlowingEyes ominous glowing eyes]].
* GoodIsImpotent: She believes that without evil, dreams are meaningless and pointless, a viewpoint Gogi abhors and finds her to be especially worthy of condemnation for.
* HolyBurnsEvil: The wounded Gogi bestows his divine light upon [[YouLeaveHimAlone the defenseless Dreamer]], which burns Hypno away to nothing.
* IceQueen: She is completely uninterested in the Dreamer trying to befriend her, and will deflect any compliment or trust the human may give her.
* NightmareWeaver: Hypno is the manifestation of all the Dreamer's fears and nightmares. Because they gave up their hopes and dreams, Hypno/Grimthorn manifested into being, and now seeks to plunge the dreamscape into a "paradise of eternal nightmare".
* RobeAndWizardHat: She acquires a witch's hat midway through the game as the Dreamer begins reassembling the Dream Crystal.
* SealedEvilInACan: Her origins are a collection of all the repressed and horrific experiences the Dreamer had ever encountered in the real-world. Gogi could do little more than collect and contain it all away, but the Dreamer [[DespairEventHorizon giving into their despair and abandoning hope]] allowed all that evil to assume a physical form.
* ThisCannotBe: She recoils from the Dream Crystal horrified when Gogi breaks free [[SealedGoodInACan of his imprisonment]].
* VileVillainLaughableLackey: As an EldritchAbomination of nightmares, Hypno is the vile villain to her sidekick the Mimic.
* WithholdingTheirName: She never reveals her true name to be "Grimthorn", and it's only by unlocking the [[MonsterCompendium character model gallery]] that the player can discover this fact.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Enraged that her servant the Mimic failed to gather the shards of the Dream Crystal in ''Boundless Dreams'', Hypno hurls him into the void.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: She turns on the Dreamer as soon as they reassemble the Dream Crystal. Having already usurped Gogi from his position as Guardian, she now plans to use the Dream Crystal's power to create endless nightmares for the Dreamer.
* YourSoulIsMine: Her master plan is to create a never-ending "paradise of nightmares" and trap the Dreamer eternally inside a hell-world of her own making.

[[folder:The Mimic]]
!!Mimic
[[quoteright:318:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hypnagogia_mimic.png]]

A strange patchwork rabbit the Dreamer encounters following them throughout the dreamscape in ''Boundless Dreams''. It claims to be Gogi, but something is obviously suspicious about not just their appearance, but their demeanor as well.
----
* AlienBlood: It looks like something straight out of ''{{WesternAnimation/Coraline}}'' yet it leaves pools of blood behind it occasionally too.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: It oozes with passive-aggression in its commentary on the dreamscapes.
* CreepyDoll: It's a very poor imitation of the real Gogi, and even the generally naive Dreamer sees through the [[PaperThinDisguise thinly-veiled ruse]] straightaway. [[spoiler:The game's ending confirms it was working for Hypno, but miserably failed it's mistress, in gathering all the shards of the Dream Crystal]]
* TheDogBitesBack: As shown in TheStinger, [[spoiler:the Mimic survives Hypno's attempt to get rid of it, and washes up on the shores of a tropical paradise strewn with the Dream Crystals of other humans. Mimic makes its intent to conquer them all clear with a SlasherSmile.]]
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: It cannot understand why the Dreamer's dreams are diverse, sometimes chaotic, and always seemingly lacking purpose or direction.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: The sheer irony of the trope aside, [[spoiler:the Mimic doesn't have much in the way of brains, but was content to explore the endlessly wondrous dreamscapes. It's thanks to Hypno's cruelty toward it that it develops a true malice towards others.]]
* KillerRabbit: [[spoiler:As a Gogi-shaped sidekick to the BigBad of the second game, it's intended to fill this role, [[MinionWithAnFInEvil but it manages to botch its goal of collecting the Dream Shards]].]]
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: The [[spoiler:Mimic]] honestly thought its orders were to follow the Dreamer and "have fun" across the various dream worlds.
* ThinkingUpPortals: The Mimic teleports away after telling the Dreamer to have fun in whichever dream world they both find themselves in.
* VileVillainLaughableLackey: [[spoiler:The laughable lackey to the vile villain EldritchAbomination of nightmares that is Hypno.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Dream Catcher]]
!!The Dream Catcher
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hypnagogia_gogi_angel.png]]

