While she usually uses this just to achieve FasterThanLightTravel during her LimitBreak, she can also set it to repeat an event infinitely. She stabs him straight through the heart, and sets that action to repeat, causing him to die almost instantly every single time he revives as his heart tears open once more. After a few minutes of that, he's had enough and breaks the cycle.]]

* StarterVillain: As the local shogun where Pirilika initially lands, he is the first "real" boss the protagonists face. In typical ''Disgaea'' fashion, he joins the party after his defeat.

He also knows significantly more about what's going on in Hinomoto, and is the one who gleefully informs Yeyasu that he [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness isn't useful to them anymore]].

* EvilMatriarch: One of the first things she says after being introduced is that she wouldn't even hesitate to kill her own child,[[spoiler:Pirilika]], if they opposed her. Considering she actively commits genocide on the people of Hinomoto to produce living weapons, the threat is quite convincing. [[spoiler:Ultimately she does hesitate to kill Pirilika, which leads to her own death, and had been planning her own death and the downfall of Mugai at the same time.]]

* InformedAbility": His Character profile in the Data Shop notes him to have a strength rivaling thousands, and was Mugai's favorite disciple. Sadly the player never gets to see any of this action, as ButtMonkey and RunningGag demonstrate.

* TheNotLoveInterest: Pirilika comes off as being a ManicPixieDreamGirl who breaks Fuji out of his shell, [[spoiler: [[LikeParentLikeSpouse and even resembles his dead mother physically and in personality]]]], and during DLC events [[ShipperOnDeck the characters from older games actively expect or even encourage the two to get together]]. The two retain a professional and friendly relationship throughout the entire game, and never actually view each other romantically.

* IAmNotLeftHanded: Her unique skill Higan-Ryu Retsugou[[labelnote:*]] Literally "Higan Style Violent Roaring", though the second part has the added benefit of sounding like "[[BringIt Let's Go]]".[[/labelnote]]temporarily amplifies her stats to offset her Evility and allows the use of Sword skills. [[spoiler: She stops holding back for real halfway through Chapter 12. The fight in question strongly encourages using only her and is a complete CurbStompBattle in her favor, as she starts it able to immediately make use of her Infernal Treasure, allowing her to make use of Higan-Ryu Retsugou twice on the way over to the boss before making use of [[LimitBreak Higan-Ryu Ougi: Retsukazetsushou]] to one shot him.]]

* PaletteSwap: While this is standard fare for the series to do so with generic units, both when they rank up and with special ones that see a role in the story, it rarely gets applied to former major characters. Here, there's a fella called Benikage, who [[DoNotCallMePaul abandoned his old name]] and prefers to be called Crimson Dark, who happens to resemble [[VideoGame/Disgaea5AllianceOfVengeance Void Dark]] a great deal, albeit [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver in red and black]]. [[spoiler: Fuji calls him out on it, telling him that even if he is a fan of that legendary Overlord he shouldn't be trying to imitate him.]]

* FreudianExcuse: Actually has one, which Pirilika accidentally gets right. [[spoiler: He had a past as a freak show attraction, but Mugai freed him, earning the moth's UndyingLoyalty.]]

* ClashingCousins: He's Yeyasu's elder cousin and has completely sided with Demmodore Opener, even going so far as to threaten the life of Yeyasu's [[spoiler: little brother]] in order to force him to fall in line.
* IHaveYourWife: After Yeyasu firmly sides with Fuji and Pirilika, Paripiyasu threatens [[spoiler: his little brother Ikki's life]] in order to get him to betray them.
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:He blames himself for Gachiyasu death and Ikki's abduction (and eventual Infernal Treasure conversion) and believes that it's impossible for him to fix these mistakes.]]

* BigBadFriend: She's Ceefore's best friend and [[spoiler: attacked her, causing her amnesia, for trying to stop the creation of Infernal Treasures after finding out they used demon souls to make them. She quickly sells out Celestia to Opener, becoming the Soul Flow Magistrate responsible for expediting Canonline's collection of souls in hopes that she'll have a breakthrough and learn how to use angel souls as well.]]

* HistoricalHeroUpgrade: Happens to him InUniverse, with Fuji complaining that people who view his father as some sort of saint who tried to save Hinomoto are fools who never met the man. In reality he was a man quite frustrated with the Netherworld Cluster's obsession with Bushido, [[VirtueIsWeakness viewing it as a massive weakness]], and even [[spoiler: subjected Fuji to the Killing Humanity curse in order to make him "strong"]].
* TheManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler: He's the true instigator for the events of the game, trying to stomp out honor and empathy from the Neverworld Cluster through possessing Opener.]]

* ButtMonkey: After his brief bit of being hyped up in Chapter 4, the rest of the game makes it very clear he exists only to suffer one humiliation after the next and never see a proper battle. By the time the story wraps up he gets [[spoiler:[[AssShove encountered by Higan Zesshousai]], [[DynamicEntry blown up by Ao making an entrance twice]], and [[InTheBack then shot in the back with a cannon]] by Ten Buyer when he finally tries to help Fuji]]. The post game story has him [[spoiler:get taken out by Fuji at the start of the scene due to being suspected of kidnapping Ao, leaving him unable to participate in the WolfPackBoss fight against all remaining enemy Magistrates]].

The resemblance is enough for Mugai to have a minor FreakOut when she just calmly tries to talk him down instead of kill him and mistakes her for his dead wife]].

