* SmugSnake: His entire personality can be described as this. He's so smug that one of his face portraits goes so OffModel that it's basically a scribble. He's also self-admittedly reliant on Noelle's help to be as smart as he is.

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: Downplayed. Those who care about politics in Hometown really like her, but plenty of other people don't really care, since it's a relatively slow and small town where not much happens. It's also noted that many people are not a fan of her harsh personality but because she's a very hard worker who does a great job at running the town, she has run unopposed for years.

** To [[TheAce Asriel]] in everything; Asriel is smart enough to have various medals in his room, good enough at gaming to face Kris with a knock-off controller, volunteering, and [[OneHundredPercentAdorationRating not even a single person in Hometown dislikes him]].

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: He's famous for his work as a historian and fantasy writer, recognized far and wide according to Father Alvin, and continued receiving condolences by letter long after his passing.

* InsufferableImbecile: Even when he comes to terms with his InferioritySuperiorityComplex and embraces his own stupidity, it doesn't diminish his arrogance in the least. He isntead starts bragging about how dumb he is, and thus how much better of a person he is, which is ComicallyMissingThePoint of Noelle's attempts to convince Berdly to [[BeYourself be himself]].

** With the release of Chapter 2, the game's Steam page description now mentions Papyrus (by name) and that he's busy, the latter of which is also said by Sans about his little brother within Chapter 2 itself.

* BigBrotherInstinct: A possible explanation as to why he's reluctant to have Kris meet with his little brother Papyrus, even though confessing the latter desperately needs friends. By [[{{VideoGame/Undertale}} greeting him as an old friend]] you've just [[MediumAwareness raised a huge red flag]] inside his head. He also has this response [[DevelopersForesight if he was never talked to in Chapter 1 but is still asked about Papyrus in Chapter 2]] as you shouldn't know he has a brother.

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: In Chapter 2 (which takes place a day after Chapter 1, but released 2 years 11 months later), if Sans is asked about his plan to introduce Papyrus to Kris from the previous chapter, he says that the plan will have to wait, "maybe a day, maybe another 2 years. who's keeping track at this point?"
* LittleBigBrother: He mentions having Kris meet his "little brother," making him this to Papyrus.

** With the release of Chapter 2, the game's Steam page description now mentions that Papyrus is busy, the same thing Sans says about his brother within the chapter itself.

* TheGhost: No pun intended. In Chapter 1, they're not seen in person, but their actions (closing the blinds without a word and just hoping Kris goes away) and the flavor text of "aren't really feeling it right now" strongly hint that it is indeed Napstablook. You can eventually see them in person by entering the police station in the epilogue of Chapter 2.

A ghost who lives with Napstablook, but never leaves their house. In ''Undertale'', they're known as Mettaton.

* ForWantOfANail: As Alphys is just a high school teacher in this incarnation instead of an accomplished engineer, she lacks the skills that would have built their confidence-boosting robot body. Thus, they remain the morose homebody they were alluded to have once been in ''Undertale''.

* NoNameGiven: They only describe themselves as "a nobody".

* OneHundredPercentAdorationRating: People have nothing but nice things to say about him, and keep asking Kris when Asriel is coming to visit from his college. The only person who seems to mildly dislike him is Catty's dad, because Asriel doesn't like his wife's cooking.

* ContinuityNod: In Kris's specially designed cell in Queen's castle, you can spot two tiny Toriels playing the piano, both wearing the original purple robe she sported back in ''Undertale''.

* TheMaidenNameDebate: She keeps Asgore's last name despite being separated from him. If you call home with Kris's cellphone in the epilogue of Chapter 1, Toriel will answer the phone with "The Dreemurr residence," despite Asgore no longer living there. This contrasts her Undertale counterpart, where she's normally ashamed of the name.

* PushoverParents: Downplayed, but her punishments towards Kris's misdeeds tend to be rather light. In Chapter 1, she simply sends Kris to bed early after the latter comes home late from school without so much as calling. In Chapter 2, she doesn't even so much as scold them when it's revealed that they ate all the pie she made, despite being told not to. Later in the chapter, she doesn't seem to be worried about Kris's... dissociative problems, only telling Susie that "[they do] this sometimes".

Kris's older brother who's away at college, but is coming home to visit soon.

* TheAce: His half of his and Kris's shared bedroom is littered with sports trophies and achievement certificates. His old jersey is the only thing left in his clothes drawer. He was also a prominent member of the local church choir, to the point where Father Alvin says you can actually hear the hole where his voice used to be when they sing now.

