As much as Curious Gorge seeks to control his Inner Beast, he continuously loses control of it throughout the questline, to the point that it's almost OnceAnEpisode where he loses it. That being said, Gorge admits that this is a failing on his part, and seeks to improve himself so that he stops losing control at the drop of a hat.[[invoked]]

* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Curious Gorge is proud of the Warrior way, even though it has been shunned by the populous some time back.

* ThePaladin: Sort of. She's not the Paladin job trainer, but she combines sword-and-shield combat with white magic when she fights alongside you as an NPC.

* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Fitting a skilled gladiator and duelist, Aldis carries a buckler in addition to his sword.

* ThePaladin: Jenlyns leads and trains the Paladins of the Sultansworn. They are mostly physical fighters but do also use some form of holy magic for healing and damaging.

* ThisCannotBe: After being defeated during his above mentioned HazyFeelTurn, he can't believe he, who has served in the Sultansworn for years, was bested by his junior.

* WideEyedIdealist: Deconstructed. His absolute faith and trust his fellow Sultansworn makes it easy for the Monetarists to control and manipulate him.

* {{Retcon}}: The lore initially stated that Widargelt was raised and trained by Monks in a remote temple out of Theodoric's reach instead of the order's main temple, but in ''Stormblood'' he remembers training at the Temple of the Fist despite it being sacked by Mad King 25 years ago. This would've made him 1 year old at the time with his previous official age of 26, implying his age was changed to be roughly 10 years older in ''Stormblood''.

* WritersCannotDoMath: Widargelt's official age is listed as 26 in the first Encyclopedia, while the Temple of the Fist was sacked by King Theodoric 25 years ago, making him only 1 year old at the time. Despite this, in ''Stormblood'' he has memories of training with the monks at the temple and remembers the sacking, which would have been impossible with timeline. It is possible he was aged up roughly 10 years in ''Stormblood'' as his childhood friend Adri from the Fist of Rhalgr is stated to be 38 in the second Encyclopedia.

Said matter is the retrieval of an Ishgardian treasure, and basis of the Azure Dragoon's power, the Dragon's Eye, which has been stolen by his former student, adopted son, and successor, Estinien, who has gone rogue. To prevent a panic from breaking out, Alberic wants to try and get Estinien to come back before he's regarded as a criminal.

* JoustingLance: Alberic carries an ordinary knightly lance after his retirement as a dragoon.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:Failed to save Estinien's home village some years ago from the dragons. During his battle with Nidhogg, Alberic was almost enthralled by the dragon. Purging himself of the Dragon's Eye's power to prevent this, he drove Nidhogg back, but it was all he could do to save Estinien as the horde of dragons accompanying Nidhogg laid waste to Ferndale just to spite him.]]
* OldSoldier: Though Alberic is only 44, he is treated like an old knight, being older and more experienced than most of the other dragoons, with Estinien even calling him an old man.

* HotBlooded: His view of bravery is to just charge in headlong and not care about if you die.
* IgnoredEpiphany: Ywain sets up a scenario to teach Foulques and Warrior the true meaning of courage, with the Warrior stepping in to defend the fallen Foulques from their adversary. Despite being humiliated and humbled by the experience, Foulques simply falls deeper into madness and goes back to his previous methods, only ''worse''.

* ColdBloodedTorture: Radovan suffers shocks that leave him unable to fight due to the torture he recieved at the hands of the Garleans, who according to him did it whenever it pleased them, [[KickTheDog and please them it did]].

* CareerEndingInjury: Perhaps not ''ending'', but she suffered an injury during the voyage to Eorzea that currently prevents her from dancing, which is why she reaches out to the Warrior of Light to learn Dancing and join their troupe.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he comes off as prickly and superior and bickers with Hilda, when push comes to shove [[spoiler:and Melisie tries to get him to protect her, he shuts her down by ascribing their shared noble status to "an accident of birth", stating that he welcomes his new comrades-in-arms in the watch.]]