A mysterious angelic force encountered in ''Boundless Dreams'' that appears as a high ranking Seraphim/Ophanim. It claims that it has been waiting for the Dreamer to return to their dreamscape for a long time, and monitors the Dreamer's progress with interest. Its true form is both awesome and terrifying to behold.
----
* AboveGoodAndEvil: It prefers [[TheWatcher to watch]] and [[GreaterScopeParagon protect in secret]], and [[GodsHandsAreTied doesn't judge]] the Dreamer for exercising their free will in whatever their real or waking world choices may be.
* AngelicAbomination: It's Biblically accurate, complete with a "Do not be afraid" CatchPhrase.
* BigGood: By its benevolent will alone, the all-powerful entity prevents the Dreamer from dying in their sleep, and prevents the Sleep Paralysis Demons from attacking.
* DreamWeaver: It is [[spoiler: an AllPowerfulBystander]] in the dreamscape, who doesn't interfere with the Dreamer's journey. Justified, as it wants them to [[RousseauWasRight grow and develop by themself]], and [[AwakeningTheSleepingGiant only gets involved]] if they are in any real danger, as Gogi [[spoiler:is incapacitated]].
* GodWasMyCopilot: The reason why you don't die if you fall into a [[BottomlessPits bottomless pit?]] The Dream Catcher is watching over you.
* GoodIsNotNice: Whereas Gogi will destroy fallen dreams/nightmares if they threaten his beloved human, the Dream Catcher Seraphim takes this [[ExaggeratedTrope up to eleven]] by ''[[DreamApocalypse destroying entire out-of-control dreamscapes]]'' and [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman all their inhabitants]] just to keep them safe. [[spoiler:It annihilates the Tower World from existence once it's served its purpose in restoring the Dreamer's fantasies and hopes for life.]]
* GuardianAngel: [[spoiler:To the Dreamer.]]
* GuardianOfTheMultiverse: It is effectively the ''God'' of the dreamscape, as it creates and destroys them purely for the Dreamer's own benefit, always pulling a DeusExMachina whenever its human intentionally or unintentionally puts themself in mortal peril.
* NoNameGiven: We never find out what its true name is.
* TheOmnipotent: It has complete mastery over the dream worlds. It can make or unmake realities at will, and is AboveTheGods for that reason alone.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Just as easily as it creates dreamscapes, it will destroy them too once their purpose is fulfilled, or if they spiral into nightmarish chaos. It does all this [[RousseauWasRight for the Dreamer's sake]].
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: It is a hybrid of a Seraphim and a Ophanim, which in many Christian theologies are both ''very'' high-ranking archangels that are normally responsible for upholding the throne of {{God}}, so it's interesting that this one has apparently been [[CelestialBureaucracy delegated the task]] of watching over just one single soul with no apparent greater purpose or prophetic destiny.
* {{Railroading}}: It sets the Dreamer on a predetermined path of its own making in order to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong. Even if the Dreamer should find a way to clip out of bounds in the Mall World and enter the Backrooms, they're [[YouCantFightFate dropped straight back]] into the dreamscape it created for them once the detour is done.
* StairwayToHeaven: At the end of the Tower World, [[spoiler:[[YouAreWorthHell the Seraphim appears]] [[TheRedeemer to bring the Dreamer and their fallen dreams to the Heaven World]].]]
* SummonBiggerFish: The Dream Catcher only gets directly involved in the events of the game because [[spoiler:Gogi has been captured by the nightmarish force Hypno.]] It must [[YourMindMakesItReal now serve as dreamcatcher to protect the Dreamer from harm]] while they traverse the dreamscapes.
* SummonEverymanHero: It forces the Dreamer into a [[KidnappedByTheCall deep sleep]] without end until they can restore the devastation they've wrought upon the [[DreamTellsYouToWakeUp Dream Crystal]] and their own dreamscapes for abandoning them.
* TheWatcher: It prefers to take a passive role in supervising the Dreamer night after night, but will often steer its protected mortal [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre back on track]] if they [[StrawNihilist gets nihilistic]].

!!Foreman Fran
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/foreman_fran.png]]

The taskmaster micro-managing foreman of a goblin mining company. She's encountered in the [[CrystalLandscape Cave World]] of ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* BadBoss: None of her goblin crew enjoy working under her, even those she's [[PetTheDog delegated managerial positions]] to. This is due to Fran's selfish bad attitude, and she ensures her workers get no breaks either.
* BigNo: When the Dreamer reclaims the Dream Crystal shard that she coveted for herself and she's powerless to stop them.
* DugTooDeep: Her miners accidentally uncovered the portal to [[BigRedDevil Stan the CEO's]] telemarketing company on Lava World (not that she cares).
* {{Greed}}: She's only motivated by material wealth. Fran covets the shard of the Dream Crystal from the moment she first lays her eye upon it when it falls into the caverns, and intends to exploit it for even greater riches.
* HaHaHaNo: The Dreamer gets this response from Fran if they think they can go home or get a break.
* OurGoblinsAreDifferent: Her company resembles stereotypical dwarves more than goblins, given their expertise in mining for crystals and gems.
* StarterVillain: She's the antagonist of the first world, the Cave World, who mistreats her miners in an effort to get them to find the Dream Crystal Shard that she greedily covets.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Fran believes all her workers are incompetent and lazy. Not that she does anything [[IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance except bark orders]], mind you.
* ThisIsMyHuman: Anyone can see the Dreamer's not a goblin, they don't work for her, and her workplace isn't their home. [[BadBoss Try explaining that to her, and you'll get laughed out of the room]].
* WakeUpCall: Shards of the [[OurSoulsAreDifferent precious Dream Crystal]] transcend time and space, and therefore are valuable beyond measure. Fran serves to highlight that the Dreamer isn't the only person who could want one, and hers is a less than noble venture.