* ParentalFavoritism: It's subtly implied that he's the favored child of at least Toriel's between him and Kris. His side of their bedroom is adorned with all sorts of decorations and has a computer, while Kris's only has a wagon and a birdcage, and hidden away under Asriel's bed is a game console with one proper controller and a knock-off one, though he did use the knock-off himself to be nice to his sibling.

* RightForTheWrongReasons: Catti mentions to Kris that she senses Noelle slipping into the darkness, and that Kris needs to do what they can to protect her since they too "walk among the dark". Of course, she's talking about Noelle harboring a crush on [[TheBully Susie]] and hopes Kris's experience with Susie should help with protecting her from getting bullied, but her description also fits the hidden Weird Route of Chapter 2 and what it entails for Noelle and Kris.

One of the teachers at Kris's school... at least, she tries to be.

* CoolBigBro: Downplayed, but some of his dialogue vaguely implies he had moments where he tried to be one toward Kris, if only to try to fill the void in Kris's life left by Asriel's absence.

* GoodParents: She dotes on Kris, letting them sleep in, and only punishes them with an early bedtime for staying at school too late with a friend.

* DefinitelyJustACold: He puts on a brave face when talking to Noelle and Kris, but certain dialogue cues strongly hint that whatever he's been hospitalized for is [[IncurableCoughOfDeath terminal.]]

* GayBravado: If you inspect the bouquet of roses, he jokes that Asgore was trying to go for something Literature/BeautyAndTheBeast themed when he points out that they're both beasts. Inspecting it again has him say that he should have just asked him out to prom outright. It's hard to say if it's this trope or if he's seriously flirting with him, but since he has a wife and considers Asgore a friend, it's most likely the former.

* OpenMindedParents: He's fully aware of Noelle having a lesbian crush on Susie, and he all but [[ShipperOnDeck encourages it]]. He even tries to enable Susie into reciprocating by having a one-on-one conversation with her where he tells her all of Noelle's personal interests.

* CloudCuckoolander: Her speech patterns and behaviors are just as off-the-wall as ever. Her partner in class is an [[CompanionCube egg]], and she spends her study time looking at pictures of cute boys.

* CloudCuckoolander: All of them (besides Pizzapants) are a bit unhinged to say the least. The Warrior in particular keeps constantly shouting war chants at work, reducing the restaurant's success as a result.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: It's implied that the "nobody" drew up a design for their dream body, which ended up forgotten in the computer lab and appeared in the Dark World. This body is all but said to be Mettaton NEO, and it's the object of Spamton's desires. On the normal route, Spamton will try to murder Kris for their SOUL after getting NEO, while on the Weird route, he'll actively encourage Noelle’s rampage and unlock her strongest attack, exploiting the chaos to conquer Queen's mansion and take NEO for himself. Either way, this "nobody" can cause a whole ''slew'' of problems without ever knowing about it.

* {{Jerkass}}: Smug, condescending, and takes advantage of Noelle's kindness to walk all over her. Even after he joins the good guys, he's still sort of a dick, though [[BreakTheHaughty his ego takes a real bruising]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Underneath the insufferable ego masking his inferiority complex lies a a teenaged boy who sincerely cares about his friend Noelle and gradually, if only slightly, warms up to the heroes after opening up about why he is the way he is. In the Weird Route, he stops acting like an egomaniac and acts immensely concerned for Noelle’s safety when he notices she doesn’t recognize him while acting strangely distant and, while he has no idea what’s going on, seems to realize Kris is acting as a negative and toxic influence around her, sporting a serious expression on his face when he fights Kris instead of his usual cocky smirk, focusing his attacks exclusively on Kris and taking the fight deadly seriously. Even before his HeelFaceTurn, Queen will note there's nothing really wrong with him, he's just annoying.

* OffModel: His face sprite expressions get more contorted and stretchy the more smug and egotistical he becomes.

* CovertPervert: Implied; Kris finds one of Asriel's library books, on How to Draw Dragons. The cover is described as having a scantily-clad character on it, and Kris comments that their brother probably won't return it. Later, if you visit Asriel's room in Queen's prison (presumably furnished according to [[TheInternetIsForPorn his search history]], like everyone else's) Kris's will only look in with their eyes closed, and if you inspect it with Susie ([[CartoonCreature apparently]] a dragon, according to the Mane Axe) back in your party, something in there outrages her and makes her comment that Kris had better hope she never meets him.

* AmbiguouslyBi: For the Undertale universe, [[https://undertale.com/alarmclock/asgore/ his monologue from the official Alarm Clock app page]] has pretty strong romantic undertones for Rudy. In ''Deltarune'', Rudy speaks highly of Asgore, and in Chapter 2, he reveals Asgore has been giving him flowers that Susie assumes his wife must be giving him. He's still interested in Toriel, however.

