* AmbiguousDisorder: At first he's portrayed that way, then he's toned down to being ''just'' socially awkward as part of his inner conflict, and that's resolved by the end of the series.

* WidowWoman: She widowed when her husband and Harrold's father -- also a doctor at Everwood -- died. [[spoiler:She becomes a widow again when Irv dies in the penultimate episode. She is devastated and misses him terribly, but has troubles to owning to her feelings.]]

* {{Adorkable}}: Especially in the early third season, fitting the bill perfectly. Not so much on season four although it does come up sometimes.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Averted. While she's basically filling the gap left by Laynie's off-screen departure, a lot more focus is given to her and there's CharacterDevelopment to the point that on Season 4 she's virtually got as much screen time as any starring character except for Andy, Ephram and Amy, which also makes her an EnsembleDarkhorse.

* JerkassHasAPoint: When he was not the nicest guy at the beginning of the series, he wasn't far off when he told Ephram that his sister was only using him to get his father to operate on Colin. That is partly proven true.

* AnnoyingLaugh: Lampshaded when Dr. Abbott gets annoyed at his laugh.

* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Amy is very pretty with blond long hair. She's very friendly and a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter and girlfriend.

* TheUnfavourite: Feels like that at the end of the third season and there's a whole episode devoted to it. She was trying hard to get Andy's attention but all he was concerned about was repairing his relationship with Ephram.

* BrokenAce / StepfordSmiler: First comes in as a buff, smiling med school student who seems to outclass the confused Ephram and the still-struggling Bright. [[spoiler:But med school proves to be too much for him, his grades plummet, he's expelled for cheating and tries to kill himself. His mother and Ephram feel guilty for not realizing he wasn't as happy as he let on.]]

* Adorkable: Especially in the early third season, fitting the bill perfectly. Not so much on season four although it does come up sometimes.

* InsecureLoveInterest / ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Bright's. This is actually deconstructed in a few episodes, where her constant fear and worry that someone like Bright could never really love her and want to be with her leads to them arguing about it more than once, especially when Bright finds out Hannah's been lying about liking the frat parties he takes her to.

** She's also a bit of a GenderFlip version of Ephram: social outcast (at first), love interest of one of the Abbott siblings, best friend of the other Abbott sibling, strained relationship with a parent, losing the other parent whilst still a teenager, similar sense of humour (as pointed out by both aforementioned Abbott siblings).

* BreakTheHaughty: A subtle example. He starts out season 1 as a JerkJock who's a shoo-in for a football scholarship, but when Colin goes in for his first surgery he's riddled with guilt at remembering ''he'' was the one driving when the accident happened, and the business with Colin slowly gets worse and worse once he wakes up and clearly isn't the best friend Bright remembers. In season 2 he's kicked off the football team for failing a class and is still dealing with the blow Colin's death dealt him. In season 3, he goes through something of an identity crisis when he doesn't get into college, and his womanizing ways come back to bite him in the butt. (See HandsomeLech below) Finally, in season 4 he messes up ''badly'' in his relationship with Hannah and is unable to even begin to mend their friendship until one episode before the GrandFinale.

* BreakTheHaughty: A subtle example. He starts out season 1 as a JerkJock who's a shoo-in for a football scholarship, but the situation with Colin slowly begins to break him, and in season 2 he's kicked off the football team for failing a class. In season 3, he goes through something of an identity crisis when he doesn't get into college, and his womanizing ways come back to bite him in the butt. (See HandsomeLech below)

* HeroicBSOD: Spends half of season 2 in a deep pit of depression and apathy after [[spoiler:the death of her boyfriend Colin Hart]]. She gets better, though.

* JerkJock: In the first half of the first season. He plays football and is the school star.

* InsecureLoveInterest / ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Bright's. This is actually deconstructed in a few episodes, where her constant fear and worry that someone like Bright could never really love her and want to be with her. This leads to them arguing about it more than once, especially when Bright finds out Hannah's been lying about liking the frat parties he takes her to.

* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: He swallows some pills and guys find him on the floor in the bathroom. He survives. The reason for his suicide was that he couldn't cope with the workload of studying the medicine and was fired because he cheated on a test.]]