The elderly magician under contract for the goblin mining company in the [[CrystalLandscape Cave World]] of ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: [[spoiler:The Dreamer reunites with him in [[FluffyCloudHeaven Heaven World]], where Bernard tells them he always believed they would regain their hopes and memories, as [[SevenHeavenlyVirtues patience is a virtue]] so few young people have nowadays.]]
* CoolOldGuy: The sage likes to impart his wisdom free of charge, and has the Dreamer's best interests at heart.
* IJustWantToBeFree: Nothing would make Bernard happier than retiring and exploring the endless wonders of the dreamscape, but unfortunately [[ResignationsNotAccepted he works for Foreman Fran]].
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: He reminds the player no good can come from dreams trying to control the entire dreamscape without Gogi or the Dream Catcher. Bernard implores the Dreamer to recover the shard and not let Fran steal it for herself.
* OurGoblinsAreDifferent: Bernard can cast magic spells and create platforms for Fran's mining company to retrieve hard-to-reach crystals and gems.
* YouthIsWastedOnTheDumb: He sees all the younger goblins as obsessed with either making [[{{Greed}} money]], or being [[ItsAllAboutMe lazy in general]], instead of stopping once in a while to appreciate the hidden beauty of the caverns.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drizzle.png]]

A devil telemarketer working away for all eternity in Stan's company in the [[LethalLavaLand Lava World]] of ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Drizzle ''hates'' [=NFTs=] (Non-Fungible Tokens) and spamming residents of other dreamscapes with cryptocurrency blockchains.
* HellHasNewManagement: [[spoiler:He successfully takes over the LethalLavaLand dreamscape, or [[IronicHell what's left of it]], when the Dreamer uses their [[LoopholeAbuse temporary powers of termination]] to fire his boss Stan.]]
* NoSympathy: He's pleased the Dreamer puts [[spoiler: Chet, Heckler and Stan all in the "[[CirclesOfHell Ninth Level of Unemployment Heck]]" since they were all [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkasses]] anyway]].
* PetTheDog: He lets the Dreamer [[spoiler: return back to the [[CrystalLandscape Cave World]] after disposing of Stan.]]
* TheStarscream: It's easy to miss, but upon your arrival, he takes a special interest in you, since this dream version of PlanetHeck operates on a YouKillItYouBoughtIt basis, and he believes you're his best opportunity to become the new CEO.
* SoldHisSoulForADonut: You can sell a tiny piece of your soul to Drizzle just to teleport up to the top of Stan's volcano office. But, since he has bigger fish (or bigger devils) [[TheStarscream to fry]], agreeing to this deal has no overall consequence on the story.
* UnstoppableRage: Drizzle laments that it's very easy to lose your temper on a bad day at the office, but almost impossible to calm down again thereafter.
* YourSoulIsMine: Averted. The Dreamer can choose to opt for a DealWithTheDevil if the long trek up to Stan bores them. Drizzle is unable to enforce this contract, however, since no Dream Crystal shards are to be found in this realm, and it's heavily implied [[spoiler:the Dreamer's mind [[GuardianEntity belongs in the care of Gogi]] and their soul in the care of [[GuardianAngel the Dream Catcher]], anyway]].

A divisional MeanBoss manager in Stan's telemarketing company in the [[LethalLavaLand Lava World]] of ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: Subverted, because as TemptingFate as it would be, he believes determination should drive every employee to want his cushy job.
* BigRedDevil: Noticeably bigger and taller than any of the other interns at the office.
* DisposableIntern: He considers the Dreamer nothing but a gofer, and their first "official" task is, yep, you guessed it -- [[YouGetMeCoffee coffee duties]].
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler: The Dreamer is given powers to fire anyone in the company, and [[PayEvilUntoEvil promptly terminates him]]. The magma dreamscape itself swallows him up.]]
* EvilInc: Chet enforces an eternally hectic, motivated by spite, work ethic. The other demon coworkers are NOT happy about this, though. When [[spoiler:the Dreamer fires him, [[AndThereWasMuchRejoicing they applaud him]] for getting rid of the devil.]]
* GoshDangItToHeck: He never says "Hell", but it's justified since this is merely a PlanetHeck dream and not [[spoiler:the [[EvilTowerOfOminousness true hellscape]] that is the Dreamer's lost and forgotten dreams]].
* MeanBoss: An insult-throwing {{Jerkass}} to everyone he meets who ultimately deserves [[spoiler: the job dismissal the player gives him]].
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: His boss Stan has [[DevilsJobOffer already hired you]], but Chet won't [[spoiler:even [[FiringDay let you fire him]]]] until you first pass your interview.
* VillainousBreakdown: Chet goes on a [[DudeWheresMyRespect self-entitled rant]] that he and [[SurroundedByIdiots he alone]] made the company when the Dreamer, under Stan's orders, [[spoiler:fires him for getting too big for his britches]].