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Despite being more than willing to do her bidding than Noelle, Queen can't stand him, even when he sings her praises. She constantly tries to ditch or get rid of him, and his smug, condescending attitude is Played for Laughs when it annoys Queen to no end. Also downplayed in regards to Susie and possibly Noelle: they tolerate him enough (Noelle actually considers him a friend) but they sometimes find him annoying and like each other much more than they like him (while Berdly develops a crush on Susie and it’s possible he had one on Noelle too, even if he claims he just pretended to reciprocate her supposed feelings towards him).

* AllJustADream: At the end of Chapter 2, Berdly is convinced that his adventure in just a dream.

** To Kris in gaming, considering he never brags about being a better gamer to Kris despite his smug attitude, and one of his check info state he gets mad at Kris when he plays games together with them.
** To [[TheAce Asriel]] in everything, Asriel is smart enough to have various medals in his room, good enough at gaming to face Kris with a knock-off controller, volunteering, and [[OneHundredPercentAdorationRating not even a single person in the hometown dislike him]].
* AmazonChaser: He eventually develops a crush on Susie. When Noelle finds out, she tries to strangle him.

* BladeOnAStick: His weapon in the Dark World is a halberd formed of green energy with a bird face on it. Unlike Susie however, he mainly uses it as a focus for his wind magic.

* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: Almost literally. In the fight against Queen where she has him ReforgedIntoAMinion, if you don't loosen the cable enough (or defeated him with violence in the previous two encounters before this), he'll rip it off by himself at the end through sheer HeroicWillpower, at the cost of electrocuting his right arm. This carries over into the Light World; although the burns aren't there, his arm will be paralyzed.

** During the attempt to rescue her, he feels the need to apologize to Noelle--not just because of how rude he's been, but because he believes the only reason she helps him so much is because ''she has a crush on him'', and now needs to let her down for leading her on. Then he braces for her reaction to what he says next... because she shouldn't be jealous since ''he'' now has a crush on Susie. Noelle freaks out [[EnragedByIdiocy for different reasons]].

* EveryoneHasStandards: Even though he doesn't exactly treat Noelle very well, Berdly drops his smug attitude and express outright concern for Noelle's wellbeing upon noticing how [[TheCorruptor Kris]] has been treating her on the Weird route. Should Kris persist and order Noelle to "proceed", Berdly will then go to attack Kris, and Kris only, to try and break Noelle free from their spell.

* EvilCounterpart: Berdly can be considered this to Lancer: both are silly characters who are TheHeavy to their respective chapters antagonists (who both use them to threaten the heroes during their boss fights), are far [[KnowNothingKnowItAll less intelligent]] than they want to show, depend on a far more competent female character on their respective fields (Susie for Lancer and Noelle for Berdly) and [[BigDamnHeroes help the heroes]] [[HeelFaceTurn at the last second]] during the final boss battle. However, while Lancer actually was a FriendlyEnemy and helped Susie having a HeelRealization, Berdly, despite his silliness, is a serious antagonist during physical battles and has to be given a lesson by Kris.

* FeetOfClay: For all his talk of being smarter than everyone else and acting like an InsufferableGenius, he's not really that smart. Kris solves puzzles that he struggled with and when Susie of all people gets an idea that allows Kris to solve the last puzzle Berdly is present for, he finally breaks down and admits that Noelle was always the smart one.

* FlunkyBoss: {{Downplayed}}. He summons a pair of Werewires to help him in his second fight but doesn't summon more when they are defeated, insisting that the original ones will come back ([[InUniverseFactoidFailure even though sparing them frees them from their control]]).
* ForgottenFallenFriend: While "friend" may be a bit of a stretch, nobody seems to be especially concerned that Berdly could very well be dead in the Weird route, Susie not questioning why he's the only one who never woke up from their shared experience. Noelle, though, is clearly in denial and there's a good chance Kris realized Berdly died and [[DisposingOfABody stuffed him in the closet]] while "taking care" of the computer room's contents.

** For as much of a blowhard Berdly can be, he's genuinely courageous. In particular on the Weird Route, he refuses to back down and flee even when something is disturbingly wrong with Kris and Noelle. On the regular route, he also manages to scare Queen off with the threat of a four-on-one fight even though he can barely stand and all Queen had to do was call his bluff. Despite still being drained, he also rushes to round up all the Darkners the heroes befriended to help them against Giga Queen.
** There's also a few hints that he's more self-aware than he seems. In particular, he completely drops the LargeHam act on the Weird Route - and if you abort the route during the conversation immediately before fighting him, he asks himself what he was worrying about, since Kris is his friend, right before resuming his hammy act and dramatically challenging them to a fight, making it clear that his normal behavior isn't serious.