Then Pirilika is forced to give a speech about how she now realizes that to follow Bushido is to go to your death and his was an amazing and courageous one worthy of praise anyway, and she lashes out once more, complaining about how killing yourself isn't a good thing and if that's what Bushido really means she'll kill it. This allows her to tap into the Zenryou Yoichi's power and revive him... By threatening to spend the 100,000,000 Hell she owes him on a bunch of ukiyo-e.]]

Even healing him audibly causes him pain, [[GameplayAndStorySegregation though for gameplay reasons it still does heal him]]. [[spoiler:Unlike Laharl, his condition is quite serious. It's not an allergy like he claims, he's cursed with "Killing Humanity" so that these things quite literally will kill him if left unchecked and acts like a jerk to everyone specifically to keep living long enough to kill Opener.]]

* HeelFaceDoorSlam: The second she so much as hesitates to kill Pirilika and consider her words instead, [[spoiler:the Killing Humanity curse begins to take its toll on her. Opener doesn't even wait for it to do the job, and kills her from behind]].

* GeniusLoci: [[spoiler:He's a massive living weapon fused to the Ooedo Castle, kept hidden by his illusions. When he reveals himself, the main body is a massive eye on top of the castle with tentacles running down over the rest of if. He's not Joeh Dou, he's Jouedo. ([[MeaningfulName The Top of Edo]]).]]

* TooDumbToLive: Ao effortlessly blew up Ooedo Castle at the beginning of the story. Openly announcing that you're keeping her "hostage" inside the newly rebuilt castle is not the wisest of ideas. [[spoiler:Especially not when said castle is your own body. Cue Fuji yelling at Ao to get outside right now, and Joeh [[YourHeadASplode violently exploding]].]]

* EvilPlan: [[spoiler:Step 1: "Die" fighting Opener. Step 2: Possess Opener, turn him into Hinomoto's conqueror. Step 3: "Come back from the dead" and defeat Opener. Step 4: Announce the intent to broadcast Opener's execution to all of Hinomoto. Step 5: Use the broadcast to inflict the Killing Humanity curse on Hinomoto, [[DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans ensuring everyone becomes ruthless monsters, as he feels demons should be, or dies off, as he feels people who have any shred of decency should]].]]

* HalfHumanHybrid: She's similar to [[VideoGame/Disgaea3AbsenceOfJustice Rutile]] in that she's not fully demon. In her case, however, her mother is human while her father is a demon. [[spoiler: They're Canonline and Opener.]]

After this revelation she can change between forms at the Dark Assembly.]]

* CrutchCharacter: Higan joins up at level 40 when you're intended to be around level 20, with an S rank and 50 levels in Sword Mastery and a B rank with 20 levels in Spear Mastery giving her a wide variety of skills at her disposal and a decent statistical advantage over your other characters. While nothing's stopping a player from raising her up just as much, she's a bit hindered by her Evility, which reduces her stats by 25% and locks her out of using Swords, meaning any character that grinds a bit in the Item World to catch up to her in levels is likely to outclass her. [[spoiler: Toward the end of the game she drops this Evility in favor of another that instead cuts damage from Monster type units in half, while also gaining a second that adds an additional 2 spaces to her reach and 5 counter attacks while equipped with a spear.]]
* HorrifyingTheHorror: While her attempt at abusing [[spoiler: Mugai]]'s ResurrectiveImmortality to keep them trapped in an endless cycle of death ultimately failed, it was sufficient in convincing them to back off and simply send minions after the group instead while they focused on achieving their goals instead of risking a continued confrontation where she may succeed.

* ParentalSubstitute: She served as one for Fuji when he was younger, after the deaths of his parents. [[spoiler: Unknown to him is that she did not take him in on a whim as he assumed, [[HonoraryUncle she was a close personal friend of his parents]] and even trained together under the previous Zesshousai, Rekka, who also happened to be Fuji's grandmother.]]

* ReforgedIntoAMinion: Ceefore quickly notes that he seems to have [[MindHive a mass of souls in him]], rather than just one. It is later revealed that this is due to how Canonline created him, [[PoweredByAForsakenChild forcing countless souls into a single body to produce a powerful living weapon]]. [[spoiler: The core soul is that of Ikki, Yeyasu's younger brother.]]

* OrcusOnHisThrone: Opener doesn't actually bother to do much of anything after conquering Hinomoto and didn't even seem to have a plan beyond taking over and making it a law that everyone must make everyone else miserable, leaving it to his Magistrates to actually manage the various Netherworlds. [[spoiler: This is because Mugai needs a rebellion to occur to help sell his story of coming back from the dead for his plan to work out. Actively ending any real opposition, rather than leaving it to a relatively incompetent QuirkyMinibossSquad, would not allow him to inflict the Killing Humanity curse on all of Hinomoto.]]
* PowerFist: His Infernal Treasure is the Zesshousai Mugai, [[VillainRespect named in honor of the hero himself]], and is capable of causing complete helplessness in anyone it touches. [[spoiler: It is in fact Mugai himself, and [[DemonicPossession is actually the one in control of Opener's body]].]]

* BeyondRedemption: Faced with any other horrible person, Pirilika can find some reason that they ended up that way and hold hope for them. She sees nothing but pure evil looking at Canonline, and outright declares her intent to kill the woman. [[spoiler: Tragically, Canonline is the one person who does actually have a reason for her actions. Pirilika just doesn't learn of it until she's [[HeelFaceDoorSlam beyond redemption for a completely different reason]].]]