----
* ATasteOfTheirOwnMedicine: The Dreamer [[spoiler:terminates him for his ogrish and brutish ways. Heckler ends up [[HoistByHisOwnPetard disposing of himself]] shortly after.]]
* BerserkButton: Heckler ''hates'' his beauty sleep being disturbed. The problem is that [[LazyBum he's always dozing]], so it's a very easily pressable-button.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Enraged that the Dreamer woke him up twice [[spoiler:([[VillainousBreakdown and being dismissed]]), the monster unleashes his EyeBeams at them, but doing so destroys the supporting structure around his office, quickly resulting in a CollapsingLair]].
* LazyBum: He sleeps all day long and never does any actual work.
* ShoutOut: Heckler's design, appearance, [[PayEvilUntoEvil and fate]] are a nod to the LethalLavaLand Bullies in ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''.
* UltimateJobSecurity: Subverted. He considers himself [[AuthorityEqualsAsskicking answerable to no one]], and crushed three demon office workers previously for merely annoying him. [[BigRedDevil Stan, however]], is not impressed with him. Heckler is down to a final written warning for his constant sleeping on the job. 241
The large and in charge BigRedDevil himself who owns the telemarketing Telestar company in the [[LethalLavaLand Lava World]] of ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* BadBoss: Has stepped on many devils and demons over the eons to become the chief executive officer calling all the shots. Workers like Milton that annoy him yet are too useful to dismiss often find themselves KickedUpstairs.
* BigRedDevil: Definitely fits the bill as he's ''huge'', and towers over the Dreamer atop his volcano office.
* BroughtDownToNormal: After [[spoiler:getting fired]] by the Dreamer, his title is now "Just Stan".
* DevilsJobOffer: He wants the Dreamer to become his own personal intern, regardless of what Stakeholder Chet [[DisposableIntern may think]], who can slave away for eternity and make enough profits for him to [[ItsAllAboutMe afford]] ''a second'' volcanic mountain to recline on.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He gives the Dreamer the absolute power [[spoiler:to [[SuperpowersForADay temporarily terminate]] ''anyone'' in the Telestar company. Stan doesn't consider being specific as to whom they [[LoopholeAbuse can or can't fire]], nor does he [[ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem revoke those privileges]] once the Dreamer's task is complete. Thus, he gets terminated from his position as CEO.]]
* FindersRulers: In a dreamworld that operates on a YouKillItYouBoughtIt basis, Stan's a CorruptCorporateExecutive who "[[KlingonPromotion inherited the power]]" of CEO rather than rightfully earned it.
* FiringDay: He initiates this on the Dreamer's arrival, as he's pissed with Chet constantly abusing his authority and Heckler being a LazyBum.
* GracefulLoser: Unlike [[VillainousBreakdown Chet and Heckler]], Stan's impressed with the Dreamer [[LoopholeAbuse exploiting a loophole in their firing power]], remarking that they're both quite similar in their determination. [[spoiler:As his power crashes down onto him, he remarks the human [[SoProudOfYou will go far someday]].]]
* LoadBearingBoss: After the Dreamer [[spoiler: [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu fires Stan the CEO]], the PlanetHeck landscape deteriorates into an [[IronicHell empty barren void]], leaving Drizzle [[HellHasNewManagement free to take over]].]]
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Stan does nothing but give out orders from his volcano's lava lake.
* ThisIsMyHuman: The Dreamer is no demon telemarketer or a native to [[LethalLavaLand Lava World]] dreamscape, but Stan asserts ownership over their immortal soul anyway. The other demons don't question Stan's orders.
* TotallyRadical: He tries to be a cool laid-back boss, but his underlings show the gigantic demon's more of an unapproachable BadBoss.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Chet and Heckler have both trodden on his last nerve. He decides both of them should be sacked, and delegates this task to the Dreamer.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Althos is [[MySkullRunnethOver overflowing with wisdom]], but directionless without the Dreamer to steer them back onto the topic at hand.
* ElementalEmbodiment: They embody water itself in the [[AlienGeometries Mist World]].
* FetchQuest: Althos sends the Dreamer to speak with Treasurer Silus and the Seers Griss and Rehmuss of the reflection pools. After completing the tasks of gathering vials of water from two reflection pools, they will reconstruct the shard in tangible form.
* GodIsGood: They're a kind friendly [[SerpentOfImmortality snake deity]] to the Dreamer, and wants to recover the shard for them, much unlike their serpent followers, who are busy or irritable and put him to a SecretTestOfCharacter.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Upon restoring the shard for the Dreamer, they warn them that they sense a [[EldritchAbomination dark force]] at work conspiring.

* CuttingCorners: Rolk complains at length that their diving operations are hindered by funding problems and [[NoOSHACompliance shoddy construction jobs]] which could undermine the entire undersea expedition in destroying priceless relics, or get someone killed.
* EatenAlive: [[spoiler:He meets a horrible end by Edax's world-ending teeth.]]
* ForScience: He captains a research mission seeking to uncover the secrets of a lost {{Cthulhumanoid}} ancient civilization and force their way into the sealed superstructure at its center, in spite of the [[ForbiddenFruit ominous warnings]] found throughout.
* KilledOffScreen: [[spoiler:Rolk is mauled into a bloody mess by the escaping Edax when the Dreamer returns to the ocean deity's prison.]]
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: The neoliths of the ancient sunken temple give him and his research team the creeps, but in spite of this the team keeps pressing [[TemptingFate onward and downward]].

* BraveScot: Eden speaks with a Scottish accent, and bravely stands up to [[spoiler: the far more powerful deity and her former friend, Edax.]]
* CuriosityIsACrapshoot: She forgives the Dreamer for [[spoiler:freeing Edax, because she sees them as a child who needs protecting, oblivious to [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil just how depraved]] the shark-whale-angler deity Edax has become.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Eden is [[spoiler:on the receiving end of one, and is horribly chewed up into a bloody mess for keeping the evil goddess Edax from eating the Dreamer.]]
* ExactWords: She insists that if [[spoiler:Edax wants the Dreamer and their freedom, she'll have to go through her. Edax [[HaveANiceDeath happily and cruelly obliges]].]]
* GentleGiant: A kind and loving ancient sea monster. If only the ancient cephalopods [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway had appreciated Edax equally to her]], then her former-friend's descent into an [[EvilIsBigger all-consuming deity]] might've been averted.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Eden's been alone for so long, she longs for companionship and conversation so much that she fails miserably as a ThresholdGuardian and doesn't begrudge the Dreamer at all for wandering into the temple ruins, despite the very real danger their presence poses.
* KidsPreferBoxes: A child at heart, Eden loves treasure chests more than the relics hidden within them, polishing and cleaning them everyday.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She pretends she has no idea what the temple ruins or the various keys lying about are for, but drops this act the moment she realizes [[spoiler:Edax has broken free of her prison.]]
* OhCrap: When the Dreamer confesses to her that they've [[spoiler:released Edax from her oceanic prison, she immediately swims out to confront the shark-whale-anglerfish monster, but it's already too late.]]
* PsychoElectricEel: Averted. Eden never gets a chance to use any of her powers [[spoiler:against Edax, as [[OurGodsAreDifferent even in their weakened state, Edax is already so powerful that the fight is lost before it even begins]].]]
* StopWorshippingMe: Eden's a lovely kind sea monster that puts the well-being of others before her own. She never cared about being seen as a goddess by the cephalopods. Unfortunately, the [[spoiler:alien octopi peoples [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly turned to Edax, who demanded more and more tribute]], seeing them as the more worthy ocean goddess to be glorified.]]
* TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow: She tries to encourage the Dreamer to let their curiosity lead them into shallower, friendlier waters, and not the unknown terrifying dark depths that have many great evils sealed within.
* TimeAbyss: There's no telling how old she [[spoiler:and Edax are, as both were ancient when the [[{{Precursors}} cephalopod race]] were young.]]
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Eden was once close friends with her twin ocean deity [[spoiler:Edax, before the latter became her EvilCounterpart through excessive [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly worship]].]]
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: If the Dreamer tells her their aspiration in life is "to be loved," she laughs, and tells them it's just as important to learn to love being just yourself as to learn to love others too.

A mysterious creature in the forbidden depths of an ancient temple. She begs to be freed, but soon reveals herself to be an immense forgotten deity that consumes all. Her hunger uncontrollable, the PhysicalGod envelops all living things.
----
* AboveGoodAndEvil: The immortal Edax considers herself to be above consequence, [[EntitledToHaveYou with an inherent right to ingest every living being]], and the cephalopods sealing her away is, to her mind, a perverse transgression the Dreamer must put right.
* ArcVillain: Of the Underwater World, as she is the malevolent entity that tricks the Dreamer into freeing her from her prison so she can devour the world.
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:Once unshackled from her stone prison, she devours the entire Sunken World dreamscape, along with Eden, the oceanographers -- ''everyone''. Having gorged herself, Edax falls asleep, pleased she has the Dreamer all to herself.]]
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Being shark-like, she has these, and the Cephalopods greatly feared staring into them, as the sight alone induced madness.
* BiggerOnTheInside: Her belly is ''vast'', endless, and up to the task of swallowing up [[BigEater an alien world and digesting all its people]] to satisfy her boundless hunger.
* ButThouMust: Refusing to help free her from her prison will prompt her [[AintTooProudToBeg to plead for the Dreamer's help]] again.
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: She will not harm Kel'Dras, one of the four rulers of the Cephalopod race that imprisoned her ages ago, because if she does, she'll be alone.
* CivilizationDestroyer: Edax has swallowed up many [[ExtremeOmnivore peoples, races and cities]] just to take the edge off her belly's ravenous emptiness.
* CurbStompBattle: Even weakened after untold millennia of imprisonment, her fellow deity Eden was still no match for her, and she rips her bloodily apart for standing in the way of her first binge in countless years.
* DidntSeeThatComing: While she's in a FoodComa, the Dreamer escapes her stomach via recovering a Dream Shard. Even though she's a PlanetEater eternal mad goddess, the dreamscapes of Hypnagogia are infinite, so [[LeftHanging it's unlikely]] the two will ever meet again.
* GodsNeedPrayerBadly: The cephalopods held her in higher regard than Eden, thinking of the latter as nothing more than a "[[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway valley serpent]]", whereas they revered Edax as a true deity. [[spoiler:This [[StartOfDarkness inflated her ego]], and her body soon followed, resulting in a case of MakeMyMonsterGrow.]]
* HiddenDepths: Edax isn't some mindless predator [[spoiler:that [[BlackHoleBelly vacuums up the cosmos]] without a second thought, and knows if she consumes everything [[TheAloner she'll be alone]], so the goddess keeps Kel'Dras safe inside her infinite belly for eternity. Likewise, she [[YouWillBeSpared keeps the Dreamer]] when they prove to be a worthy disciple, so Edax isn't above showing gratitude or compassion, albeit in a [[ItsAllAboutMe warped and twisted]] way.]]
* HorrorHunger: She cannot stop herself from devouring everyone and everything. Being imprisoned in the sunken temple for millennia means her cravings for sacrifices have become unbearably agonizing.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:Edax considers her eternal imprisonment a grave injustice for a mortal like the Dreamer to correct, but she herself assimilates all she consumes, and has even kept one cephalopod alien survivor alive inside her belly for countless years, just so she wouldn't be lonely.]]
* JerkassGods: [[spoiler:Mortals exist for one reason alone -- to be eaten, and sate her never-ending hunger.]]
* KrakenAndLeviathan: As the after credits [[spoiler: [[MonsterCompendium character model]] gallery reveals,]] she is ''utterly enormous'', and easily the largest character in the games.
* LuringInPrey: She knows what [[TheChessmaster makes mortals/meals tick]]. The goddess tempted many cephalopods into her maw by [[ThereIsAGod having them worship her as a goddess]], by [[EldritchOceanAbyss fear]] or [[KeeperOfForbiddenKnowledge various promises]]. With the Dreamer, she entices them easily with [[CuriosityIsACrapshoot curiosity alone]].
* OurGodsAreDifferent: For the {{Cthulhumanoid}} race, Edax is ''[[CrystalDragonJesus their version]]'' of '''Cthulhu''', and her presence alone drives them mad.
* ThePunishment: For her crimes in devouring fathomless races and cities without mercy, the cephalopods not only sealed the evil goddess away in an eternal prison, but somehow ''[[{{Unperson}} stripped her of her very name]]''. It can only be written down, but never be spoken aloud by anyone, not even by her fellow deity and former friend Eden.
* PlanetEater: She consumes the entire alien cephalopod world after being freed of her prison by the Dreamer.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:Edax was imprisoned forever for consuming an untold number of peoples and civilizations. Though she can thrash about and cause the ruined temple, to crumble further into decay, she cannot free herself without outside help in the form of the Dreamer.]]
* ThisIsMyHuman: She becomes ''very possessive'' over the Dreamer after they free her, possibly [[YouWillBeSpared as a reward]] for doing so. Edax intends to keep them [[FateWorseThanDeath for all time inside her stomach]] along with Kel'Dras, [[FoodComa but unbeknownst]] to the ocean goddess, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere the Dreamer escapes]].
* ThreateningShark: Overlapping with SeaMonster, as she has a long illicium sprouting from the middle of her head, which is associated with anglerfish, and according to Kel'Dras, she's equal parts MonsterWhale too.
* TimeAbyss: There's no telling how old she and Eden are, as both were ancient when the [[{{Precursors}} cephalopod race]] were young.
* YouWillBeSpared: Feeling eternally indebted to the Dreamer, whom she calls her disciple, Edax swallows them up whole and unharmed before the crushing ocean depths destroy their [[HigherTechSpecies alien diving suit]]. It's only thanks to the Dream Shard that they're able to escape her clutches at all.

* DontWakeTheSleeper: He's terrified of upsetting [[spoiler:Edax, his captor, home, and host, and [[CivilizationDestroyer for good reason]]. Kel'Dras begs the Dreamer not to wake the evil goddess up, [[PlanetEater considering what it takes]] to send her back into any form of content slumber.]]

* HopeIsScary: In his own madness and desperation, he fooled himself into believing [[spoiler:PrisonerExchange for a day would occur once the Dreamer was consumed. Kel'Dras believed Edax would want this human disciple she acquired as her [[HumanPet new plaything]] to replace him, and allow him to enjoy the world before Edax consumed what little remains. 367* NeglectfulPrecursors: While he cannot be singled out for blame, he's nevertheless the remnant of a powerful ancient race who [[spoiler:worshipped Edax [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway over Eden]], and contributed to [[MakeMyMonsterGrow making her the apocalyptic monster god]] we see today. His people were also irresponsible to have left the keys to the deity's prison easily accessible. Even he lampshades this]].
* NeverFoundTheBody: Unlike the other three rulers of his race, his people had no idea what fate befell him when they made a monument to his memory. Little did they know, [[spoiler:Edax was truly inescapable, and swallowed him up for all eternity.]]
* PetTheDog: Zigzagged. [[spoiler:Edax keeps him alive in her infinite stomach so she'll always have someone around, even after she consumes the world. 417* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: [[spoiler:When the Dreamer reunites Dusty and Biscuit, they pass on, leaving behind the keepsake crystal shard that caused this whole mess. Both are seen in the Heaven World, where they confess that after messing up with the weather, [[NeverBeHurtAgain they kept others away]] in fear and self-loathing, even loved ones. The Dreamer saved them from themself.]]
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Tired of leading an [[spoiler:expedition across an endless sandstorm in [[ShiftingSandLand Desert World]], they opted to change the environment to suit their people better so they could build a permanent home. This transformed Desert World into Snow World, and ended up creating an apocalyptic winter that the rabbit people are barely clinging to survival in.]]
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler:The Snow/[[ShiftingSandLand Desert World]] is in a state of temporal flux due to the Dreamer's mind and psyche breaking down from the Dream Crystal being shattered. By the time they arrive in this decaying dreamscape, only the memory remains. After visiting the past, the Dreamer finds everyone, including Dusty, is either already long dead, [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse or absent]] from the wastes.]]
* GoneHorriblyRight: The nomadic rabbit folk and Dusty wanted to [[spoiler:cool down their searing hot climate by tapping into the power of mysterious [[WeatherControlMachine weather-changing monoliths]]. They succeeded, and turned the arid desert they had already adapted to into an arctic wasteland]].
* TropeyComeHome: Dusty is desperate to see their faithful dog Biscuit again, and begs the Dreamer to find them.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Unbeknownst to the Dreamer, the rabbit Dusty [[spoiler:keeps a [[CosmicKeystone shard of the Dream Crystal]] on them. Long ago, they had hoped to use its power to control the [[WeatherControlMachine ancient weather machine]] beneath the dunes. This was done with the noblest intentions, as their wandering people were tired of the unbearable desert heat, [[GoneHorriblyRight but it backfired]] and created an ''[[FromBadToWorse even worse]]'' climate for the poor rabbit race to endure than before.]]
* UnfinishedBusiness: Dusty [[spoiler:cannot pass on until they reunite with their beloved husky dog and companion, Biscuit.]]

A shivering rabbit fisherman with high spirits in the center of the [[SlippySlideyIceWorld Snow World]] ruins from ''Boundless Dreams'' determined to catch some fish.
----
* AWorldHalfFull: His dreamscape is dying from WeatherManipulation, yet Joe is happy with whatever life throws his way. As he puts it, the rabbit folk complained bitterly when things were too hot before anyway.
* FishingForSole: He hasn't had a bite for days, but doesn't give up. Survival's the name of the game.
* TheHeart: Joe really rallies the community spirit, working hard to try and keep everyone's hopes alive in the face of death from an ice age without end. If the Dreamer visits him after finding Biscuit but before travelling to the past, he's caught a big fish for everyone to eat.
* SillyRabbitCynicismIsForLosers: Putting the sheer irony of this trope aside, Joe tells the Dreamer to adapt to the cold that ails them both. He will not succumb to [[TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong any pity or doubt]] that might plague the Dreamer.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler: It's not clear if the rabbit people and Joe migrated to other lands, or all of them sadly perished in the frigid weather.]]

A bizarre race of [[StarfishAliens geometric alien beings]] found in a huge SpaceStation within the [[SpaceZone Space World]] from ''Boundless Dreams''.
----
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: One of the aliens makes it [[spoiler:to Heaven World and reaches an epiphany that it's ''because'' the universe is [[CrapsackWorld infinite, maddening and chaotic]] that everyone ''should'' find comfort, and not despair, in their [[HopeSpringsEternal hopes and dreams]].]]
* FantasticRacism: They refer to the Dreamer as nothing more than "a meatbag" who'll hopefully stay fresh for as long as possible.
* TheFatalist: All believe in the futility of their existence in the face of a vast cold uncaring cosmos.
* LackOfEmpathy: Possessing a cold machinelike intelligence, none of them are sympathetic to the Dreamer's plight when the space station's doors lock up.
* MechanicalLifeforms: Shapezoids appear to be a higher form of life, yet even they confess they pale in comparison to [[UltimateLifeForm the Eye]].
* PoweredByABlackHole: Their space station is sustained by one, which they also use as a dump for all the lost precious things they've scoured the universe for instead of returning them to their rightful owners, by order of [[JerkassGods the Eye]].
* RobotReligion: They all worship and fear the Eye, an EldritchAbomination space deity, and [[TheScottishTrope dare not speak]] its true name.
* {{Teleportation}}: The Shapezoids don't need doors, and can warp around the station with ease. Upon the Dreamer's arrival in their dreamscape, the Eye summons them all, and they leave conversations with the Dreamer to go report to it for fear of angering it otherwise.

!!The Eye
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_eye_7.png]]
An ancient cosmic horror, the Eye is an EldritchAbomination space deity residing above a vast black hole in [[SpaceZone Space World]] whom the Shapezoids all serve out of fear more than devotion or respect.
----
* HopeCrusher: The Eye taunts the Dreamer often about how pointless existence is, and the doomed path of self-destruction humanity is on.
* IKnowWhatYouFear: It will oblige the Dreamer if they ask the cosmic entity to show them visions of sights they personally find distressing or unsettling.
* JerkassGods: Unlike Althos, who is a wise and compassionate water deity, the Eye is all-knowing, apathetic, and monstrous. Instead of [[spoiler:helping the Dreamer recover the shard, they banish them into a black hole. Were it for not [[AllPowerfulBystander the Dream Catcher working behind the scenes to save them]], they would be lost forever.]]
* TheOmnipresent: One of the reasons why the Shapezoids are terrified of it is not just because it's all-knowing, but ''its presence is everywhere'' and always watching everything they do.
* PetTheDog: When the Dreamer cannot bear all the horrifying chaotic happenings in the universe, they can request to look at cute red pandas playing instead. Even so, the Eye will remark the cosmos would be a happier place if only such creatures inhabited it, [[HumansAreBastards instead of humans]].
* PunyEarthlings: It describes humans' entire existence as inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. The life, hopes, and Dream Crystal of one individual human is even more worthless.
* TimeAbyss: It declares that it had existed before the beginning of time, and will continue to exist long after the end of the universe.
* YouCantFightFate: It mocks the Dreamer's [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong quest]], saying that it is one without end, and it believes they can never restore the dreamscape or save all the forgotten dreams in the face of the impending DespairEventHorizon.

A skeletal dragon-like King sitting on a lonely throne who the Dreamer meets in the ruined foreboding [[OminousFog Fog World]] in ''Boundless Dreams''. Devoid of any passion or life, he asks the Dreamer to help retrieve his lost beating heart from his basement's [[{{Hellevator}} basement]].
----
* AffectionateNickname: He calls the Dreamer "little maestro."
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: [[spoiler: The King and Dreamer reunite in Heaven World, and he is finally at peace. At last, he understands that [[MyGreatestFailure making mistakes]] is inevitable, and [[AnAesop it's moving on past them]] that's important.]]
* BodyHorror: He has a ''gaping bleeding hole'' in his chest where his heart once was. Seeking to [[spoiler:control the Dream Shard for himself]] has not only devastated his home and subjects, but also his own body.
* ChildhoodFriends: With [[spoiler:the Hermit. Though the latter notes he was always obsessed with finding treasures and took games [[SoreLoser way too seriously]] as a child, they still cared deeply about each other.]]
* {{Dracolich}}: All that remains of his body after [[spoiler:tampering with the shard's power over and over.]]
* TheGoodKing: Formerly, despite his faults, he was never a bad ruler, and was kind to his people. That is, [[spoiler:until he came across a shard of the [[DrunkWithPower Dream Crystal]].]]
* TheHeartless: He is one in both the literal and metaphorical sense. Ghost King has lost his heart, and without it he cannot muster the will to do anything about his kingdom having become a bleak depressing limbo.
* LevelAte: [[spoiler:Candy King wanted to transform the floating forests and mountains into a candy-themed dreamscape. His transformed subjects had no complaints, but the Hermit disapproved of the plan immediately as "insane".]]
* NoNameGiven: We don't know his true name, as the Dreamer never gets to meet him before he assumes his [[spoiler:wacky "King of Candy Land" persona.]]
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: He is a humanoid wingless dragon-like being, as were the other native creatures of this fantasy dream before [[spoiler:it become LevelAte and then [[OminousFog Fog World]].]]
* StartOfDarkness: [[spoiler:Candy King came across a shard of the [[CosmicKeystone Dream Crystal]], and Sage Bernard's worst fears of the dark possibilities contained with a Dream Shard were realized in him. No good can come of a [[TragicDream dream-being asserting control or reimagining their dreamscape and its inhabitants]] without the rightful GuardianEntity Gogi and [[DreamWeaver the Dream Catcher overseeing their visions first]]. He's remade the land and people over and over so many times that when the Dreamer appears, everything has long plunged into a warped and twisted horror. He doesn't like company, but is kind at heart. His former friend and pupil, the Candy King, wanted him to oversee the further reimagining of the dreamscape as groundskeeper for his workers.]]
----
* ChildhoodFriends: He did everything together with [[spoiler: the King, even sharing hobbies. They explored everywhere looking for treasures, and were so close Grady describes them as being brothers.]]
* CrustyCaretaker: Grady in the present Fog World is the groundskeeper for the Helmsfield Manor, a ruined estate where only the spirits of the dead now dwell. He digs the graves for all the subjects [[spoiler:King Candy killed through his foolish reign, and has developed a bad smoking habit too. Judging by his refusal to quit [[IncurableCoughOfDeath and terrible cough]], he won't be long [[DigYourOwnGrave in joining them]].]]
* DragonHoard: He loved finding and collecting treasures with his friend [[spoiler: the King when they were little, but it was only a pastime for Grady, whereas his royal friend took it far too seriously.]]
* GaiasLament: He could only watch with dismay as his old friend [[spoiler:the King strayed further from sanity and cut down all the trees to build his candy paradise.]]
* TheHermit: Despite appearing to be a GrumpyOldMan, he's friendly and always willing to help another in need. [[spoiler:His isolation from the rest of the dreamscape inhabitants is self-imposed, as they don't understand natural beauty, and he disapproves of the random LevelAte change.]]
* MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold: He appears to be a CynicalMentor and the transformed denizens of Candy World are scared of him, but he's actually a kindly dragon who cares about the land and its people more than they do themselves.

----
* BodyHorror: He's been corrupted by the nightmares that have ravaged the dreamscape, leaving nothing but scar tissue under his hood, yet his mind and purpose remain intact.
* ButThouMust: Choosing to stay in [[ToHellAndBack Hell]] instead of [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence ascending]] means the Dreamer will only prolong everyone's suffering, prompting the Gatekeeper to ask again, as the Dreamer doesn't belong in Hell.
